I really don't know if this is going to affect sales all that much. The gaming community is a different animal from the overall population. A pretty decent chunk of the gaming community is on board with a lot of loony stuff. Much larger than the percentage of the general population. So I think most of the people who this annoys were never going to buy the game anyway or weren't even gamers. And ultimately, if people want to play it and it gets good reviews, I think their curiosity will win out in the end. After all, look how well Kingdom Come Deliverance did. After all the shit it got in the gaming community, it sold a lot. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that most people don't care despite claiming they do online, but also their curiosity won out over any actual principles.
Me personally, I think pronoun usage is fucking stupid and illogical. Is it something I spent time actively thinking about in my day to day life? No. I don't plan to buy this game. It has more to do with me thinking it doesn't look very good than the pronoun thing, but that is a small part of it. Less about the pronoun inclusion in itself and more "If games with weird stuff sell well, it'll open the door for other stuff down the road that is far more annoying." Would I buy a game that has something like this that looks like an amazing 10/10 game? Can't say right now, I'd have to see how I feel if/when that situation arises.
