Assassin's Creed Shadows 💮|OT|💮 Play Stealthy for Me |づ ╸ . •́ )メ

So FOMO got the better of me and I bought the game yesterday. After completing the prologue and a few other bits and bobs (one being a kind of playable memory), I have to say that I am genuinely stunned by how much I am enjoying it.

I'll probably get negged for this, but I'm playing using quality mode on the Pro. The visuals are too good in QM to miss, at least until the 60fps mode gets a PSSR update. Tbh, the QM runs really well, so it isn't bothering me at all and I'm too busy taking in all the glorious vistas.

So yeah, much better than I expected.

Why not balanced at 40fps?

Game kinda falls off a cliff after Act 1, I see many people say they love the game and that the end of Act 1 was incredible ... but I've been underwhelmed since.

This makes little sense; act 2 is just a continuation of the first. Nothing changes except you have Yasuke as a playable character.

Biggest problem I have with this transition is the bullshit around it.
Yasuke as a character is fine no issues with him being there.

The problem I have is the terrible writing at this transition.

Naoe is on a hell bent revenge mission and will kill anyone involved in the early game events, but not Yasuke, nah, hes cool, cos he recognises her blade....okay then. Kind of kills the momentum and connection to the player.

Junjiro at his young age is able to do the same thing and inspires Naoe to do the same, not happening, never, the kid would HATE her no matter how much time and old man wise words.

So in the space of like 5 mins you have two seriously strange behaviours that essentially set off the foundation of the rest of the game.

Because of those things it lost momentum story wise for me but the game itself is still brilliant.

I simply don't yet have a VRR capable TV. I'm happy with the TV I have and can't justify replacing it so I can benefit from the odd 40fps game. Generally, 60fps modes are fine on the Pro, but this particular game would greatly benefit from PSSR in that mode.

And I'm not against playing games at 30fps, as long as they run well, which this one does. I like the RT reflections too.

I've had to stop doing every castle I come across (and there are so fucking many of them), cause if I do every icon on the map, this is gonna take me 500+ hours, lol.

I hope they add the auto-horse-gallop-to-waypoints option in a patch soon, it was such a nice QoL option in the previous games and I'm not sure why it's not a part of this one.

Kacho Kacho you motherfucker

Started this last night, I thought the first two hours were deadly dull. Seemed like it was mostly cutscene.

I failed one of the action sequences twice - a fight against a guy in the water - and it made me redo the entire stealth sequence that came before it. I was close to hitting the refund button, but I realised I could just run straight past everyone instead of sneaking through the grass.

It's pretty goddamn great after that, though. Haven't properly played an AssCreed since the first two, I'd forgotten how much fun they could be.

I took a nice 45 minute horse ride from the Hideout to Omi just to discover locations and enjoy the scenery.
I could have used that auto-gallop and I also miss the cinematic camera.

You should go back sometime to releases like Odyssey, Origins, Valhalla etc... All really solid entries. It's a good ip for the most part is say, the hook always lands

I did play Odyssey but gave up after a few hours when I couldn't get past the first big battle.

The original was brilliant, with the surprise reveal that you're really in some VR sim. One of the best videogame story twists that they couldn't really repeat with the sequels.

So after invalidating pretty much every report on their bug reporter tool website, of the stutter bug I mentioned earlier, ubi has finally recognised it being an actual bug and not individual hardware issues, and they made a report themselves.
If you can be bothered, please upvote it, it's an absolute pain to play the game on pc now

Just unlocked Yasuke 20hrs in. Got good weight on him and is slow and feels like a different game but in a good way. He stands out in scenes but you'll get used to it.

You can stealth with Yasuke but it's hard because they can hear him more walking and doing assassinations. Bow and the silent arrows with the katana. They should let Naoe use the Bow as well. Just got to separate enemies so you don't get detected. Try to clear out a castle with him stealthily it'll be a little more complicated than Naoe. He's fun

Yea it's a nice mix of characters, works better than I had thought it would.

Yasuke is incredible when you dont feel like doing stealth, the guy is a beast fighting
Yeah, especially clearing out castles, because that becomes very repetitive over time. Just go in and clear out, that's what I use him for, everything else naoe only run.

I may have 1 main quest bugged or not sure whats going on. Brothers in Arms quest. It shows me an area where i have to find a ronin. I have 3 blue dots there, 2 guard npc that i killed earlier and one casual npc, but he is not talking to me. Tried with both Naoe and Yasuke

nvm i youtubed it and it was indeed bugged, but i found the npc that i have to kill

Do I have a bug?
I am 20 hours in, I have Yasuke...

But my seasons are weird. Didnt have winter, now it was autumn and I got season change video and it stayed autumn. Before summer was two seasons....

EDIT: Its OK

From Reddit

Yes, each season has two steps, so there are effectively 8 "season states". The season changes at the halfway point and the full meter. The meter fills 1 segment every roughly 20 minutes of gameplay, but pauses during menus and cutscenes. Once the meter reaches a change point (half way or full) it will stop entirely until you change the season, either manually from the map, or automatically by fast traveling, changing characters, or beating a quest with a cutscene that reloads the map after.

So can Yasuke just not get some of the eagle spots on buildings? I got a few on trees but the first one I tried on a roof in a castle, doesn't seem to be any way for him to climb up there.

I'm only a few missions after the end of act 1 but the story is really good so far. And the origin missions for Yasuke were really good. Someone in another thread recently was upset that the locales weren't racist enough to Yasuke, he should check out these missions.

Yasuke can't climb all the places Naoe can, he's more for tougher combat scenarios.

Also, dozens hours in and I finally got my first traditional "Assassin's Gear" . Nice.

This game would've been a 10/10 if they didn't make Yasuke a playable character. I'm not sure what drove them to do that, but that is clearly the crucial mistake here. HIs side activities are simply terrible and playing as him feels nothing like being an Assassin. If it was just Naoe's game and she had more weapons, abilities, deeper mechanics/story it would be the best AC game easy. And it wouldn't have driven them to rush the friendship between Yasuke and Naoe so that you can play as him equally as much as Naoe and he can be "justified" in randomly appearing everywhere Naoe is certain cutscenes. So the story would have been way better.

I'm fine with his inclusion in the story, I loved his scenes near the end of Act 1, maybe even playing as him during select action set pieces in the main quest would have been fine. But there's an amazing AC game here where you play as this really cool female Shinobi and then there's pushing around blocks in tombs as a dude who can't really climb anything. And his combat is boring as fuck with no challenge.

The game is still amazing and a 9/10 for me but I will just play as Naoe as much as I can and once the main quest is complete and the only things left on my map are Yasuke's activities I will be done with it.

Nah. I love playing with Yasuke

Not sure if you're still playing this, but earlier you mentioned that the color coded blue and red attacks were a bit of a hassle for you.

One of the skills in Naoe's Katana tree makes it so that even the red 'unstoppable' attacks can be parried, you just need to be good at the timing.

It's been really good and has taken a lot of stress out of the combat.

You need quite a bit of grinding to reach knowledge level 6 though, right?

I've been playing for 25 hours and I just reached level 3. Some of these skills unlock way too late.

Yeah but I've been just doing any red knowledge icon activity that I come across when traveling, mostly using horse-back and not a lot of fast travel.

Finally unlocked Yasuke after 37 hours.
How big is this game? Almost 40 hours and 3/4 of it has been spent in just the first region.
And there's a total of 9 regions? Realistically speaking, I might not even finish this game as it's just too big. Lol

And after 37hrs, I think it's safe to say that this is the best-looking console-game to date. Bar none.

yeah... I am 15 hours in and just 1 and a half provinces are "walked upon".. not even completed.
And that's like 2% of the map.

tbh, I love the game, graphics etc but it's bloated as fuck and too huge. 15 hours as NAOE only and that should be it. Maybe 10 more hours. Let it be 25 and that should be it.
Next year release 15-25 hours yasuke game to tie in the story.

These 200 hours long games are scaring me... I was not playing since sunday because it's overwhelming honestly.

It's almost impossible to imagine that each gears of war/uncharted was 5-8 hours and each mass effect in trilogy was 20 hours.
AC1 and 2 were like 15-20 hours long games too.
Why the bloat. why are they doing that

you're like me

this game will probably take 200+ hours for people like you and me

ac valhalla was no different, I spent 250 hrs in total for full completion in that game (DLCs as well). I don't like fast travelling

and sometimes I just slowly walk and look around. graphics are incredible

The katana is actually the most versatile weapon IMO. I'm Knowledge Rank 4.

- You can use vault on any of the blue attacks to stop the chain and weaken the enemy.
- After dodging a red attack, there is a skill to have the dodge attack weaken the enemy. So you use that on the last hit of the red chain (or you can interrupt sometimes if there is a long enough window).
- Go for a perfect parry on normal attacks, this will also weaken the enemy.
- After using the ability where Naoe kicks an enemy away, throw some shuriken for safe added damage.

So then, you can potentially weaken enemies after every single attack.

Bro there is no way they expect me to kill seven people of this Twisted Tree group just to continue the main quest, right?

That is some wild padding if so.

Anything that' not in the main circle is optional and side content, you should still probably do it for XP and leveled loot, but it's not mandatory.

how is the gameplay and imersion? I can suffer story slop if those two are good.
I can only speak for myself and the gameplay is simple. It really depends how you play this game, you can opt for more a stealthy approach or leave it and go straight hayabusha.

The problem is, naoe is better at stealth and yasuke better in combat, but playing as yasuke makes the combat too easy and irrelevant. If you played GoT, then don't expect the same combat flow here, because it's not as fluid and defined, but still fun.

The story is also simple, basically it starts as a revenge plot. What makes this game is the world itself and the nice weather effects and seasonal changes.
