Not a fan of too much gore, loved Doom3, but the newer ones have too much gore, will never play them.
Also don't enjoy shooting (virtual) people in the face during my free time, FPS is not my genre.

I think we will see the Trump effect with this game, where people are going after this game so hard that it will end up being a case of 'no such thing as bad publicity'.
Already seen the game being no.1 wishlisted on numerous key sites, and topping some 'most wanted' polls on key sites.
It may not end up doing Valhalla numbers, which by all accounts was huge, but i dont think the game will flop.

Im not a fan of the art style overall, but gore is the least of the games issues. Not sure how its even a talking point.

Wishlists aren't sales. We've seen this before. The PR and websites work together to craft a narrative about the game's inevitable success. They tried it with DA a few months ago.

Don't care about the gore one way or another. After the shit show that was Valhalla, I'm done with assassin's creed and Ubisoft in general.

Fuck yes, more gore! I want to Jackson Pollock the shit out of the scenery with blood, guts, and limbs. The rest of the implications are too stupid to even discuss.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Nah, I don't think so. It's more the "black man killing asians" social media outrage, which is fake drama.

These mofos might not have played some of the RE games from the 2000's to 2020's.

RE4: White guy kills Spaniards
RE5: White guy kills Africans
RE6: White guy(s) kill Chinese
REVillage: White guy kills eastern Europeans
RE4 Remake: White guy kills Spaniards again

It was stupid when N’Gai Croal did it, it’s stupid now. These “controversies” always vanish when the games release because it isn’t genuine.

Shadows has way more to worry about than this.

Call it fair or unfair, but yes, Ubisoft's entire fuckin' future seems to be riding on the success or failure of this one game.

Most of the outrage is fabricated I'm sure, but I do follow a couple of Japanese channels and the overall sentiment seems to be that something is simply "off" about it as in there is no Japanese authenticity and comes across like this fabricated fake Japan. One mentioned that it feels like what she thinks Americans feel when they see Americans in anime.

I think a lot of the "outrage" about this game could have been fixed with one simple change, and that was their description of their game being an authentic story or whatever wording they used.

Their fucking story person having shit like Black Kings in their twitter bio, and them placing a "controversial" character at the forefront of their game definitely didn't help either as who and what exactly Yasuke really was seems to be all over the place.

The fact this game appears to be the make or break for Ubisoft is fucking hilarious to me. Ubisoft is a company that I would honestly not really care that much if they went under.

Making Yasuke one of the main characters was extremely stupid. He should have been a side character like da Vinci in AC2 IMO. What's done is done though. If the market doesn't care, the market doesn't care and the game will bomb.

Yeah, this entire thing is a mess and it's actually hilarious.

Like they make a broken Torii figure, they make square fucking tatami mats, and countless other things that are just plain lazy. It's like they are TRYING to piss Japanese people off.

Add that to the character designs obviously copied from google images, the mediocre and unrealistic world design, and shit animations we the game looks like shit.

It's pretty strange because they are sensible enough to cut stuff from past games that downright make the game worse because it would not resonate\make sense for japanese culture.

No more killing animals so worse enemy variety
No more enemies making a pile of bodies outside camps because japanese people can't do that, but it was a very nice touch than only ac game have
No more torch because house and castles were made of inflammable materials so everything would catch on fire, and it was nice to always have a torch in past games

I think they just hired an inept historian that doesn't know ALL things about japan culture but they clearly tried.

Too much gore is never a problem for me. It's still funny that brutality & guts are always welcome, while showing some cleavage or attractive females needs to be erased from the gaming business.

After seeing the previews, I agree. The good news is it seems we can play as Naoe for 90% of the game anyway. So the market will likely make him a side character, whether Ubisoft likes it or not.

For a company as big as Ubisoft there really isn't a good excuse for their ineptitude. Their reaction to controversy also comes across as tone deaf and that they don't care.

I'm going to enjoy the meltdown and reaction to this game when it comes out though so it's not a complete loss.

How long until we get gamers are racist articles from Polygon when the numbers come out and the majority pick Naoe over Yasuke. It happened when everybody played as Alexios versus Kassandra so it's bound to happen again if you really can choose to not play as him often.

Haha. It's tricky to do it this time with Naoe. It's going to take some mental gymnastics to scold "chuds" for preferring to play an asian female. The kind of gymnastics your garden variety Polygon writer isn't capable of.

May be they'd say "the White man would even prefer an Asian female over the Black man". But saying that sounds more racist than the underlying accusation. Lol

i was not excusing them, just stating facts.

Also, people really chose to play as alexios and his 80s porn level of voice acting? Kassandra was such the superior choice...

If it includes explicit sex content, then I guess it'll balance it out. But idk, only game I find gore cringe and idiotic is that Sniper Elite game. Sometimes I think shame there's so little of it in game, sometimes it feels too much, depends on a game. Btw link is dead.

Why should he be a side character? Do you even know how the story is going to play out ? lol

This game will not bomb, I think this will end up being one of the best selling AC games but I don’t think the game will “save” Ubisoft. Very few games can “save a company”.

I played as Kassandra and i think she rocks.

I'll rate her my second favourite AC character after Bayek, but i only liked the RPG AC games so no big selection, anyway she was funny and cool.

Can't see the original x post, cause twitter. But, calling something gorey is such a weird thing to do. There is no definitive line in the sand. To some people a single drop of blood is too much. To others, they would be fine with blood and guts flying around their living room in the ultimate 4D experience. Saying something is too gory is just an opinion.

Because the main character should be a Japanese samurai and your character should interact with the many famous people from that period.

What I assume will happen is Yasuke finds out Nobunaga is a Templar or is working with them, becomes an assassin and then goes on a quest to assassinate him. Yasuke will work with Akechi and other famous people to take out various samurai/Templar working for Nobunaga to weaken him until the final battle at Honnoji.

Ignore the politics of this post, please. This was a good compilation on X and I just wanted to show it off. He also was complaining about the game's gore so it fits too.

I personally think the gore in modern video games sucks and this is the only thing about Shadows that's appealing is the gore. Most games have fake gore. I'm a man is disgusting taste and played too much 90s and 00s games like Soldier of Fortune and Mortal Kombat.

What say you, GAF? Is the gore too much?

The compilation seems to be down, is there another one?

I like good gore in video games, but most modern gore feels cheap.

Dead Island 2 is an example of really well-done gore. Gore where real thought went into it, making it fun.
The Last of Us Part II is another great example.

But many games use a simplistic system: "apply X damage to limb Y to replace limb_complete with limb_stump," which adds nothing to the experience.

There's a certain magic to well-executed gore that can enhance a game significantly - many developers don’t seem to understand that.

It's basic ass gore like valhalla, nothing remotely impressive unless you never played a vg in your life.
