All-new PlayStation Plus launches in June with three flexible membership options

Given how weak this is, that Gamepass will soon have COD, and COD has crossplay, it's likelier that I'll drop PS+ altogether than pick this up.

""When we've dabbled with backwards compatibility, I can say it is one of those features that is much requested, but not actually used much," said Ryan."

Something I said a lot of times in the past.
A nice feature to have but that most don't use.
Sadly it become console war even when having no BC affected in nothing PS4.

Gamers buys new console for new games.
That didn't change and will never change.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
the cheapest way to get GPU (ignoring the upgrade) is to get the 3month cards from retailers

sure at Black Friday when retailers put them on sale, but otherwise those cards are just paying for 3 months at full price up front

12 months Live Gold for $37 here, you can stock up on 3, use a VPN and redeem them to get 3 years of GPU via gold version for $110~ or there about.

Of course, this is with the upgrade, which R reksveks said "ignoring it" specifically. So this might not be what you guys are looking for.

Well Jim is right, PS1-2 games look bad. Especially when compared to PS4-5 games.

People like to dig up that old games quote all the time, but they're forgetting he was talking at the time about Gran Turismo games. I dunno if anyone's gone back and tried the PS1/2 Gran Turismo games, I have recently, and there's absolutely no reason to play them any more aside from curiosity. You can get the same experience but much better in the later titles. It's not like unique titles like Tomba that are stuck on legacy platforms and have no alternatives outside of emulation.

Doesn't it make financial sense to buy a 12-month sub to PlayStation Now and let Sony convert it over to PS+ Premium? You'll essentially be saving some dough?

Is it even possible to buy one anymore? Sony doesn't offer them anymore and I'm pretty sure every other place is out of stock (I looked at Amazon and CDkeys), at least in the USA

Nice to see PS1 and PSP games will be downloadable and not cloud only. I'm curious to see the full list of games for each tier and the details of how time limited trials are going to work (I assume will be a full game trial during maybe 5 or 10 hours).

Plus also would like to know the list of games included in extended trials and if Sony is going to include demos of their games day one on an EA Play fashion.

It feels weird that the amount of games gets reduced from the current PS Now offerings which was of over 900 games, I assume they had to sign the games again.

I'm also interested to see if they offer upgrades from Essential to the other tiers.

wait, PSP~PS3 are streaming only??
PS1, PS2, PSP, PS4, PS5 will be available to both stream and download, but PS5 may not be available to stream at launch.
PS3 games will be only available to stream.

I went to the official PS Now website and PSN store and now only shows 1 month per $9.99. Which is the same deal you'd get by getting a year of PS+ Premium without discounts or cdkey discounts.

You frequently can buy discounted PSN credit gift cards at the cdkey stores with discounts like around 20% or beyond, so even if they would stop including PS Now and even PS Plus discounted in CD key stores, we're talking you'd get a year of PS+ Premium for around $7.99/month or less.

yeah... most people aren't going to bother with that plus you have to have the upgrade option available to you at the time, so you still have the problem of outside of BF, GPU costs $15 a month for a total of $180 a year because they have no annual discounted option

Nothing ground breaking, it’ll be interesting to see what the PS1 catalog looks like. I know some were expecting big 1st releases like GamePass, but you typically don’t do that when your current model works so well.

I imagine they’ll do it eventually, maybe in the next 5 years or so.

Well being the only option to play them doesn't make them look good.
It is still look bad.
You just accept it because there is no better option or option at all.

I did just check on PS Store (GB) and I was able to select the 12 month option but was in two minds whether to bother. I am subbed until October this year already.

EDIT: Ha! And minutes later it's gone. There is only the 1 month option now. SHIT. I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT!!

I'd love to replay Tomba! Very good little game. I hope it's in this sub.

He got the features and prices wrong. Literally just got a good guess on the tier names, which come on, essential, extra and premium? Fucking yes that's a piss easy to guess structure.

He piggy backed off the Bloomberg article. He had no inside information here. Now hush little puppy
Before today though the 3 tier structure wasn't even known, who's to guess that it wouldn't be a single one price service or a 2 tier or 4 tier structure? It could have been a single sub with add-ons like you see in Prime. Fair enough if you just want to dismiss it away for whatever reason but on face value any reasonable person can easily come to the conclusion that he had some inside information on this just by how much he did get right. Maybe you need to have a think about the biases that you have that are convincing you that he simply guessed because the laws of probability certainly suggest he knew something.

At the end of the day i don't really give a crap whether he did or didn't but it's certainly interesting to see the lengths you will go to to defend your standpoint in the face of reasonable doubt. It will certainly be something I will think back to when you are fighting on another hill on another day.

Amazing work Jim Ryan, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Gonna buy highest tier for the next 10 years. Use my money and keep creating best games ever.

This was all already leaked by Jason last year

Now again hush puppy

How is this big news! Essentially, nothing is changing. Really low effort bare minimum proposition by Sony

This changes everything cause they are preparing to expand a.k.a. just the beginning.

Playstation Plus is almost 50 million subscribers.

They're bringing PS1, PSP and PS5 games which were not present on Now.

We just need to wait for the lineup, but more than 400 games on tier 2 and more than 700 games on tier 3 is big.

The middle tier could be worth it depending on the games, will be looking forward to the full list.
Don't really care about the retro stuff, specially since Ps3 is locked to streaming. And I don't want to support this "backwards compatibility but only through subscription" bullshit anyway.

I guess they will be selling the ps1, ps2 and psp games separately though right? That would be pretty awesome.

Doubt it.
Why let you buy the handful of games you actually want to play when they can force you to subscribe to gain temporary access to them. Same as Nintendo

I just realize that they don’t even expect a large catalog increase since there already 404 PS4 games and 418 PS3 games.

In the end it’s a bit of a nothingburger, better than today but that’s it.

And what happened to DemoPass?

Moving? What proof? One game? They already did that with others games in the past but it was never a moving trend... it was about an indie they wanted to promote/help just like well that link you posted.
Bro read the supporting article I even posted the quotes. They are in discussions with third party publishers and the talks are going well.

Why is everyone so angry? Were you really expecting this to be better than what is delivered? We're once again in the arrogant Sony timeline and not everyone has the means to create something like Game Pass, whether they want to or not. Sometimes you just end up with Hard Pass ™(coined by adamsapple adamsapple )

Lol ok so why would anyone subscribe to this when it isn’t new games? Your argument is flawed. People now want to carry their growing library of games across generations.

As much as I would love to take credit, it's been floating on twitter since basically the announcement lol.

The internet works fast.

Yes, obviously PS1 games don't have a high graphical fidelity now, that doesn't mean they inherently look bad. Games like Tomba are incredibly unique in both visual and play style and it's never been remade. It's not Gran Turismo 1 for PS1 which has been outdone in every possible way since.

My point is that Jimbo was talking specifically about Gran Turismo at the time, he never ever said "why would anyone play old games?". He even clarified it later, but the internet just loves to cling to quotes they can misuse to shit on people.

Why bother with PS4 compatibility then? I bet people are actually playing PS4 games on PS5 more than PS5 games.

How did they test the feature and/or get the numbers?
If gamers cant actually play a bunch of titles in BC logically the numbers will say people arent playing a bunch of games in BC.

I get that they can't compete with Gamepass on a first party day 1 basis. However that last tier is the worst of all tiers and should be scrapped. I don't see why anyone would pay extra to stream games at all... Let alone PS3. I get that the architecture of the PS3 makes it impossible/difficult to play natively... But the tier just seems a mess.

Why not include it In the mid tier and have the higher tier to include a few newer ps5 games (which don't have to be brand new, something like sackboy, cyberpunk, guardians of the galaxy etc)

No emulation?

And what PS1 - PS3 games are we getting? Some measly 1% of top releases?

Sony is absolute shit under Ol JR.

I had no hype and I'm STILL let down.

i was also ignore those sites (feels kinda grey market)

Ps now was already shit, i fail to see how this rebrand is gonna make it any better lol, they need a serious investment in buying devs, if are going to sustain a subscription service, and 3 tires, like why, they barely have enough content as it is lol.

Last gen saw a major shift to digital. Allowing the customers to keep that library on new gen was strategically vital if you didn’t want them looking at new gen as an all new ballgame. Small investment for the good will it provides.

Honestly my biggest issue with this is its $60 a year for BC, when competition is offering the same but for free. Paying this is all but ensuring that future PlayStation consoles will also tie BC in to the subscription model.

This doesn't change anything in regard to BC at all. You still have PS4 BC. Beyond that it is streaming. Same as always.

This is great for new Playstation users. For existing user is kinda meh.

Unless the third party and day one third party compensates the middle tier.

The top tier is completely useless.

Game trials are in the premium tier.

GP on consoles has 447 games
GP on PC has 413 games
Honestly past a certain point the totals mean shit as the vast majority of people will play the same 20 games or so. And I’m sure these libraries will just grow over time.

Ill check it out closer to launch to see if there’s any value in it for me but for now it looks like I’ll just be sticking with the essential tier.
