Banned for using photo mode psn

Likes moldy games
My 18 year old Xbox account got banned 3 months ago. It got hacked apparently. It happened when their servers all got fucked up. Lost all my emails and games etc and they didn't give a fuck after weeks of trying. I nearly smashed my X and S to bits. I then remembered my Son had some reward points, so I got 3 months Gamepass and just collect Reward points now and use them as Xbox will never get a penny out of me ever again.

I know the pain. I had the exact same thing happen to my original 2002 Xbox Network/Xbox Live account back in 2012 during the wave of account hacks that were happening back then. Despite rotating my password someone got into my original account and got it banned. I appealed to try and get it back but Microsoft told me to get stuffed. That account was only 10 years old and I was livid, I couldn't imagine having an 18 year old account get wiped out.

And then on the other side, I can share pictures of Porn games on Steam and people can give me steam points for it

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Good luck. I got a warning back in February after playing Helldivers 2. I don't message people and generally keep my microphone off. I did revenge kill a group that were trolling me in game so the only thing I can think is that they mass reported me but that doesn't exactly match the criteria for the email Sony sent me. I tried contacted support for more information which was a fruitless exercise.

Looks and sounds like fake email. Ignore

Do not share material that is pornographic, obscene, or that depicts extreme or abhorrent violence.

If that's the term OP violated, it's pretty hard to understand how content within an unmodded game sold on PSN can be pornographic.

Can one be banned for sharing a screenshot of a nude scene in cyberpunk or similar? Genuine question.
Context matters, the same way a nudist beach isn't pornographic. Take a hot woman from that beach, put her at home on her bed in some cute panties (more clothed than the beach!) and it becomes pornographic.

That said, if OP is being honest that is a harsh ban.

I don't get how you can get permanently banned off PSN for a screenshot of a game distributed on the PSN store. That makes no sense. If you're being truthful OP, and you've really invested that much money into your account, maybe seek some legal counsel.

Sony is number one so they don't give a shit about a single persons account. Top dog always screws it's customers the most.

You can always spam socials and try and get your story to go viral. Seems like the only way to get any sort of attention these days which is quite sad in itself.

Not that surprising, people on GAF and Era have reported similar bans for uploading pictures of Cyberpunk on XBL, a game that is sold on the storefronts. Selling the game on storefront doesn't preclude you from getting banned for uploading what they might deem inappropriate.

The ban is not the surprising part, the PERMANENT ban is.

I've been permanently banned from PlayStation Network for using the official photo mode in Stellar Blade. Apparently, the automatic upload feature flagged my harmless screenshots as explicit content.
Despite multiple appeals, Sony has refused to lift the ban. This has resulted in the loss of over £40,000 worth of games and complete access to my PSN account.
It's truly absurd that a simple use of an in-game feature could lead to such severe consequences.
PS needs to get rid of photo mode. It annoys most people who don't want to use it and the minority that does use it risks getting banned.
If PS wholesale abandons photo mode, trophies and 'sharing'(using an entire button) the PS platform will be better off.
System resources and in particular DualSense buttons should be entirely focused on gameplay and a gaming-centric UX.

Photo mode is used all the time here on NeoGAF and it is incredibly rare that there is any issue with any of it. But I don't get this notion folks like you have that since you don't care for photo mode and trophies then it should be taken away from everybody. I use both, but you think I shouldn't be able to use either. Just don't get it.

The sweet sriracha sauce at PDQ tastes like mayo. I'm not sure what they're thinking. I ordered the 16 piece tender family thing and was dissapointed. Zaxby's is definitely superior.

It’s still absurd because Sony and Microsoft content regulate the stores. Every game also goes through regional content ratings. If someone is banned for sharing a screenshot of a game distributed on those stores, it’s not only a failure on part of the individual who shared it (if it violates terms of service), but also the distributors. Sony can’t accuse OP of failing to comply with the code of conduct, when they’re enabling it. It’s like saying don’t share these drugs, but you can buy them from me. Lmao.

It looks like there is an obvious overlap in how Sony/Microsoft seem to moderate their service users and the content they distribute on the service.

I'd get that ban overturned. I wouldn't settle for less.

If you didn't recognize them when you read them, then how would you understand if I explained them to you?

I'm sure there are plenty of things I've read on these forums that I thought as "ignorant" but I'm not so full of myself to assume everyone else will see it the same way I do.

But you do you.

Xbox threw out some bans before when they were still allowing retail emulation, but there it made sense cause you don't want people to be uploading pictures of Gamecube games on the XBL servers, but yeah this is absurd.

Banning someone for sharing content from a game on retail, and not even an NC17 type deal, is dumb.

I asked a simple question my man. Not sure what your problem is.

People like you who challenge the assertions of others are my problem. On a daily basis I see the exact thing that OP is talking about. My job has software that does the type of stuff OP is commenting on. There are broken and redundant systems made by braindead people because they don't think about the consequences of their software implementations. They also don't use the software like end users do. Then the software shits the bed and even breaks things it is designed to handle and fix. But this topic has plenty of people saying "This didn't happen" and "There's more to this." I've seen enough in life to say that it is absolutely possible based on how clueless corpos and people in charge implement broken ideas that do more harm than good in favor of the virtue and safety they are trying to maintain. That's the ignorance I am commenting on. I am not surprised by it so perhaps astonishing was the wrong word, but it is tiresome and of note at this point. It is crazy how stunted the world can be intellectually.

Then there are the money comments. People made remarks about how much OP has spent on games. It's OP's money and they can spend it however they like. It is irrelevant to the conversation beyond the legal consequences of spending that much money and then a company just nukes those purchases.

So my problem is making my comment and having people challenge my thoughts on something, then trying to turn it around when I reply. You challenged my thoughts. I will reply as needed. Own that and deal with it.

You having a problem with people questioning inconsistencies in what someone says is a you problem. The OP was asked a number of times to clarify some things he said and he simply did not. That has nothing to do with broken systems. That is based entirely on the OP's own words.

Bullshit. I asked you a simple question on what you were calling "ignorance". And even if I had "challenged" your thoughts....so what? You really believe your comments cannot be questioned? I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but you are quite wrong. I'll question as much as I want.

I’ve read enough of these that I blame the company not improving the software. It’s a closed system they have complete control over everything. The one net to catch all is terrible approach. It should know the rating and auto blur the photos from users. No sane person reads EVERY TOS that are pages long.

Tired of the companies avoiding any liability with a buncha word salad.

Who challenged your thoughts other than seeking clarification of what you meant by the ignorance in the thread? My problem (LOL, like anyone on message boards cares) is people that go straight into asshole mode instead of explaining their position when asked a simple question for clarification.

You can call me ignorant for not going all in on the OPs explanation. It has nothing to do with Sony or their software, I can see something like this happening and Sony being an ass about it. It does have to do with the way the OP presented his experience even to the point of creating a long reply that looked like it came from ChatGPT. Ignorance for doubting? Meh. It is more like critical thinking and not taking everything I read on the internet at face value.

Do I believe OP is 100% telling the truth? No. However, I do believe the account did get flagged for inappropriate material. I also believe there is more to that account. Do I still want OP to get the account back? Absolutely.

I know ToS and EULAs don't have legal weight, but they will say that you never actually owned any of it, merely you solely were given access to them as long as met the code of conduct and the service was still live.

And the courts will likely do jack shit to challenge that. Perhaps if there were a group action lawsuit and years later you'd get compensation.

It's why I consider all digital purchases with DRM as merely indefinite rentals and one reason I buy games I like in physical form were possible.
But that could easily be countered by arguing that if you own a physical disc you could still play the games. And I don't think if challenged with a good legal team, any court would agree that if you spend money to purchase a game that they can say you don't own it. At the very least I think courts would meet in the middle and say ok, you can take away their access to the games, but then you have to refund their purchases.

I had a screenshot of Cyberpunk character creation and the character was naked from waist up. It was one of many various screenshots that were auto uploaded to Live like everything else. I got a warning that such pictures are against TOS and I could get banned from Live following future "infractions."

Shocking that they act like it's the user's issue, when it's auto uploaded from an officially purchased game on their store. At most, they should just delete the image from Live and give you the reason why and leave it at that. Threatening a ban is them going full retard.
