Destiny 2 (PC/XB1/PS4, Sep 8) CG reveal trailer, pre-orders, gameplay debut May 18th

I'm actually kinda concerned about port quality in this case.

Activision's port quality history + Bungie's "People don't play FPSes on PC anymore" comment does not exactly inspire much confidence in me unless they somehow got Blizzard to do the PC port.

If they're wise, they'll know that wringing blood from the recurring microtransactions stone on PC will live and die on port quality, but this is Activision we're talking about. And they clearly haven't given a shit about port quality of the Call of Duty games since Call of Duty 4 judging by the wall of "Mixed" and "Mostly Negative" I see for Call of Duty games on Steam.

The terrible logo

The fact that "I don't like how big the number 2 is in the logo" was the first reason you listed as to why the game looks like ass really doesn't help your argument.

the awful human Guardian art

Bad box art on a video game? Clearly, that is related to the quality of the game. You're really knocking it out of the park with your reasoning here.

the hubris required announce a $250 edition of a game with no gameplay

You're correct. That is indeed hubris.

And it sold out from every retailer within a couple hours.

(It also has literally nothing to do with the game looking "like ass" as you put it.)

selling a 2 part expansion pass when the first one was awful, etc.

All this combined with the fact that Destiny 1 was butt

It is fully understandable to be cautious of that. However, Bungie has absolutely proved they understood the issues with Destiny and The Dark Below and quickly made work to fix them over the year following launch. House of Wolves was a perfectly solid $20 expansion that already had big improvements over The Dark Below, for example.

Because of that (and the fact that development has gone much smoother than it did for vanilla Destiny/The Dark Below), I believe that Bungie learned their lesson and these two expansions will be worth it.

So it's understandable if you are personally still cautious but it certainly doesn't mean the game "looks like ass." And considering that's the only thing you mentioned that wasn't kind of ridiculous, I'll give it to you.

So many opinions here, it's crazy.

Preordered and awaiting beta. Stoked.
(BTW, is it me or does the hunter on the main art look like Gal Gadot?)

Yeah you're right. This seems more like a "you already know what this game is about so gere is a little extra nudge" type of trailer than a "so lemme tell you wassup" trailer.

If they had brought this trailer out two days ago and then said "gameplay reveal in may" I think it would have been better received than having a solid CG teaser for a CG trailer and then a month and a half wait for the gameplay.

Yes, but you do have to level them first..

Regarding Cayde...

We watched Star Wars, and you have Luke and Leia trying to talk Han into fighting for the rebellion. He's only there for the money - the reward, the reward. He doesn't believe in the Force. A hokey religion and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster, remember?

Then eventually he changes his tune. And people love Han....

.

Just my $.02.
That Han Solo - such a Deadpool.

This is some corny shit.

Way to undercut half of your trailer by turning the Cayde antics up to 11. I didn't completely hate it anything, it was actually kinda funny but is this really what you're gonna lead the drip feed marketing campaign with Bungie?

It just sends the message that D2 is gonna be some goofball shit, which yeah, the game had it's moments like that but never to the level of this, not even Cayde 6. He sounds one note here, like a cartoon character compared to himself in a strike like the Shield Brothers.

No gameplay either, SMH. The raid itself was ass but the Dark Below prologue destroys this if we are just doing CGI wankery.

I'm still hyped but this is a weak opening to the onslaught of stuff that will be put out before the Sep 9th. That reveal in May better be hype. Needs to have some epic shit played straight and some true exotics in vein of year one instead of "Shoot one guy to run 10% faster and do an extra jump".

But the trailer was already received incredibly well. Some of you guys really need to understand that a group of unhappy people on NeoGAF does not reflect the average consumer at all.

If it did, Call of Duty would have died seven years ago.

This trailer did exactly what it was supposed to do.

I give up, collectors edition still not up on Amazon. Look forward to waking up tomorrow morning to find out they went up at 3am and are now sold out.

Sorry I should have specified I would have received it better. I don't think it was a bad trailer, as far as CG trailers go. I'm just a Destiny fanatic and wanted some gameplay footage now.

Same, I was hoping to get some but I know that's not how these big announcements work these days.

Can't wait for the stream.

"A gathering of noble Guardians, new and old"

Zavala is talking to new recruits/guardians... ( ie. new gamers entering the world of Destiny ) He goes on to tell the 'new ones' that we were attacked, we lost our home and who did it.

Cayde is talking to the old 'dirty misfits'... 'that are all that's left' from Vanilla to now.. Cayde tells us we lost our stuff ( the grind was real ) but we need to go fight.. old dirty guardians not enthused.. Cayde mentions moar loot.... old misfits are happy..

Yes to both of these.

So let's get back to the game itself.

I'm going to describe my dream scenario for the opening mission in Destiny 2 as I'm hoping we get to play through the Cabal invasion rather than have it just be a CG cut scene.

I have this image in my head of you creating your new Guardian and it dropping you in the Tower as it looks today. The game would let you walk around the tower and talk to the NPCs for 5-7 minutes as if you're a brand new Guardian only to have it interrupted by a Cabal attack.

You would then be running around the Tower as it's being invaded and killing as many Cabal as you can before having to retreat with the Vanguard and other NPCs. I feel like that would be an amazing set piece.

The other thought that comes to mind is that the final mission in the game would be your Guardian and your Fireteam, having found the needs to reclaim your home, storming the Last City, making your way through to the Tower and finally climbing back up to the top, where the final boss would be waiting. (With the Raid taking place in the Cabal HQ as the Guardians take the battle back to them in retaliation.)

And perhaps when you beat the story missions, the Tower opens back up as a social space for players who have beaten the campaign.

There's so much they can do with this.

trailer was kinda corny but whatever, September 8 whoooo lets go.

Really want the PC version but gonna end up getting the PS4 one to play with friends and gaf.

If characters are cross platform then I might just end up getting both.

If that's what they were going for, I really dig that. But I just don't think it worked out too well in the trailer.

Seriously thinking about main-ing a Hunter this time just because I like Cayde so much.

They need to flesh out Ikora some more now.

She seems bland now compared to Cayde and Zavala.

The trailer was what it was.

What i liked
- Destiny is back with new content
-Giant Skyboxes filled with spaceships
- how many more times can i mention Space ships in combat before it gets obnoxious?

Disliked
- Move from stylized graphics to more grounded and realistic looking human character models. Really liked D1s stylized look.
- some of the humour didnt quite land.

Overall. Feeling somewhat positive.

We need a Destiny 2 bingo card...

- "Deadpool"
- "Borderlands"
- Still ultra-salty about preordering Destiny 1
- "Never again Bungie"
- "Serious sci-fi"
- "Dudebro" used randomly
- "10 year plan"
- Angry about that DLC already announced
- Angry about boxart and/or "2" font

Its going to be a looooooong six months

No awoken other than Zavala.

Clearly the focus groups targeted the awoken as too weird for the average cod player. Notice the characters who represented the players were human and some exo's in the shadowy background.

Total brosification of Destiny =/

Daddy Kotick needs a new Call of Duty.

It does primarily take place with Earth being attacked. Of course humans will get more focus, as the Awoken did in HoW...

Nah that's a worthwhile discussion (although I will never agree about slapping barebones matchmaking on raids as being the solution)

I still champion the idea of having the original system in place, with an added LFG in game and an optional match making system for those who wish to use it. I don't see why it would hurt anything to give players a choice on the matter.

For real though that boxart is booty.

3 leads are all humans.

No helmets.

Armor is generic as fuck, looks not even what would pass as legendary tier.

All wielding the most conventional firearms in the series. No one can hold a fusion rifle or a sword?

The humour in the trailer didn't click with me but I'm sure the game is going to be amazing. I really enjoyed Destiny and even though I haven't played it in a long time, I poured countless hours into it. Destiny was a great learning experience for Bungie. I'm going to miss the tower hub though.
