Destiny 2 (PC/XB1/PS4, Sep 8) CG reveal trailer, pre-orders, gameplay debut May 18th

Lmao no it doesn't.

After they've already announced the game, yes. Yes it does.

I'm sorry but that's bull there's been plenty of world reveal trailers that have been cgi. What makes Destiny any different from those?

"Reveal" means they show the damn game if they've already announced the damn thing and released a teaser. It'd be one thing if that "reveal" was the first thing that they put out and the first time you even heard of the game... but we already knew about it from the teaser trailer. After that, "reveal" implies there will be some substance. not just another teaser.

The RDR2 "reveal" was the first announcement of that game so nobody really cared. Here, Bungie released a teaser and hyped up a full reveal trailer 48 hours later. That sets up different expectations. People expected more.

there was substance, more than in the teaser. I'm sorry it wasn't the content you were hoping for.

Exactly. Seems like if the trailer is hinting at anything it's that there will be a division between the guardians. The grimoire is constantly hinting that the 3 classes do not get along.

edit: never mind, but i get what you're saying

The classes don't get along but they all respect each other. Small disagreements sure, but fireteams are fireteams, and they are stronger with diversity, the game and the lore agree.

Oh yeah.

Did you read the recent grimiore from AoT? Cayde made Zavala train kids in the ways of dodgeball

I gotta check that out! As Zavala said "Thanks for the tip."

But you still didn't tell me what you wanted to see. So at this point I'm just gonna assume you didn't know what you wanted to see and it was always gonna disappoint you no matter what they did.

I wanted to see things that actually represented what Destiny 2 would be. It isn't hard to guess how that CG reveal trailer isn't satiating.

I didn't see anyone complaining about the TLoU PT II reveal trailer. Though it was "in-engine" it didn't show gameplay. Same with uncharted 4. But somehow because bungie releases a cgi trailer with a promise of gameplay 6 weeks later there's all of the sudden all this whining. The salt is transparent on the forum for this game. Lol

That's fair and I agree, I wanted more than just a short CGI trailer, no matter how much they crammed in there to set the stage.

But hey, May 18. ^_^

I disagree, all we got was the story setup. Hardly a reveal. I wanna know some shit about the damn game.

Trailer reveals plenty about the game, as well as Bungie's PR release afterwards:

But... this CGI trailer actually tells us quite a bit about the product.

- Guardians have lost their Light and their Ghosts, which could mean permadeath for characters
- The Tower is destroyed and the vaults along with it, meaning your gear won't carry over
- The Red Guard of Cabal are the main threat, Ghaul being their leader.
- There's a new Cabal enemy, the first animal-like enemy design ever in the game
- Hunters, Warlocks and Titans return
- Shaxx, Xur, Ikora, Zavala and Cayde-6 return
- No sign of the Speaker, Cryptarch, Amanda Holliday and the faction leaders
- Suros and Omolon weapon manufacturers return along with some armor from the first game
- The Cabal have varying size shields and weapons, making them much more interesting and menacing than in Destiny 1
- A player ship is attacking what appears to be a Cabal Red Guard ship which could hint at Halo Reach style ship battles
- There will be loot. Lots of it

So a CGI trailer (No ingame footage)

This is a valid criticism though I didn't care myself. It was to tell us the story but I understand why people don't like CG trailers.

I don't mind them if they're good though and I liked this a lot. (As did my fiance. We both laughed pretty hard at it.)

a bad Deadpool ripoff character

Is it a character who is snarky and sarcastic in serious situations? Well then, it must be a Deadpool ripoff!

and Preorder bullshit at the end of the video.

Pass.

So you'll be passing on literally every single AAA game from the past few years and in the future? Good to know.

After they've already announced the game, yes. Yes it does.

The majority of people in the previous thread expected a CG trailer so no, it certainly doesn't.

If you put MM in everything else please provide in-game options to turn it off. I like to torture myself and solo nfs sometimes.

Definitely. Just a simple hit of the square button to turn it off before you hit 'launch' or whatever it is in Destiny 2.

All that's transparent is the rabid Bungie defense force.

Those other instances were the first announcements of their games. The first shit that was shown, the first time they were officially confirmed. For D2, that was the "Last Call" teaser. At the end of that teaser they promised a full reveal trailer in two days. 48 hours later and all we have is a somewhat longer CG teaser with no info about the game itself.

Their mistake was releasing the teaser in the first place and hyping up the reveal trailer. Should have just gone with one. Or called the reveal trailer a 'story' trailer or something.

Trailer reveals plenty about the game, as well as Bungie's PR release afterwards:

All it reveals is some story shit. Because that's what everyone plays Destiny for, right? Story megatons!

I wanted actual info about the damn game.

So you wanted gameplay. And I can't fault you if you thought that was what it was gonna be.

CGI gave me what I wanted, the story. You know the thing everyone bitched about Destiny 1 not having.

Bungie has a pretty nice road map for the months to follow. You'll get plenty of that in the months to come.

The story is what the game was blasted for by everyone, including current Destiny addicts. It's the very first thing they'll be looking to improve with D2.

Constantly whining about a CGI trailer isn't going to magically turn it into a gameplay video.

Agree with this.

They should have waited until May if they couldnt release gameplay now.

Having 2 cgi teasers/trailers whatever was pointless and not even the bungie i know from the past :/

First glimpse of Destiny 1 was in-engine/gameplay stuff too.

...obviously I will? That doesn't mean Bungie is above being criticized for the way this game has been announced. This was a stupid fucking way to go about it, and after the way they mishandled so much in D1 it doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy that they've got shit figured out.

They should have either waited until May 18th to announce anything at all, or released gameplay footage/information now. The initial reveal should have been a blowout that gets people pumped. I went into the reveal trailer hyped as fuck and left aggravated. I wasn't even expecting gameplay footage per se... but at least information. Give me some buzzwords or something. Hell, they could have just sprawled "IN GAME GRIMOIRE" across the screen and I'd have been happy.

No all that is transparent is the insane complaints who seem to bash destiny at every turn and can't have the patience to actually wait for the gameplay which they have announced a date for. These trailers were great.

Agree with this.

They are far from pointless. They have announced a date for gameplay so either you can wait and see what it looks like or just not but to say it's pointless really makes me shake my head.

That sets up different expectations. People expected more.
Yeah expectations of some people always seems to be a problem for Bungie/Destiny.

Most of these expectations being unreasonable.

Especially considering this thing was not even supposed to be shown until the end of April so the gap between now and May 18th wasn't so large.

The classes don't get along but they all respect each other. Small disagreements sure, but fireteams are fireteams, and they are stronger with diversity, the game and the lore agree.

I can still see some sort of mechanic where you can separately do missions/quests for Cayde or Savala. Nothing that completely divides the guardians but something in the story that shows they aren't on the best of terms and have different ways of going about dealing with the cabal.

Bungie said "reveal" when they should have used "teaser". The reveal is coming in May, months before the game's release in September. There will be an open beta. There is no conspiracy here on Bungie's part to trick people into buying the game before they know what they're getting. You've got time to make that decision, when you'll have a sufficient amount of info. Y'all need to chill out. Sheesh.

Reasonable criticism != "bash Destiny at every turn."

I'm hardly a hater.

DestinyGAF is practically rabid in its Bungo defense lately. They can still fuck up y'all, and it's not unacceptable to call them on it when they do.

Exactly.
You haven't given a valid point tho. And lol at calling me a Bungie defense force when 90% thread is a bash fest.

The trailer was a reveal of the story. There will be a gameplay reveal later on.

I wish we could actually discuss the trailer instead of this personally.

Just because your expectations for reveal were different than for most here or for Bungie doesn't mean this wasn't reveal.

But then this discussion has been going in circles between same posters for past several pages.

It's acceptable if you have a valid point but so far you haven't.

You haven't given a valid point tho. And lol at calling me a Bungie defense force when 90% thread is a bash fest.

The valid point is they shouldn't have called it a "reveal" trailer if it was just another teaser. That's valid, sorry. If it was the first thing they had shown then fine, it's a CGI reveal trailer—but after they've already released a CGI teaser trailer, people expect a bit more from the one being touted as the "full reveal trailer."

My personal expectations were met. I'm good. I preordered through Amazon, which is free as fuck. I'll get a beta code and be free to cancel the order anytime before it ships if I'm not happy with future information on the game.

I don't understand why people care that we only got a CGI trailer, though. They gave us a date a month and some change away where we can expect to see gameplay. Seems like people are just whining at this point.

I like how this started from somebody asking me if I understand what a teaser trailer is, then you saying that they called it a reveal trailer, and now people are arguing it was in fact a reveal trailer.

Gary looks damn cool. I hope to god that isn't a shield on his back that will change elements. Just part of his armor.
I want his helmet.

Reads Ace as Lace. May God have mercy on their soul
For real though that boxart is booty.

3 leads are all humans.

No helmets.

Armor is generic as fuck, looks not even what would pass as legendary tier.

All wielding the most conventional firearms in the series. No one can hold a fusion rifle or a sword?

not one of them is mexican. lame.

lol what do you expect D2 to be? It's going to be shooting things in missions you play over and over for loot. There's not much to reveal on that end.

How could any trailer do that? People have higher expectations for the story for other reasons. They just see things they like in this trailer that could be part of a better story, like more flavorful characters and a more focused story pitch.

I'm not the one claiming that it did though.

It was a great cinematic video, but lets be honest, aside from the few story bits we got, we have NO IDEA how different this will be from D1. We know nothing, and frankly, we didn't need such a fan-centric reveal, the people playing this game were going to buy it regardless of this reveal, you need to show something that will attract those of us who left, or those you never got to begin with. I need to see gameplay, we know the game is in development, we need to know if you're avoiding the first game's problems, whether you improved other aspects, we need some in-game shit.

I want to know what's different about it. I want to know if their dev tools have been overhauled to the point that they can iterate on content much more rapidly. I want to know if it's really gonna be an "open world" concept or if the Director will be returning. I want to know why they're doing a clean break from the first game and starting over. I assume that they have good reasons (and I can speculate as to what those reasons are) but I want confirmation. I want to know what the little easter eggs are that D1 players will bring with them. I want to know how the PC version will work. I want to know about in-game social features. I want to know if they're loosening up on their matchmaking stance. I want to have my mind set at ease that they didn't make the exact same mistake they made with the first game when they completely rebooted D2 last year and started over.

Anything, really.

This is meant to energize the base to jumpstart preorders. The best is yet to come.

These are excellent questions that will be answered in magazine articles, livestreams, podcasts, ViDocs, et cetera. None of this process is new, and such information never comes all-at-once with reveals from the larger publishers in the industry.
