Ignore the politics of this post, please. This was a good compilation on X and I just wanted to show it off. He also was complaining about the game's gore so it fits too.

I personally think the gore in modern video games sucks and this is the only thing about Shadows that's appealing is the gore. Most games have fake gore. I'm a man is disgusting taste and played too much 90s and 00s games like Soldier of Fortune and Mortal Kombat.

What say you, GAF? Is the gore too much?

I think the combat and the gore from what i've seen looks fucking awesome. Gore in videogames is something i will always be fond of and one of the best examples of gore in a videogame is this gem.

They almost certainly will have a setting for this. It isn't uncommon in games nowadays. It's a big deal over nothing. You're playing a game where the primary goal is to assassinate people.

Edit:

The Japanese version of Assassin's Creed Shadows will be censored due to its violent content when the game is released on March 20.

The announcement comes from a statement shared to Ubisoft's Japanese X / Twitter account, in which the company confirmed that the next Assassin's Creed entry will not feature decapitations or dismemberment due to Japan's rating board.

"Regarding differences in content between the overseas (North America, Europe) and Japanese versions of Assassin's Creed: Shadows, the version sold in Japan of Assassin's Creed: Shadows (CERO: Z) will have some differences in in-game content in order to comply with the regulations of the certification organisation," said Ubisoft.

"The option to switch amputation on/off from the game settings has been removed, and amputating the neck and limbs of enemies during gameplay is now always impossible."

Ubisoft also noted that it has changed the "amputated surface of the body" and that "The representation of some Japanese voices played in the overseas version (North America and Europe) has been changed," but didn't offer any specifics on the latter adjustment.

This sort of censorship isn't uncommon in Japan. Many popular titles, such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Last of Us, Until Dawn, and more have previously seen the reduction, and sometimes the complete removal, of violence, gore, and nudity due to the country's regulations, so it isn't a surprise that Assassin's Creed Shadows would receive the same treatment.

While I think it is ridiculous that the setting is removed entirely in Japan, this is proof that there is, in fact, a gore setting that can be toggled outside of Japan.

I don't have a problem with the gore - but what's going on here? Is Assassin's Creed an action game now?

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I didn't feel that way in Origins. This looks like a straight action title?
It kinda started with Odyssey then Valhalla went really action-heavy.

Apparently, according to Ubisoft, this character is more "action-y" and the other character relies more on stealth.

Welcome to video games

This kind of reminds me of when people complained about Nathan Drake being a prolific murder. I feel the same way about that too.

This isn’t actually serious is it?
I forgot about that stupid nonsense. People were really showing their mental illness during that era of gaming. Luckily, they've mostly left GAF.

I remember people online saying MK was too bloody and gory. Uh, yeah and that's why it even exists lol. People like the gorefest. If you don't like it, go play Thomas Was Alone or whatever trash tier game you find less offensive.

As an 80's kid, I get my kicks from gore in my entertainment. I've honestly hated how a lot of gaming has felt "toned down" for the most part. Even when the games are rated M in many cases. Only a few continue to be pretty damn gory. I really don't care for the Assassin's Creed IP, but if the response to the game is positive, I'll check it out at some point I'm sure. The over the top gore definitely adds to the appeal for me.

Definitely one thing I never understood about that. In games over the years you could control the gore settings, so if we continue to have tech like that why remove gore from games? It's silly to me. Ragdoll and gibs are one of the best combos. Especially when you're playing a game that revolves around powerful weaponry.

Wolfenstein 2 had so much stupid woke dialogue in it and I bought it anyway because it was a gory mess. I just want to teach the youth what a gib is.

I do find this pretty funny. It almost has the same feel as Postal dude going to town on some specific group.

I might actually get this AC. Looks pretty good to me. 🤷‍♂️

It's offputting because its a black guy going around murdering Japanese people in a realistic setting. And yes, if it was a white person going around murdering japanese people in a realistic setting like this, it would be just as distasteful.

Which polygon totally fake race is allowed to kill polygon totally fake Japanese people? Or are the polygon totally fake Japanese people off limits?

Got to say that the gameplay from Naomi character seems much more fluid. Samurai gameplay is a bit meh from the videos.

That said, Gore is fine and there should be options to adjust it.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I mean, I like some violence in my games so I'm not complaining. I just think it's hilarious how they get flak for everything they do with this game. I don't want them to walk back Yasuke, just the same as I don't want games that I care about dumbing down their vision to appease a vocal minority. But they are gonna have to live with their decision, and I'm going to really enjoy watching the drama when it launches.
