I have kind of changed my mind from 5070Ti/5080 because I am working more with AI on a side and 32GB would be nice to have.
And upgrading from 3080Ti would be a nice bonus.
On a more somber note there is a non zero chance of Xi invading or blockading Taiwan in 2027-2028.
Now that's going to be problematic in much more serious ways vs GPUs of course. So even thinking / saying that I would get a 5090 as a hedge is dumb, but it's still there back of my mind.

I was dead set on 5090 but now wavering towards 5080. My main problem is the heat. I live in a superhot country and it will be unbearable in summer. And if I have to blast AC 24x7, along with increased power usage of the card, then my electricity bill is going to go bonkers (which my wife pays!)

I'm already now using my 3080 for local LLMs to help with lyrics and stories, using FLUX.dev and SDXL for Cover-Art, images etc.
Video-Gen is the only thing that I cannot really use effectively rn with 10GB VRAM, so I'm very hyped to get my hands on 32GB VRAM and deep dive into Local Video-Generation.
Hopefully we'll get local music generation models soon-ish too.
Udio and Suno are great, but costly.

Ain't in a hurry, not aiming a 5090 as I don't play at a resolution that makes sense for these cards and I would have to change whole PC because CPU would bottleneck. Plus the price is ridiculous in canada

I just need extra juice for path tracing as my 3080 Ti sweats a tad too much for those. It worked nicely with Indiana Jones but most games aren't as well optimized.

Extra vram and new display port gen is enough reason for me. Just need to adjust case for the extra heat. In this gen a 5080Ti might actually the card to buy if they choose to make it.

People rushing now to get one are making a big mistake. There's really good PR out there that indicates you should have this for The Witcher 4 and GTA6, a lot of casuals will fall for this.
GTA6 (consoles) is getting delayed to next year when there will be lower costs and small tweeks. Nevermind the PC version which could be 3 years away. AMD has probably already bought the rights to be the GPU of choice because we don't hear anything from NVidia.
The Witcher 4 is 4 years away at least. I remember NVidia pitching CP2077 on the 2080. By the time it came out, you needed a 3090.
People buying this card now to be on the bleeding edge are going to buy another card in 3 to 4 years. What are they playing this year and next year on that GPU? Doom? Borderlands 4? These will be 4K on the PS5 Pro or a 3090.
