The shimmering on the fences is quite distracting
The resolution and anti-aliasing should be identical between the two versions.Yup .. its not great image quality...I'm thinking of buying it on Xbox just to see how much better it actually is
I've been playing this on PC over the last couple weeks. Here are some quick points.
- Ubisoft usually cooks with their DLC, and Syndicate is no different. I highly recommend getting all the DLC, gold edition, or whatever the fuck the bundle with everything is called.
- Some of the cutscenes are indeed prerendered. It's mostly the big ones that occur between Sequences. There's a mod for PC that upscales them to 4k60.
- The cloth physics are capped to 30 fps on all platforms, but you can edit an INI file on PC to tie it to the game's frame rate
- The game is likely using FXAA on console. MSAA and TXAA are available on PC, but those are so heavy that I doubt they'd use them on console. FXAA is actually always on for PC. I believe it's due to their use of weird LOD or mipmap settings that can cause a lot of noise due to the amount of geometric detail.
- The PS4 Pro version ran at 1620p, so the jump to 4k isn't going to be that big.
- The game has an overall very soft appearance, even at high resolutions. This is likely caused by the aforementioned FXAA along with the various PostFX that Ubisoft likes to use. You can mitigate some of this on PC by playing around with the INI file, but I find injecting some sharpening with Reshade while is the best solution.
- The game actually runs really well now. On my 12700/4090 system I use 2xMSAA+FXAA with 4k DLDSR and cap my fps at 120.
- Many people use DXVK when running these older DX11 Ubisoft games, but at least for me it didn't result in any kind of performance improvement, though my VRAM and GPU usage jumped significantly. I guess nVidia's drivers are so good that it can smooth over the inefficiencies. If I was running AMD or Intel, though, I'd probably give DXVK a shot
- The Bleak Weather mod is awesome if you're playing on PC.
That's a good one. I also got the mod that removes the top hats from Jacob's outfits.Good summary. I recently played at 8k in my 4090 and it looks glorious and no aliasing whatsoever. I would add as well to your mod suggestion the hood mod so you can have the hood all the time, for me its essential
So, because of some clothing physics at 30fps you want the whole game at 30 instead of 60? Makes a lot of sense, and for sure it will make the game look better like you saidI loved this game back in the day and I’m now replaying it on PS5 thanks to this patch. I was already planning to anyway. I think resolution-wise it looks really good now but the 30 fps clothing physics looks unacceptable, they should have really solved this before releasing the patch. I’d rather set the whole game to 30 fps instead of this as it ruins it for me. Also, it desperately needs temporal anti-aliasing. So if one has the possibility, definitely play this on PC with clothing physics unlocked + temporal AA. That way the game will still look very good even today.
The resolution and anti-aliasing should be identical between the two versions.
Did you also read the part where I said “for me”? Did you know that different people can have different preferences? I know these are difficult for a 60 fps cultist like you to understand but one day you will be capable of it hopefully. So, because of some clothing physics at 30fps you want the whole game at 30 instead of 60? It's just that I don't see a reality where a locked 30 is better than a locked 60.Did you also read the part where I said “for me”? Did you know that different people can have different preferences? Like I said, different people can have different preferences, even if you can’t imagine this in any of your imagined realities. It's just that I don't see a reality where a locked 30 is better than a locked 60.
So which version is better at the end of the day? Base PS5 or Series X? I own both consoles and I'd love to go back to the game primarily to play it in 60fps.
DF has pretty much found a similar image between them, with better textures on the playstation side, but better performance on the XSX.... Nothing about the checkerboard nor native on XSXNot necessarily, multiple people with both versions have said the SX version looks 'cleaner', the PS5 is likely using the PS4 Pro's checker-boarded resolution and the XB version never got One X upgrades, but if it's like the Odyssey and Origins patches, it's using native resolution.
But if you only have access to either one version, it's probably not a deal breaker at all.
DF has confirmed that Xbox runs a lot better and looks better. PS5 has framerate issues. If you have PS+ Extra then you don't have to buy it. The game was great performance wise on PS5 so I really don't think you will see any difference regardless.

FYI. AC Syndicate is available on PS+ Extra. Also on sale for $8.99. Edit: Sale still on for Xbox version, but PS version is now $30

xrnzaaas The game was on sale on PS and Xbox for $9 but PS version went back up to $30. So if you are going to buy then definitely go with Xbox.
They didn't do a pixel count on the Xbox version. There's multiple users in this topic saying they noticed a difference in playing. Make of that what you will
The game's price is going up everywhere post patch, shitty but expected. Same happened with Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 after they got theirs.
I got it the Gold version (with all the DLC) from eneba for $14 a few days ago. That version is up to $18 or $25 depending on the seller from the same website now and will likely increase more.

Updating Syndicate but not Unity
Origins, Odyssey, now Syndicate, but no Unity
Yep, it’s a bit crazy that Unity is the one most people want updated and the also the one that needs it most, yet nothing. I would assume they are preparing a proper remaster for that game, but we are already past the 10-year-anniversary, which could have been the perfect time for that. Who knows…Updating Syndicate but not Unity
Origins, Odyssey, now Syndicate, but no Unity
Seriously, Ubi.
Will boot it up to see how it runs on the PS5, but its easily my least liked AC game
Having to clear sidequests to advance the main quest is simply idiotic design. Combat animations looked like shit compared to Unity. Graphics were a huge downgrade from Unity due to realtime time of day instead of baked lighting.
Upgrade Unity, dammit

lolAC3 combat was was much better than Origins and the rest.
Yeah, Im aware. But I think there are mods on PC that fix the LOD, and I dont think it would be an issue for Ubi devs.Unity has a big issue. The LOD (level of detail) is extremely bad and not far from Arno you can see blocky low res buildings around you and its really immersion breaking specially when doing parkour. I have played it on pc at 4k and 60 fps and this really bothered me the whole time
So its not as simple as just releasing an update and that's it. If they do this ,they should do a proper fix for this issue because playing on a higher resolution just exacerbates the LOD problems even more
lol
AC3 combat was super simplistic, and you're never in any real danger since you can just once shot everyone basically; killed this mountain of people by just standing in place and alternating between two button presses.
it gets better after the mid point, and the king washington dlc stuff is interesting, but yeah I'd probably probably put it at the bottom of the previous era ACsI couldn't get through the opening of AC3. Seemed like an hour long Native American simulator. Only mainline AC game I haven't finished.
Fired it up last week just to check it how it runs on the pro and now I'm about 70% into the campaign. Not sure if I'm gonna finish it but I'm enjoying it tons more than the shit-tier Mirage. Likely also because I had much higher expectations for the latter, while this is a 2015 game and it plays like one. Stealth is a joke and don't get me started on the horse carriage but there are some really cool ideas there, like your mobile base of operations and new traversal mechanics. Combat is ok. I really enjoy this setting and scaling this familiar, iconic architecture. Protagonist choice seems artificial due to minimal difference in playstyle but now I see what they're going for in Shadows, I think it could work.

Not as easy as changing an .ini file, I think. But not hard either.
I remember that "prologue" with Haytham being maybe 3 or 4 hours long before we got to see the AC splash logo.I couldn't get through the opening of AC3. Seemed like an hour long Native American simulator. Only mainline AC game I haven't finished.
Pop-in and LOD swap in Syndicate is also truly awful, probably was always like that but it's more noticeable now due to higher fpsYeah, Im aware. But I think there are mods on PC that fix the LOD, and I dont think it would be an issue for Ubi devs.

1 or 2 isn't 3 or 4.I remember that "prologue" with Haytham being maybe 3 or 4 hours long before we got to see the AC splash logo.
Definitely overly long
But it felt like 3 or 4!!1 or 2 isn't 3 or 4.
