I dont buy a sonic game to play a DMC clone, A treasure hunting stage or a lame on rails shooter

sonic team nailed the speed stages in these 3 games but they put in boring characters as a cheap way to extend the playtime

I don't get why people hate Raiden in MGS2. Afaik, he plays almost identically to Snake, so the gameplay isn't even affected. Same thing with the Arbiter in Halo 2.

Nero's gameplay is super fun. I was bummed when I had to play as Dante in the back half of 4.

DMC5 made me love Nero, and I hope the series continues with him as the protagonist.

Mia in Resident Evil 7.
The boat section with her already kind of sucked as is, but then they decided lets make the video tape section forced (unlike the previous 3, which you can skip on repeated playthroughs, one of which already had you playing as Mia) as well basically making you play this section twice every playthrough.

Viola sucked so much in Bayonetta 3 they released a patch to buff the shit out of her in hopes people would like her more.

Also the second Atreus segment might have been the most bored I've ever been in a game, or at least top 5.

Hot take and I love both games, but AK's batmobile handled better than Mad Max's rides. I really enjoyed driving in both though. Love the destruction and physics stuff in AK.

I didn't mind playing as Atreus in GoW Ragnarok, because they at least gave him enough of a move-set that it didn't feel like a drag, more of a palette cleanser from the main game.

Hated the MJ sections in Spider-man 1-2 though, because she was doing basic barebones stealth in 1, and in 2 they give her a takedown animation, a stick to wall finisher, and boring gunplay with her sonic taser thing. They wasted Black Cat in a scripted section where you fight with her, but I'd rather be another superhero in a superhero game than some normie who does bad vanilla game mechanics.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is top of the list for me. You play most of the game with a side character.

Getting excited after playing the demo/opening as Solid Snake then handed over to Raiden.

That’s exactly what I thought as soon as I read the title. Back in 2001, I was playing MGS2, expecting the game to switch back to Snake at any moment. But as I kept progressing and getting things done, the cold shower hit—I started realizing Raiden was gonna be the guy till the end.

Playing as Raiden in MGS2 is certainly up there. But the the sheer level of stupidity of Insomniac to not only ignore complaints of MJ segments in Spider-Man 1, but to make even worse ones in Spider-man 2 is mind boggling. Playing as Miles sucks too but more so due how bad his story segments were not his abilities as a spider man.

Now I'm currently playing god of war Ragnarok and oh boy.
Not only did they take the worse thing from the first game the annoying brat but now forced you to play as him.
The first section wasn't overly long.

But the second time, I kept thinking when's it going to end and it's 3 hours long. What were they smoking? This game went from great to nearly awful for me. I have no desire to play as this whiny little brat who's boring and just not fun to play as.
Looking at his skill tree I suspect I will have to play as him two more times.

Devs never learn.

I liked the game... I liked playing with V.

C'mon you guys have had a long time to process this lol. Snake was the side character and you played the prologue with him.

You can be as dense as you want, there were THREE mainline entries where Solid Snake was the MC before MGS2 came out. Solid Snake has been in more Mainline games and spinoffs than any other character in the franchise. HE IS the Main Character, not Big Boss, not Raiden.

Spider-Man 2's insistence on having you play as Mary Jane with her supergun is one big reason that made me skip the whole game. If they really want to have her as playable character then do it in a Mary Jane game. Mary Jane: Redheaded Redemption. I couldn't care less about controlling anything other than Spider-Man in a Spider-Man game. Just as I don't have any interest in riding a horse in a Gran Turismo game.

Neil Druckman happened. Ironically in TLOU 2 Abbey had some of the better/more memorable sections of the game like the hospital. But what they don't to my old boy Joel was criminal and Ellie should've been a side character as oposed to being main with Abbey.

For me Spider-man (OG) and GoW Ragnarok. Who the fuck wants to play as that sack of shit over Kratos and a Mary Sue.. I mean Jane. In forced stealth sections *shudders*... Absolutely killed the pace and vibe.

As someone who plays racing games more than any other genre, even I was annoyed by batmobile. Imagine wanting to play as batman sending thugs to icu in a batman game.

i skipped Ragnarok altogether because of this little shit.

If you go past the 3hr section that op mentions in his post( ironwood section), the game starts opening up and improving. Ironwood is easily the worst god of war level. Luckily the rest of the sections where you play as Atreys are way less of a drag. Plus, the ending and side content is so good that the game still remains great overall.

Sorry, mane. For me LoK was all about the gothic feel, those voice overs from the 1st game, and the ability to play a vampire. I was 15 when the first game came out, so it had a great effect on me. The graphical aesthetic of the series took a nosedive for me. Even Kain ended up looking dumb with 3 fingers as well.

I remember trailers from the time of showing snake fighting the Harriet which was obviously bullshit.

There were leaks surrounding character names in the game like Vamp and Raiden.

I always thought that solid was refering to the 3D graphics, which went from flat in metal gear to "volumed" in metal gear solid.
