Destiny 2 (PC/XB1/PS4, Sep 8) CG reveal trailer, pre-orders, gameplay debut May 18th

Yes I understand that, I get that they are tossing it all out. That's great IMO.

But to me it is so cynical that in their second "trailer", they have to just openly state: HEY GUYS THERE'S GOING TO BE A TON OF THINGS TO CHASE!

It reads to me, as someone who was fulfilled by the satisfaction of improving his skills and not his numbers, that they are further going to move in the RPG direction and not in the FPS one.

To me, the gameplay of Destiny should be what does the selling, not the promise of a steady flow of trinkets. Kind of lame.

And yes of course I know about the infamous loot cave. While all of my friends were standing and shooting into a cave for hours on end, I was, you know, actually playing the game. Overtime, to me, the game became less and less about playing for they joy of play, and instead became about playing to "make progress". And when that really came to a head in the PvP with the release of TTK, I checked out because it was extremely insulting to my time as a player, and I say that as someone who had played since the closed Alpha.

So yes, it's clear that I am not their target audience. That's fine, but I can't help but feel disappointed.
Then I guess the gameplay show off in may should be something you should watch. Personally I think you're reaching with Cayde saying "loot" that the gameplay isn't a focus for them.

Also playing the game is subjective. It's not only one thing or the other. It means something different to anyone in Destiny. Finding loot is playing the game.

I had logged more hours than I care to admit and you're probably in the same boat. I respect the game for how well it pulled off it's formula and in my opinion, The Vault of Glass is a top 5 experience over the past 10 years of gaming. It was so novel and fun with a team.

Destiny players know they'll be chasing loot like MMO players know they'll be grinding experience points and NBA2K players know they'll be grinding for skill points. It's just part of the experience.

Was interested, but I read on GS that they have the same one year exclusive deal. If I were to buy the game it would be Xbone since that's where more of my friends are, can't support this one year exclusive horse shit.

So whats the best method for buying the game and expansion for the lowest price?
I have prime and GCU but neither seem to offer the version with both items at a discount. Does PSN let you use the 20% off code on preorders?

Destiny is too good of an experience gameplay/gunplay wise to pass on due to a couple exclusive strikes and weapons, at least for me it would be.

Just watched the "trailer". Absolutely awful. What was the point of that? It kind of seemed like it was trying to be funny, but it wasn't. It didn't really tell you much about the game. It wasn't clear at all, was the part about the gear being destroyed supposed to be like an in game explanation or was it a message to the audience or both? Why bother with this nonsense.

Does it go both ways; did you withhold support for games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Mass Effect 2, and Bioshock as well, which were one year exclusives for the XB platforms?

The project wasn't 'rebooted', it was just described that way. It's not like they just started from the ground up again. Its more like, they restructured what the game would be whilst using assets & tools that they'd been building anyway. That could mean certain priorities take a back burner, while other things became a primary focus. Could also mean that some part of the campaign could've been seriously restructured.

I will say this from the tidbits i've heard from colleagues there - they are very, very confident with what they've spent nearly 3 years building, which is a far cry from where they were in the 3 months leading up to the Destiny 1 launch.

Gah, I'm so excited.

At this point, if they announce it has in-game LFG for Raids and matchmaking for everything else (everything), it could be my game of the gen.

Cayde, man of the people, understands what we actually care about.

Ikora Rey and Commander Zavala don't and never will, because of their trash classes.

Hunters stay winning.

Can hunters float around and shoot lightning? And self res when things get tough? I think not.

Worldwide? Absolutely. But we have NA sales - the moment you account for bundles in NA NPDs, you get a clear picture of just where it was. Perhaps lopsided isn't accurate to describe it for NA, but it was a pretty healthy lead.

Everything i've ever heard about playerbase breakdowns whenever I enquired backed up what sales looked like. There was a closer spread when it came to hardcore player bases, or players who pursued end-game activities, when comparing the two platforms though. So, while PS4 still had a lead in numbers, you'd see the hardcore player base being not too far behind despite the lead in sales they had. But that makes sense - way more casual gamers purchased a PS4, and are likely buying Destiny on PS4. The hardcore demographic is probably far closer between than two platforms in big regions like NA & UK.
Any inclinations on what frame-rate will be on console this time around? 👀

Having never played the first one due to not owning any of the consoles it was on, I'm super looking forward to trying out the sequel on PC. Always felt weird the first one was console-exclusive.

If there's no matchmaking for story and nightfalls then I will riot in the streets. In the streets!

Alas, they can not.

Because Hunters don't need to self res. They're too busy getting their god damn hands dirty by cutting off the heads of their opponents in quick succession instead of shooting lightning like an Emperor Palpatine wannabe.

LFG on the Xbox One side of things has been a god send for these and essentially acts as a defacto matchmaking system. Hopefully they come to their senses and have some sort of party search feature for larger pieces of content in 2.

I've played with all three, and that slow float of Warlocks has been the death of me countless times. I like Titan's speedier fly-by more, but nothing beats Hunter's triple jump and speed when things get rough. Gotta love Fr0st-EE5 (and Dunemarchers) as well.

P.S. It's more fun to use your super every once in a while, than sit on it. ;)

I'm a bit frustrated that they didn't finally go all out on the matchmaking with Age of Triumph. Obviously, the player base will continue falling as we move towards Destiny 2 which makes LFG sites more of a pain to use.

I don't remotely understand how they added a Heroic Story playlist -- a fantastic addition -- but with no matchmaking. I would do that all the time just for fun if it had matchmaking.

I hope it's truly a big issue with their Destiny development tools and not stubbornness.

Has anyone ever ordered a Ghost or similar merchandise for your office? I was thinking of getting a 3-D printed Ghost for my desk.

Meanwhile I'll just make an LFG post and play

You guys who throw snark at the idea of matchmaking do realize that we still use LFG sites, right?

The point is that we shouldn't need to use fan-created websites because Destiny is missing one of the most basic features of an online social game.

FFXIV has group finders for Raids and I believe they introduce matchmaking once time has passed. The Division has optional matchmaking for every single activity that you can activate with a single button press.

Aside from the obvious argument to be had with Raids, there is not a single logical argument against optional matchmaking in every other activity.

I don't agree at all. The game will do really well on PC.

If this ends up being some early to mid last-gen port with very low effort to take into count PC's needs as platform then it will die off, quickly. 30FPS lock for PC version would be extremely stupid decision from Bungie and kill the game on PC. Double win if they lock down FoV too.

Agreed. There's no reason to exclude matchmaking from NF and COE. The same goes for those time-limited story missions of exotic quests.

I was giving his post a bit of good-natured ribbing.

Based on his light-hearted response I think he understood my tone a bit better than you.

Welp, as you can see from people that actually agreed to what you posted i wasn't the only one

My bad, you cant tell on these threads sarcasm or good natured ribbing. Like that guy that said my post made no sense, my first assumption is that he doesn't understand english. There's just too many shitposts.

I preordered on Amazon. I figure this gets me a beta code and if I don't like the game I can always cancel after that.

I played nearly 400 hours of Destiny so there is 0% chance I'll hate the Beta.

Of course I'm keen on seeing actual gameplay. I stupidly assumed that maybe they'd tease at some today, but no. And all I mean is that it definitely seems like the loot aspect is front and center, and the fact that they even say as much in their first real look into what the game's about is very telling.

I personally am hoping that statistics/builds/gear take more of a backseat in this sequel, but I know it's wishful thinking, and I know that I am not the target audience.

For reference I bailed on Destiny on PS4, traded my 360 towards an XB1, picked up Halo 5 and didn't regret my decision one bit. And I probably have over 500 hours logged total in Destiny. Had maxed all three characters but mained a Hunter.

I enjoyed the PvE content, but what killed me and my fun is that all of my friends were way more hellbent on running the raids over and over, ad naseum, for the "sick loot brah" than playing the PvP with me. For reference on my Crucible skill, I went to the Lighthouse repeatedly, every week until TTK. I liked that they tossed us competitive players a bone with that, but damn is it disheartening for a person like myself when your friends want to play out of compulsion for collection, rather than good times with buds.

Since it was the Crucible, and as pure of Crucible as possible, that I really enjoyed in Destiny, I bailed to Halo 5 so fast and I am glad I did. H5 isn't perfect, but it's Arena definitely hits that itch for me and the high/broad skill gap of the game is a ++ too.

In my 500+ hours of playing the game, I completed VoG twice, 2nd Raid once, and PoE a handful of times. Didn't even bother with TTK's raid as by that point I was so turned off with what Bungie were doing with the game, with the injection of all the superfluous dance moves, purchaseables, etc.

Needless to say, judging solely by this trailer and the message it projects, it seems like Destiny 2 may further not be for me.

I just hope to see a wholly detached PvP. If that happens, I may be in. I don't have my hopes up for that though.

It's a tongue in cheek joke from the sarcastic joker NPC that I intentionally breaks the 4th wall.

Come on guys. Let's allow some fun. This is videogames.

The way Bungie handled matchmaking for Destiny was so incredibly confusing.

The Nightfall doesn't have matchmaking yet the special strikes that pop up during quests, which are usually harder than the Nightfall, do.

They added matchmaking to Prison of Elders 42 but didn't go back and add it to the lower levels. And they don't have it in Challenge of the Elders, which is a bit easier and shorter than PoE42.

I ran CotE on all three characters almost every week from the April 2016 update up until Rise of Iron. That's 7-9 runs each week. 90% of the time, not a single person used their mic. Players generally understand the goals and how to play and it usually works fine.

Sure, sometimes someone sucks or screws up. It happens. It's okay. That happens both through LFG and matchmaking. And I'd rather the game find someone else to throw in with me automatically than have to wait in the hatch to find someone on LFG. (And then find a completely new group to run it on another character.)

There's dissonance between the subject matter and the behaviour of some of the characters that simply doesn't jive with fans, myself included. It seems to me that the game would benefit from 'mature' storytelling as opposed to this bro shit we have with Cayde. I just hope that what we've seen so far isn't indicative of the direction for D2 and is a ploy to get the bro's on board.

How was the end game flaming dumpster? when it was easily the best part of the whole game.

First off, just because something is the best part, doesn't make it good. Secondly, the end game if vanilla did have a lot of problems. One example: planet mat farming.

People play raids for the exact same reason you played Crucible; to have fun with their friends. People also play Trials of Osiris for loot, and strive for Lighthouse for bragging rights. Potato, potaeto.

For me I saw it as Zavala was there to tell the new players and those who checked out of Destiny 1 that there'd be a story. While Cayde was there to tell us returning players that the loot would be fixed and Destiny would still be the thing we've always loved.

I was just about to respond to that part of his quote. That's the real fun in running raids, or really anything in Destiny. The loot's just a nice bonus. My raid team and I have been running our Friday Night Raid Night event almost every week for the last two years. We'll get on chat, run Nightfalls, strikes, crucible, etc etc. and raids. Destiny is way, way better with real genuine friends to play along with, no matter what modes you're into.

Blatant x-post.

Gamersyde had high quality video up for latest trailer so screencapped shit out of it, just because. A lot good wallpaper material in that trailer.
