Dragon Age: The Veilguard review embargo lifts on October 28th (Via Tom Henderson)

I'm sure this twisted gender ideology infested game will get a good score from IGN, Kotaku, EDGE and Thegamer. I will not buy this game, and even if it si given to me for free I will not take it.

I think the preorder numbers will go much higher if the reviews are great. I bet most people waiting for those, because well... andromeda and anthem wasnt their best effort lol

I'm clearly not buying it day one. There's potential to be an ok game however.
Once it goes in discount, I might be interested.

I'll be waiting a bit before I buy it. I've loved the story in every single DA game. I'm interested in getting into this one as well but there's just so much out right now I might as well just wait.

One preview video I watched said the game has a very light tone. That scares the shit out of me, honestly, as I already don't care for the art style too much. The last thing I want is a light and comedic Dragon Age game. I'm still in a "wait and see reviews" mindset but I'm becoming more skeptical.

Art style and preachiness aside, the combat looks fun. The characters are a bit of mixed bag. I won't preorder, but I am curious to see the reviews.

The game looks reasonably polished, but I've never played a Dragon Age title before.

Will probably wait for reviews and see.

The story podcast series that just wrapped up was pretty serious/dark so I'd be surprised if the game was super lighthearted. Maybe it will veer a bit toward the Mass Effect vibe of having a pretty serious plot but some lighthearted/funny character moments, sidequests etc. here and there.

Where can I order some luxury popcorn? On a night like 10/28, I'm willing to spare no expense. Might even crack an EH Taylor or Blanton's to commemorate.

I wouldn't be surprised. I came across this interview from an article a few weeks back:
This summer, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was finally revealed to the world. However, the response from fans has been mixed, with some concerned that the tone is a lot lighter compared to previous games, especially Dragon Age: Origins.

In response to this, The Veilguard's creative director, John Epler, argues that it actually borrows a lot from Origins' tone. He highlights that while Origins had plenty of dark moments, it also had a lot of levity and comedic relief, something that the team wanted to "lean into" with The Veilguard.

"Something that I think we occasionally lose sight of is Dragon Age: Origins also had moments of levity," says Epler. "You have Alistair [who] kind of comes across as a goofball. There's a lot of funny moments with Dog."

He continues, explaining how this influenced the new game. "I think it's that contrast that Origins did that we really lean into in the Veilguard. There are characters who are a little bit lighter. But even they have tragedy. They have moments of personal despair."

So their rebuttal to fan complaints about the game's tone in the trailers wasn't to stress that Veilguard is indeed a serious game with high stakes but rather double down with "Oh, well, Origins had a few moments of levity peppered throughout, didn't you guys like that game?!" as if that was the highlight of Origins and not the grim aesthetic and dramatic, politics-fueled plot.

Of course it will. You think this new generation of writers (especially at modern day BioWare) have any semblance of what a well written, dark and dramatic fantasy tale consists of? It's going to be absolute dog shit.

My face is tired.

Hmmmm.

I really enjoyed Inquisition, but I don't like the idea of teenage girls being encouraged to mutilate themselves.

If it gets 9s, I'll get it. 8s or below - no dice.

It's been described as a guardians of the galaxy type story. If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know (
ie that it's trash
) .....

Guys, this game is not made for us, it's made for modern audiences. So do not waste your time on it.

It will probably receive decent reviews from modern gaming outlets. But the sales will be down compared to the previous Dragon age titles because it caters to a small segment of modern-day gamers who wont even buy the game :P

This will be like FFXVI where it's a decent 85 to 88 metacritic game but it spits in the face of longtime fans by dropping much of the mechanics or designs of the previous titles.

In ff16 u at least got attractive characters and 90% of the game isnt coloured purple :P

We've come a long way GAF. It's weird to imagine a sequel to this game is coming out in a few days. Sure doesn't feel like it.

Dragon Age: Inquisition on Metacritic has 85 (PC) and 89 (PS4).
That game also got a bunch of praise from critics back in the day. It's also one of the dullest RPGs I've ever played. I don't think it even deserves to be called an RPG.

The same will happen with The Veilguard. I only hope other RPG developers won't go this route.

Dragon Age: Origins having an 86 on Metacritic should be considered criminal. Today that game is lauded as one of the best western RPGs ever made.

I did enjoy Guardians of the Galaxy and wanted it to do better so there could have been a sequel but have no interest in this Dragon Age Veil game. Nothing from it clicks with me.

I gotta say, they seem surprisingly confident, especially after what's happened with all the recent woke games bombing hard (Concord, Outlaws, etc) but I just don't see how this won't bomb either, even with the extra sales from past fans expecting a miracle.

It's woke but it looks way better than Concord or Outlaws or Unkown 9. But, it's still BioWare with all their terrible recent releases. And the game looks to give a huge focus on DEI instead of gameplay.
So compare to the other, this one in the discount bin might be ok.

Just waiting for this to be "reviewed" out in the wild. Absolutely none of the major sites will be able to be objective about it.

It was, assuming you purchased it new. "Back then", to discourage used game sales, games came new with codes with parts of the game locked behind the code. So the game was only complete for those who bought new. I think that hurt reviews and also it was old school when that was frowned upon. I am guessing complaints were it was too difficult and janky. Shit that didn't bother me. It really was a great game with a cool story and characters. It really is too bad that the series was all downhill from there. I am guessing scores may be about the same for this game, as too many outlets give bonus points for DEI and woke garbage. Pronouns +1. Top surgery scars +2. Etc.

Seems like this game is gonna bomb big time

one week before release, it's still outside Amazon Top-10. Other major games released this year were in Top-10, 3-4 weeks before release date, even Star Wars: Outlaws which still turned out to be a flop

PC version is 91 and it is the one with most reviews.

Origins is a true CRPG, after that, Bioware only made Action RPGs
