Avowed Runs at 30fps on Xbox Series X and S, Obsidian Confirms

Avowed will run at a "baseline" of 30 frames per second across Xbox Series X and S, developer Obsidian has confirmed.

Speaking on the Iron Lords Podcast, art director Matt Hansen said Obsidian is "targeting a baseline of 30fps" for the first-person fantasy RPG. 60fps sounds unlikely, however, even on the more powerful Xbox Series X.

Every single fucking time.

New console comes out? "30 fps no more, it's 60-120 fps at 4k from now on!"

And 3 years later, everything other than a fighting/racing game is a literal coin toss on whether it'll hit 50-60 fps at 1080p, or will be 30 fps throughout the way.

And people ask why we want pc versions/ports.

I disagree so much with the dev. Has he not seen the huge difference with Starfield now? It's exactly a first person game that needs 60fps at the least, not 30fps.

At least offer two modes then. 30fps mode where they push all the effects and stuff, and a performance mode with cutbacks in resolution and what not. Goddamn.

Yep, these excuses are just dumb. If anything, a first person action RPG would greatly benefit from 60fps even vs a TPS game.

Anyways, I haven't seen anything in what they have shown to explain why they can't hit 60fps on XSX.

Another game coming in hot. Remember Starfield "cinematic" approach?

Given those visuals its laughable, theres games running at 60 with some basic ray tracing on the consoles, not like 60 was enough good enough for first person games that look like Avowed, but its a massive upgrade over 30.

Looks like they havent learned from Starfield and Redfall.

They're clearly not the masters of optimization. And I don't think anyone believes them anymore on the delay to help our backlog BS. Maybe they'll get a 60 fps mode working post-launch. For a game with that much action combat, it would obviously help.

60 FPS or bust!

PC it is but still, these Devs need to understand that 30FPS console games should be a thing of the past. I also dont get how its only 30FPS from looking at the footage.

Went from wanting to play this day one to not wanting to play it at all. Optimize your shit and don't throw around stupid excuses.

Looks more like it's a thing of the future with Capcom releasing DD2 and seemingly MH too with no performance mode, same for Kingdoms Come 2, this one or Hellblade 2 recently, or well, Black Myth Wukong, which actually doesn't have a "real" performance mode (and some others that just have a performance mode for the marketing, cause it's rough as hell)

Imagine being a videogame "journalist" and you have a developer who straight to your face says "you don't really need 60 fps anyway" and you just glance over that and write your fluff piece anyway without even asking that dev when he had the accident that caused this brain damage or if he was always like this.

I remember when Gears of War was coming out and Cliff Bleszinski excuse for the game not running at 60fps was it has motion blur, so wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Lumen and Nanite. You wanted "next gen". Don't ever say they don't give you what you want. With that being said, I expect a 60fps patch down the line.

It uses lumen and nanite but yet somehow still manages to look like shit.

The marketing tech buzzwords mean absolutely nothing if the final outcome doesn't pass the eye test.

Not trying defending IGN here but they didn't conduct the interview.

This is the video of the interview that they're writing about, I timestamped it:
