if the playstation 2 is now outselling xbox by a factor of 8 instead of a factor of 10 (totally arbitrary numbers, btw), then "xbox is approaching playstation's share." though the ps2's absolute lead over the xbox continues to grow in that scenario, its marketshare is shrinking. so ballmer's comment is probably true. just deeply misleading.

In Canada, the Xbox had around the same percentage of next-gen marketshare as the PS2. That was touted 2 years ago, even before Xbox Live came out. I'm sure it got better ever since Live came out (because Canada is for the most part wired for broadband).
