The nitpicking this game is getting is funny. First watermelons and now gore. Other recent games like Rise of the Ronin and Ghost of Tsushima had way larger issues with historical accuracy and very few people cared.

It's offputting because its a black guy going around murdering Japanese people in a realistic setting. And yes, if it was a white person going around murdering japanese people in a realistic setting like this, it would be just as distasteful.
Almost nobody complained about Nioh. I don’t think anyone complained about Rise of the Ronin either, and in that game you can create a black or white character and go around murdering people with plenty of gore.

The person who made the tweet about the gore (and which is actually not the one shown in the OP here) makes it clear it's political. It's not about the gore (he writes so himself).

It's about what he thinks he sees as an attempt to humiliate Japanese people by... (well, read the tweet, it's political).

I'd say he's off his rocker, personally, and can be ignored.

This used to be the baseline in video games. Gory are games like Soldier of Fortune, or Manhunt. I think TLOU 2 is way more violent than this.

Ultra gory, lmao.

These people never saw an ultra gorey vg in their life, this is the same tame shit that tsushima has, the absolute bare minimum.

Even valhalla was more violent by far (and it was still tame as shit)

Also, if it was a japanese dude killing other japs it would be ok? Insane grift.

The gore is not the point of the tweet.

Where are the examples of all the people you say are complaining? Because I’ve seen none.

Why did these nutjobs never complain about the gore and blood splatter in other games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Rise of Ronnin?
Or can only Japanese developers use gore in Japanese games? The bloody state of this place ....

Ignore the politics of this post, please. This was a good compilation on X and I just wanted to show it off. He also was complaining about the game's gore so it fits too.

I personally think the gore in modern video games sucks and this is the only thing about Shadows that's appealing is the gore. Most games have fake gore. I'm a man is disgusting taste and played too much 90s and 00s games like Soldier of Fortune and Mortal Kombat.

What say you, GAF? Is the gore too much?

Rest assured, Kangmin Lee, you can also slice down Asian pixels with an Asian avatar, I'm pretty sure you'll also be able to kill some European dudes. On a serious note, I'm glad Ubisoft had the balls to implement this level of gore in AC Shadows, it looks very good.

I ike wounds to be realistic in games so this is a positive for me. If you slash the stomach area do the intestines fall out on to the floor?

Fabricated outrage and the “black people beat up Asians” narrative is grasping at straws and a sad display of Americanism - believing that only what happens in America is how we read the world.

It kinda started with Odyssey then Valhalla went really action-heavy.
Just as a side note - Valhalla was action-heavy, but there was zero weight to your actions. The animations can look nice for sure, but it felt like you were waiving around a feather duster no matter what weapon.

Discord surronding this game is really getting frustrating. I do understand some of the vitriol but the game looks and plays much better than what people keep complaining about all the time.

Gore looks fantastic. Its a samurai game. Its suppose to be gory and bloody and violent.

Katanas piercing through bodies. Sure it must be gory, how could it not?

Stupid argument this time. A different discussion is turning AC into a trashy combat RPG, which is wrong. It had a reason in Origins (before Bayek learned the Assassin's way but it's nonsensical to keep that style, more so when they seem unable to design proper combat)

Gore? We've been killing in AC games for what, 14 years now? Whether it is by stealth or openly. It is an "ASSASSIN" game mate, what do you expect, rainbows?

As @Flabagast stated in the first page, people will criticize this game from everything now. It seems that Kangmin Lee fella is the biggest instigator on the net. Isn't that the same person who also criticize watermelon-cherry blossom overlapping? Just let it go man. Really what the hell.

I also hated Ubisoft chose the only "black, historically controversial 'samurai'" on Japanese history to impose their agenda and I said lots of stuff about it. But that's enough for me. For the rest, we'll see when the game comes out.

I'm just splitting hairs here, but Japanese people in Japan are not the minority .. that analogy doesn't work here.
I mean, people did freak out over chris killing black people zombies in africa. Or MW2 soldiers invading the favela in Brazil.

You can't ignore "the politics", because that's the root of the issue. The gore in itself isn't the issue. It's that by having something as culturally insensitive as Yasuke, then gory fatalities only adds insult to injury.

Nothing to do with Yasuke. Japanese regulations have become very strict about gore in video games lately.
