When a game on PC says SSD required, that means full stop it simply won't work at all without one, right?

No, you can still play it on a regular HDD. If it would be otherwise Larian would have told us besides that the game doesn't distinguish what Harddrive you have other than speed.

On the game's Steam page it says SSD required on both minimum and recommended specs.
I see what you did there.
I can deal with longer load times so long as the game runs the same during actual gameplay.

I don't think it's an issue with the journal. There doesn't seem to be a way to advance his questline.

Other people confirmed they were playing on a regular HDD just the loading times are higher, so don't worry it works on a non SSD.

Also the game has slow HDD mode in options so it works with slow HDD.

Ok, luckily i had a save at the right point and decided to test it out.
>If i choose to long rest to go to the tiefiling party before talking to Halsin, he automatically addresses me the morning after the party. If that didn't happen to you, try long resting again or reloading a save from before the party.

Bought the game. Started it up. Enabled “tutorials”, yet the game doesn’t explain how to play at all. Just dumps me into the game with a hojillion toolbar icons with absolutely no explanation. It tells me how to move. Thats it. Doesn’t explain how to attack, loot, check inventory, nothing at all. Just “click left button to move” and “press J for journal”.
Meanwhile the entire contents of the D&D player handbook is set on the toolbar with no idea what to do. I am old and played BG1 and 2 back when they were new with no trouble. Why is there no manual and no on-boarding for this game? It made me lose interest really quickly.

Theres an inspect button (T) that explains whatever it is you want to know about
Click on an enemy to attack. Click on the ground to move. There, all set!

A shame the game doesn’t actually tell you this.
It isn’t just the toolbar. I get into my first battle and there were no instructions on how to actually attack or use any abilities whatsoever. No explanation of movement, turns, range, etc. I just clicked on the enemy and they eventually died.
It’s as though the game was only tested with people who already know how to play. I’m going to give it the two-hour Steam try, but being overwhelmed with no instruction plus the abysmal frame rate (25fps average on a 3060) is likely resulting in a refund.

Thats weird. I also have a 3060 and get 60 fps at ultra settings. If you're on a laptop, you might want to make sure its plugged in.

This game has exacerbated my need for a new chair, my back is killing me. Bought a long ass hdmi 2.1 cable and will run it on my tv while laying down in the couch lol.

Thanks for the tip. My laptop was plugged in, but you reminded me that I had set it to “quiet” mode for Civilization 5 the last time I played. Now it runs at around 100fps.
I feel like an idiot. I bought and refunded Sekiro a few days ago because it was also running at around 25fps unless I set it to low quality at 1080p. Oooops.
Anyway, I spent my two hours with this game. The later tutorial prompts actually helped. It is strange that the game doesn’t tell you anything about combat until your second battle. It’s still not the game for me. The 1999 me would have loved this game. The 2023 me enjoys the JRPG style more than western style now.
The game is clearly well crafted and deserving of any praise it receives, though.

If you haven't refunded yet, you might want to check the origin characters. You basically play as self made character with their own classes and backgrounds. Of course there's still role-playing involved, and you can change classes if you wish, though that "wouldn't be canon". I imagine the experience that way would probably be closer to something like The Witcher 3 or a more linear rpg in general.

So this is how I resolved the Myranda quest in Act 1.
Anyway I won't be playing this game for the next two weeks as I'm going on a family vacation. But I'll be thinking about this game a lot over that span.
I bargained with the Hag to get Myranda back and get me a stat bonus in exchange for letting her live. Then I found the rod and revived Myranda's husband as a zombie, gave the rod to Myranda, and she says she's going to take him to Baldur's Gate to cure him. I'm curious how all of this is going to work out, I wonder if the letting the Hag live is going to come back to haunt me at some point, and whether I'll end up running into Myranda and her husband in Act .
Anyway I won't be playing this game for the next two weeks as I'm going on a family vacation. But I'll be thinking about this game a lot over that span.

I'm still at the start lol. Found some people trying to help this guy who was dying I think he was attacked by an owlbear. They attacked me so killed them. Went to see the owlbear but GTFO of there. I did unlock the sealed chest with the prayer.

What's up with Invisibility? I have the cloak on my fighter, and he keeps getting ray of sickness'd and sniped by goblins when he's invisible. At first I thought it's due sticking around the "ghost" that is left behind but no, it happens even if I'm nowhere near it. Some mechanics are downright annoying. And why the hell is Wyll in my camp, I never even talked to him or asked him to join me.

Are you sure you aren't performing any actions while invisible? Invisibility goes away as soon as you do something.
Edit: Also the spell only works once per long rest.

I'm having fun with the game. It feels like there's something to do or find everywhere you go. This game is amazing in that you just don't know what's going to happen next!
Went back and killed the two ogres who were fucking Spoke to some gnolls (?) who I convinced not to eat me but then I tried breaking a post (it glowed up) and they attacked and killed me. There were some goblins watching a gnoll stuck to the windmill so I tried stopping it but it went faster and the poor guy went flying to his death and then I got attacked .... and killed by goblins. Went to cross a broken bridge and this devil appeared.
Found a burning house, went in to rescue the guy, found a valuable ring. Then spoke to a cow. Someone was hiding in one of the buildings and I went into an underground hideout area. I convinced the woman to let us in but when I tried disarming a trap they all attacked me lol. Was trying to find Karlach but went back and added Wyll to my party.
I'm getting wrecked in fights I'm thinking about turning the difficulty down but I don't know if I should. I want to enjoy the combat but I feel it's too difficult. I'm more interested in the story/characters so maybe I should give it a shot but I don't want it to be too easy.

If you've already bought it on Steam then you can use GeForce now on your phone/tablet or TV (if it supports it) to keep playing then your save will cross over to PS5 on release.

I was in an area with no NPCs and a red message atop the screen said "There's an interesting conversation nearby", but none of the party members have the dialogue option either - anyone encounter this or know what it means?

i went there but that woman asked me to escort the tieflings away. speaking to others it seems she's trying to take control while the other druid (halsin?) is away. so i'm going to try rescue him to get him back to sort her out. i did think about killing her but don't think that's the best thing to do. i did consider helping the tieflings but i think it's best to try get rid of that woman. i don't know if what i'm doing is right and i'm worried it'll fuck it up. i did read somewhere that there is a big choice to be made at this point so i'm being careful.

Doing now second run on tactician (hard) difficulty, is not as hard as i tough it would be, especially if you can think outside of the box.
