Made my way to Osaka, finished a few quests there and got killed probably too many times that I can count cuz I haven't had katana to match my level and enemies were insane, but then I got to the overgrtown temple.... fuck my life. So then I decided to start some story quests, get better gear and stuff. I just love the way they're doing quests, maybe not all of them are like that, but the one involving child kidnappings was great. You had to track down kids around the town, rescue them and kill kidnappers. I failed to rescue one kid in time, but the game accounted for that and I had a second chance to find where he is, which was great cuz I thought that I can't go back and fix it.

I haven't use scouts to make things easy which I think is the way to play and do your own field work. I haven't played Odyssey and Valhalla so maybe they had something similar, but the way they do quests in Shadows is extremely well done and you can choose what to say and fail cuz of the lack of knowledge or cuz you guessed wrong. Story related stuff is also great with great camera work and all that, love every second, as well as how multi-layered quests work and that you need to find clues, complete side objectives and only then get to the final part after piecing it all together.

Also, it looks like you have to find scrolls and rise your knowledge level to access higher tiers of skills and stuff, so it's almost sort of like in Sekiro. Idk how the hell have I missed that (they didn't explain it very well or maybe I missed the tutorial), but anyway, you need to increase your knowledge levels by praying at the shrines, finding scrolls and stuff and I think it's fine cuz it's a great way to encourage you to explore the world and find things, but some may not like it cuz unless you do that, skill points can't be spent beyond lvl 1 skills.

I can't tell enough how fuckin' amazing the game looks and I love what they did with wether effects and shit. The game legit has one of the best downpour and rain I ever seen, not to mention that it can build up by starting slowly and then gradually cool down with water slowly falling down from structures for a while. It's just insane how all this elevates the overall atmosphere and makes the world feel even more alive, cat and dogs shake to get rid of the water from the fur and these madman even made cat's eyes glow in the dark...

I fuckin' love this game man and I never felt like that playing AC since AC3 which also sort of rebooted the series and provided completely different experience from the Ezio trilogy, some may argue that Black Flag did it but no, maybe it was better, but AC3 was first to change a lot and provide much better cinematic experience. Anyway, that's enough from me, I need to get back to the game:messenger_relieved:
nice screenshots. Especially the last one. What mode/platform ?

Simplified hud and turn off the compass is the way to go. Just get lost in the world. Seems theres less checklist and more discovering in this iteration of AC. Took them 14 games to get the balance right.

Just finished the prologue (at least, until the logo), so far so good, reminds me a lot of Ghost of Tsushima.

Playing on the PS Portal, Quality mode is unplayable

I haven't played an assassin's creed game since Unity/Black Flag, and damn this music draws so much inspiration from the Tarantino films. The graphics, despite playing on a 4090, is really fucking nice.

PC, 1440p DLSS 4 Quality (77% of 1440p) 99% Max Settings incl. RT, no sharpening or chromatic aberration.

P.S. Oh boy do I have things to say about the tea party and what was after. But I'll save it for later and probably for longer review at some point.

The ragebait/inadvertent marketing campaign for this game ironically has me interested.

The last Assassin's Creed game I completed was either Black Flag or Unity; can't remember. I started Syndicate, Odyssey, and Origins, but they didn't have anything new or compelling to offer. What about this one?

Are you playing in balanced mode on your Pro? And yeah, I agree, I'm 5h in as well and loving both the visuals and the gameplay.

Did a castle infiltration and was a bit tough because I was underleveled and messed up some assassinations, but got some good gear out of it in the end, so it was all good, lol.
I started the game in balanced mode and found it very playable. However, in certain scenarios, such as rainy nights, it can get a bit choppy. Since Iā€™m not great at infiltration and often end up fighting head-on with Naoe, I felt more comfortable playing at 60 FPS. The game still looks great in performance mode but I feel there are less details and effects.

Nitpick: Eagle Vision on R3 kinda sucks. Should've been mapped to one of the directional buttons. It's just not a comfortable button to press and you need it all the time.

Another nitpick: every woman in this game is various degrees of mid. Almost none are outright ugly, but I haven't encountered a single pretty character yet. They all have huge jaws, square faces.

Another nitpick: I kinda feel bad killing random servants in castles. I know they will alert when they see me but still, one moment they're just doing laundry and before they know it the shorts with samurai skid marks is the last thing they see on this earth.

Is the knockout effect temporary?

There's many things I love about the game and some things I already hate

- Narrow paths to navigate the world
- 30fps hideout (WTF who signed this)
- Praying scenes and constant flashbacks
- Slow walking disease has spread to Assassin's Creed

It weird how on launch day I was missing DLSS among the options and now I'm missing Nvidia's Framegen

Only FSR available for me

Having worked as a 3D artist myself, there are a lot of little details that a super interesting to me, this one weirdly stood out to me:

You might not see it at first glance, but the top of the well uses pieces of wood that actually fit together like how you would build it in real life, they could've easily just intersected the models, since this isn't something the average person will notice, but they did it properly anyway šŸ‘

Changing gears to something funnier, there's a bug where if an npc is in a "sick" animation, hitting them only takes them out of it, with no damage, so you can assassinate them, but they'll just survive lol:

Image dump; the fog in this game can become super bright and blinding even if the sun's out. Azuchi is really cool, basically a city build on a mountain.

Two nitpicks:

- the codex needs a list of people youā€™ve met plus how you met them and their connection to the story. It is impossible to keep track of who everyone is
- the skill tree kinda sucks? Not a lot going on in any of them. Iā€™m happy itā€™s not a bloated freak like Valhalla but this feels pretty barebones.

Canā€™t believe how few combat moves there are, huge missed opportunity to add some actual depth.

I really like how both characters aren't just distinct, they are both "I'm the best at what I do, but what I do isn't very nice"; you can stick to just one of them, though right away you miss what the other can do and it encourages actively switching between them.

O am almost done with the prologue. Wow itā€™s really something. I am surprised my amazing graphics and good interactivity with the world.

Playing pro 30fps mode for now. Looks very sharp and controls great. The motion blur is excellent quality. See remedy? This is how you make 30fps mode that is good.
The videos did not convey how good this looks. Also hdr is great.

Couldn't play at 30, visually stunning but smooth 60fps is so much more pleasant
