Yikes. The difference between his paycheck projects and a labor of love like the Fall appears to be pretty blatant.

Mmmm.... that didn't look as cool as I hoped for.

Also where was the hot Transformers chick who plays Athena?

300 was ass. This actually looks much worse. I haven't seen The Fall but really enjoyed some of the imagery in The Cell.

Hmm, I'm not sure if the brown-ish color is from the trailer or if it's because it's shot off-tv. Will wait until the full trailer comes out online before making further judgment.

The Fall was a visual treat, but I can't say much about it beyond that. Going by the E! footage at the very least I'll be able to say the same of this.

They seem like they are trying a bit too hard to evoke 300 with the footage they decided to show. The rally the troops speech in particular was a huge turnoff.

Certainly not as intriguing as the trailer for The Fall.

Dammit why did I watch that trailer? Now I've got the urge to watch it again.

edit:

I just read the review I posted in the "movies" thread. Haha, I'll be damned if I didn't almost make the same mistake I made the first time I saw a trailer for The Fall.

Is this like a modern version of "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen"? Cuz that is one of my favorite movies.
Read my review above. I love The Adventures of Baron Munchausen as well and also got the same vibe from The Fall trailers. You will be disappoint.

This is easily MOTY.

However, I see it is another victim of the Marketing fart. This wasn't the full trailer that was showcased at Wondercon, more than two weeks ago.

Really? Not putting the trailer online so you can have it on E!, for a mere 30 seconds, with voice overs ruining the whole fucking thing, just spouting cast members? ( I doubt anyone cares and I doubt E! offers the same amount of potential audience as the fucking internet). And now, it's up online, in lower quality, and completely crap looking. Because of this, the real trailer is probably gonna go up in a few days. But it seems as if they never learn. Ah well

At least it has been given some exposure, unlike The Fall which was released quite inconspicuously and without much fanfare at all.

Agreed on all accounts.

When the speech footage was shown, I couldn't help but roll my eyes and cringe a little. If this is the exact same formula as 300: minimal story, huge amounts of testosterone, and a one hour movie made into a two hour one by slo-mo, I just can't take this movie seriously.

I doubt I'll see it anyway though.

I have noticed the frivolous use of slow motion too.
I would suggest however, to wait and see what the wondercon hype was all about. Some of the stuff shown was phenomenal. But your reaction is good, it shows that backward marketing can mislead audiences.

Sweet mother, why would you push the fact that it's from the producers of 300, when you've got the director from The Fall and The Cell to reference?

Because the mass market doesn't give a shit about a director of two movies that couldn't combine to hit half of what 300 did domestically? Not to mention DVD sales...

Is it wrong that I remember this guy as the dude that directed a bunch of popular music videos back in the 90's? :\

Movie kind of retains that feel.

I might catch it on Netflix just because I enjoy this kind of stuff; but yeah - trailer doesn't look all that hot. The Fall looks pretty cool though. A friend suggested it a while back, but I hadn't bothered to look into it.

They tried really hard to evoke a 300 vibe. Especially the whip scene.

That doesn't mean it will be Zack Snyder bad.

Spartacus TV also invoked the terribad 300 vibe in the first few episodes, but fortunately good writing and interesting characters redeemed it.

That trailer looks very disappointing after The Fall.
Well considering it's supposed to be a "sequel?" to that abomination from last year, I'm not surprised.
Not to mention that after watching Tim Burton get Disneyfied in Alice, I no longer trust even the outstanding directors to do their thing with holywood productions.

Sad thing is that at this rate they'll burn the audience out on Greek/Roman mythos 10 times over(God forbid we also get any Percy Jackson sequels... -_-) before God Of War even goes into prepro.

IAMROGUE

rogue pictures? I just watch THE WARRIOR'S WAY and if that's a measure of the post production quality + over quality - that film had (geoffrey rush + lois from superman returns) and ... was sort of terrible. It had a lot of CG/greenscreen but it looked cheapish

saw youtube. looks like a telemovie for lifetime.

+

who cast this guy.

Trailer looks jaw droppingly awesome. I don't know what you guys are talking about.

I guess it isn't as colorful as The Fall, but so what. Every shot was filled with original and interesting visual elements. I can't wait to see the gifs roll out once a proper HD trailer comes online.

This has nothing to do with Clash of the Titans, it‘s certainly not a sequel to it. Different myth altogether featuring Theseus not Perseus.

Well blame the marketing with calling it names like "Clash of the gods" then. Trailer impression is still sucky though.

Unlike you, i think
the lighthearted side of the story was a plus.
We have big, dramatic, exagerated set pieces and visuals, balanced out by a little "insignificant" story, which doesn't let it get overblown.
And it is an important part of the stuntman's character too, to get little depressing moments of his daily life, and give them an epic and dramatic tone, to "digest" them better.
I think it's a very intelligent and original take on what could have been just another epic hyperdramatic tale.
And on that note, i like the fact that, in the end, nothing really outstanding happens (in the real world).. just to underline, again, this aspect of him (the stuntman) being overly melodramatic about little bullshit; like the nurse that he likes, going out with another man, transormed into the story, as an epic tale of betrayal.
It's seriously one of my favorite movie ever.
Too bad this Immortals doen't look as good.

I actually like it, ugly brown filters aside. It looks artistic and while it look a tad on the boring side, I can see it being a better than Clash of the Titans.

Meh... I enjoyed the cell, and the fall, but something about this doesn't seem all that exciting to me. Obvious stylistic similarities to 300 aside, the movie seems to have some kind of weird stage feeling to it. It looks more like a play with CG than a movie. I'd like to be wrong though since I'll eventually be seeing this with my wife, who is a big Tarsem fan.

I thought it looked good. ATTACK ME IF YOU WILL!

I am sort of conflating what I know about Tarsem's directing style onto that material.
