All PS4 Pro enhanced games (native support and boosted)

Ah okay, very good to know. was worried there was something wrong with my PS4 or TV. Thanks for the info!
Don't worry, your PS4 is fine. A couple of games have ghosting issues related to a mediocre implementation of Checkerboard Rendering. Dragon Quest XI has terrible ghosting on the Pro because of this, but none on the basic PS4 version. Also, a lot of games have minor ghosting related to Temporal AA, so you sum those two up and ghosting can be terrible sometimes on some games.

Yeah I guess I'll learn to live with it or play in 60fps mode. Thanks!

Even basic PS4 games have Temporal AA related ghosting, so you can live with it. Dying Light has terrible ghosting, so does Far Cry 4.

I have a 55" 4K HDR screen and even then I'd rather play the game at 60 fps. RotTR is very stable with minor slowdowns on some of the more open areas. I appreciate the crisper visuals at 4K but 60 fps beats them all for my likings.

the game already looks amazing on a base PS4 IMO, the boost to 1440p with less dithering motion blur artifacts is great

Do I need a HDR set to enable 1440p? I game on a 24" ASUS 4K/60hz monitor (without HDR) and I can not calibrate any video settings besides gamma.

When you first hooked it up to the monitor it should have shown you available resolutions if I remember correctly, at least it did I think with my 4k HDR TV. I have not tried hooking it up to my 4k monitor but I can play 1440p games just fine (steam, origin, uplay etc games) on it. I have a different brand monitor than you but the asus 4k monitor should be able to display 1440p just fine. You won't know what resolution you are playing in unless you have a display button on your monitor that tells you the current resolution. It SHOULD default to 1440p on 1440p games PS4 games that default to pro mode when started.

Smart thinking. I did press the menu button (which displays the resolution in the upper right corner) and it showed 3840 x 2160. When I would switch my monitor's input to my Xbox One input, it does change that display information to 1920 x 1080. I wonder if it won't show a different setting for the PS4 Pro because the console is outputting a 4K signal, but not so much the game itself?

The PS4 Pro never outputs 1440p, either 2160p or 1080p (let's neglect the lower resolutions for now). The internal resolution of the game is either up- or downscaled accordingly, if necessary.

Trying out this site for any pictures that are over 10mb so hopefully everything looks good.

Thanks for the comparisons! I count this as 1620p. While there are occasional sawtooth artifacts in small areas of the image, they don't appear to be tied to motion. (It may be shadow dithering.) Therefore, I think this is a native presentation and not CBR. It strongly appears to downsample when running at 1080p.

Apart from the increased resolution, I don't see any notable graphical differences; AO, AF, textures, etc. seem identical in both Pro modes, so I assume it's not user-selectable but instead forced from the OS. We'd need comparative standard PS4 shots to examine if anything is improved on Pro over the base experience.

I've finally made updates to the OP. In addition to adding the titles in the change log, I also adjusted the summary so that it has a subtotal of officially enhanced games, separate from boosted ones. I did this because the Boost Mode list is becoming more and more stagnant; it shows fewer games than with official support now. In reality, there are bound to be hundreds more games which receive benefits from Boost Mode, far more than titles which are fully enhanced.

But once you get past the most popular hundred or so, it's very difficult and time-consuming to find comparative footage to look for improvements. I'll continue to try, but ultimately the list of officially enhanced games is more interesting to people, I think. They understand that Boost Mode provides nearly universal (if smaller) benefits, and this list is just a sliver that happen to have been examined. The official support list should be much more complete (but is surely also missing some entries).

As always, any assistance with images, links, or video is greatly appreciated! Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.

The PS4 Pro version uses a dynamic resolution with the native resolution ranging from 1440x1620 to 2880x1620.
It also downsamples.

Thanks! It's always a benefit to get separate confirmation. The shots in this thread seem to be full 1620p, not anamorphic, so it hits the full target at least some of the time. I also agree that there's temporal AA going on, as there is some very minor ghosting of blown debris (probably unnoticeable at viewing distance). It's good to hear that the beta is already a locked 60fps, too; that bodes well for the final release's performance.

Thanks for everyone maintaining this thread. I am soon getting a HDR TV, and the OP's list helped me to see all the currently supported HDR games.

Has anyone complied the list of known future HDR enabled games?

I also want to thank Liabe and whomever else helps keep the thread updated and moving along. A very nice thread for fans wanting to do homework on their Pro support!

I don't think there is a list, but some I can name off the top of my head are:

Call of Duty: WWII
Wolfenstein II
Evil Within II
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Everybody's Golf
NBA 2K18
WWE 2K18 (not confirmed, but likely)
Gran Turismo Sport
Assassin's Creed Origins
Days Gone
Spiderman PS4
Detroit: Become Human

There are also XBOX exclusive games like Recore and Forza 7 that will have HDR

Xbox official site has listed Evil Within 2 [and wolfenstein2] to be 4K and HDR compatibile on Scorpio, which means that HDR will also be avaiable on PS4 and PS4 Pro.

As for PC, I don't know.

I can't see the difference between those screenshots.
I have a 4k tv, will I be disapointed or is it worth it getting a pro?

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
So there is mention of an Frame Rate option for the Pro in Monster Hunter World but no clarification exactly what that means.

Dunno what the enhancements are though. It doesn't have any visual mode options and it looks really ugly. I'm not good with FPS so I can't really say if that's enhanced at all or not.

Yes it's worth it IMO. I got a Pro before I got my 4K TV and still thought it was worth it. The jump in quality for games like Horizon Zero Dawn is very noticeable.

Sounds like a BS PR excuse.

There's no way HDR halves the frame rate. Games have been HDR internally for a long time (since 2004-2005 at least -> Half Life 2, Far Cry 1).

While there isn't so much a processing cost, there is still a cost to bandwidth. That may be the reason.

That's not the same HDR :p
The internal rendering pipeline has been HDR for a long time (GeForce 6 era GPUs supported it).

The current HDR implementation allows to export HDR framebuffer to the display instead of downgrading it to 8-bit (tone mapping process).

Not really.

Either way, I wouldn't take Adam Bhatti seriously:

According to Guerilla Games, there is some additional bandwidth cost when performing HDR.

Will Liabe start a similar Xbox One X thread?
I can barely keep up with this thread alone, I'd hate to think what juggling two would look like! Fortunately, Banjo-Kazooie has created a thread for the One X.

From the preliminary research I've done so far, it either doesn't downsample from higher resolution when running at 1080p, or else it always runs at 1080p. (I haven't been able to find 4K shots to say for sure.) The AF does seem improved versus base PS4...but still pretty low. I don’t yet have any data about framerate. Previous musou games have had substantial fps improvements on Pro, but that doesn't mean this one definitely will.

Possibly, but I remember having HDR enabled on Far Cry 1 with GeForce 6600 GT (weaker than the PS3 GPU). PS3 also had HDR enabled on Uncharted 1.

It's hard to believe that modern GPUs would exhibit a 50% fps drop when enabling HDR... it just doesn't add up (8-bit -> 10-bit color).

That's not the same "HDR" from what I understand.

You're not wrong that it's a pretty minimal performance impact I'm sure, but I imagine the concern is more around simply the time it takes to get it implamented and testing it to make sure it's not effecting performance anywhere.

Just noticed Fifa 18 has been confirmed to have HDR:

https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2017/07/28/announcing-the-playstation-4-fifa-18-bundle-range/

Also apparently PES 2018 probably isn't on launch because it has a performance impact.

What???? Dynamic 4K for FIFA 2018? FIFA 2017 was native 4K alongside PES 2017.
I can't believe that HDR lowers FPS to half. NBA 2K17 had HDR and was still Native 4K à 60 FPS.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Infinite Warfare and BO3 were able to get upto a full 2160p w/ checkerboarding .

It's weird that they're ditching that and instead moving to a native rendering solution and dropping the max resolution in the process.

I personally think Infinite Warfare is still one of the cleanest Pro visual presentations, I know the post process effects also have a lot to do with this .. but what do you guys think about this ? @Liabe Brave and El_Chino

WWII isn't using a native resolution. They moved from a CBR solution to a temporal injection method.

Wait and see. Might just have worded it wrong. Could well be 4k during matches still, that's what counts the most.
Probably just their game engine doesn't handle it as well. HDR is going to look a lot better in Fifa than PES anyway.

Eh, I would not take NX gamer words for granted. He plays the guessing game way too often.
Ha, if only that simple! And I get loads correct from just that it seems. It is not a "Guessing game" but instead a very difficult process of figuring out how an image is constructed by only looking at a still shot or moving sections after the deed is done. The signs only show up on the horizontal axis with the vertical always being complete even at times we get the half width. As I say in my video it does not rule out a full use on both axis as I did get that in some other titles after many seperate grabs.

Once I have more time to look at the game I can check more thoroughly.

We can add another one to the pile of no downsampling. :/ Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana is native(?) 4K and 60fps on PS4 Pro on 4k TVs and basically the standard PS4 version on HDTVs with a 1080p resolution and 60fps.
