Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
IMO, Doom 2016 is the best Doom Game ever made. IT just got everything right. Story, battle, weapons, gameplay, just a more fun to play game.

Doom Eternal was faster paced and was a good game. Just not as fun in my book.

Complicated answer. Eternal is better in almost every way except for the tone and story which went too far into the realm of D&D fantasy for me.

The tragedy is that the tone and story of 2016 were one of the absolute best parts. It’s a huge step down in that regard but again everything else is so wonderful that I find it easy to forgive.

2016 but Eternal is so much faster and more fun that it almost renders it obsolete.

It's like deciding between your two favorite pies! Eternal though has better flow in terms of movement, verticality and aerial combat- especially the DLC. 2016 is missing a proper dash so that alone makes it inferior. Also prefer Eternal's glowing ascetics with HDR enabled. 16 is a more relaxing comfort game you can enjoy while listening to podcasts.

Both great for different reasons, but Eternal. Incredible experience on the higher difficulties and the music is banging.

Hopefully Dark Ages is also great, even though the reveal footage looks like the game was made for mechanically-challenged journalists who don't know the Z-axis exists.

I love Eternal's double dash, vertically, platforming, soundtrack, and shotgun much more than 2016. However, the swimming, acid, blood punch, buff tokens, Archvile, instant block Marader, and ammo management were just too much after a while.

I get a headache just thinking about Eternal. But... if I were to master it, it might be a better game overall.

Eternal feels like you play competitive online match and 2016 feels like FPS horror single player experience. Start with 2016, even on medium difficulty Eternal can be brutal first time. I liked both games because I knew developers were trying to refresh gameplay mechanics.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
Sounds like a case that needs to be prescribed get guding medicine.
its just not fun to play and i wish there were more ammo. I have to constantly switch around weapon, activate abilities and chainsaws , very hectic in a bad way, i just prefer a simple run and gun.

Im just feeling stress playing this game, not fun at all.

Im playing at the second last hardest diffiiculty, im not sure what is my progress but i have reached the section whereby the monster invaded my ship and then i stopped playing.

I'm the opposite. I love 2016 but thought it was a bit too braindead and straightforward. I prefer Eternal's more traversal and platforming-oriented gameplay.

Level design-wise, Doom Eternal

Story-wise, Doom ‘16

The general gameplay is way too similar to differentiate, though Eternal at least has some nice QoL improvements but overall Doom’16 just felt bigger.

Also I prefer his ‘16 praetor armor, not that thats big of a deal or anything but just pointing that out

I love DOOM. Period. So, full blown bias.

I loved DOOM Eternal's over-the-top power fantasy perspective, the really hard lean into Evil Dead-like vibes and territory. But at the same time, I loved the more grounded and less "zany" vibe of 2016. 2016 also felt like a "full package" where DOOM Eternal didn't at all. I remember getting 2016 and being SO hyped for a new DOOM game, but also for the fact that it was a AAA title that had a campaign, multiplayer, and a level creator. It gave me old FPS vibes and it made me SO damn happy. All that it was missing was coop.

DOOM Eternal just had a campaign, and that asymmetrical multiplayer that no one cared for. I mean, launch week I couldn't even find matches on PC, lol.

DOOM 2016's overall vibe felt a bit darker and more serious, which I also love. While Eternal's felt more tongue in cheek and fun.

I loved both games. But I definitely think I loved 2016 more for many reasons.

Really excited about The Dark Ages, but I'm not gonna lie, there being no multiplayer or any other content kinda sucks. I guess something could still be announced, but I'm not betting on it. On one hand, sure, focus on the campaign and make it amazing, I'm all for that. But it's just the fact that it's DOOM, the game that ignited and carried the torch of online multiplayer and coop. Hell, even DOOM 3 had multiplayer. (I loved DOOM 3, but you know what I mean, I'm sure.) It feels weird to just not have it at all. Especially when they didn't do it in Eternal because Hugo said he didn't want to take away Quake Champions' spotlight (lmao). Well, that spotlight has been long gone, and we still didn't get it.

While I love DOOM, and I never want to see less DOOM, I do think we need a new Quake. Preferably a reboot that leans into the Lovecraftian style. I'd kill for them to go back to that, focus on a campaign, coop, and multiplayer and bring it back better than ever.

The movement is awesome in Eternal, but unfortunately it makes you play in a very specific way. The whole point of Doom to me is having a power fantasy using whatever your favorite weapons are. Having resource management and specific strategies for every type of enemy is exhausting and not fun.
