At this point I am hoping the reviews make me believe.
Because right now, I do not believe.
Maybe the marketing is just shit.
They have a lot of good shots, and the story has an interesting premise.
Please god don't let this be shit.

Its a roll of the dice. Tarsem has two movies under his belt? But I do think his last one was really really good(although a bit long winded). His style/cinemtography is really what amazes me.

I don't even like Tarsem Singh's movies to be honest, they're just good visually for me. It's better to just watch them on mute and get high and listen to some ambient music or something. They're not exactly good films imo.

This just looks bad. Though I don't know who to blame, the studio was probably pushing a 300 aesthetic on him.

I'm a girl and I don't normally like these kinds of movies (my boyfriend can't understand why I don't care for Gladiator), but the bottom line is I had a great time watching this one.
She didn't like Gladiator.
Review invalidated.

Everything about this movie looks terrible, I don't understand why it had a (allegedly) good reception at comic-con. I also don't understand why the trailer has 9 million views on youtube, WTF?

If it turns out to be any good it'll be a huge surprise for me.
It's Tarsem.

Believe.

But real talk. My friend who is usually pretty smart saw a test screening and outside of some great Tarsem's visuals he said it was just mediocre.
This is all I watch Tarsem for.

Eh, that's the most I was hoping for anyway.

This movie looks so stupid, and the uninspired visuals do absolutely nothing for me. I dearly love Greek mythology...but there's nothing in the trailers that makes me want to see this.

Movie was actually cut for violence in the UK

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/BFF280029/

Cuts included removal of the bloody focus on a throat being cut, reducing the focus on young women dying, having been burnt, reducing the focus on eye gouging, removing the shot of a beheading, and reducing some focus on large splashes of blood resulting from characters being killed. Cuts were made in line with BBFC Guidelines and policy. An uncut 18 classification was available.

Is it me, or does anyone else think there was something weird about how that scene was cut?
Nah, me too. It's really poorly done. The guy that complained about the interior truck shots in TDK would probably get a brain aneurysm.

Maybe it's because it's a preview clip? Wouldn't be the first time I saw an exclusive clip on the Internet that was differently cut than the actual movie.

The trailer is one of the funniest movie trailers ive seen in a long time. looks like some sort of frat boys cosplaying greek mythology.

This movie has been terribly sold.
No matter how many commercials that I see, I have no idea what the fuck is going on and am not really given much reason to want to.
Hey look, slow motion action scene of some sort in front of terrible cgi backgrounds.
Oh look, another slow motion action sequence with some bellowing in front of terrible cgi backgrounds.
I am sure this will find some sort of crowd, the kind that usually stuffs themselves into tapout, affliction and various other similar types of tshirts and many many a drunken rental night but seriously poor advertising.

How comes that Tarsem suddenly relies on CGI anyway? I mean the sceneries were what made movies like the Fall worth watching.

Is this maybe some kind of producers "forced" movie?

I believe he financed The Fall so he had way more freedom there i would imagine.

I'm sure there's an official thread somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

Anyway, just saw the film tonight at an advanced screening. I thought it was really great. The story is nothing amazing, but its at least very coherent. I thought Rourke and Cavill both gave really good performances and were likable in their own completely different ways. Supporting actors like Pinto and Dorff also did a great job in their respective roles as well.

Going into it I had fears that the fight scenes wouldn't feel visceral and that everything would feel floaty like 300 did for me (fake CG blood that has no weight, in particular) but that wasn't the case. Even though the movie was R rated, it was much more violent than I expected coming from Tarsem - I was pleasantly surprised. One scene in particular -
where one of the gods intervenes to stop an outnumbered Theseus from getting killed by going around and smashing the heads of all the baddies with his hammer
- was particularly awesome to watch and yielded applause from the crowd afterwards.

While there is a lot of green screen, the production design elements play a huge role in shaping the world. All the individual costumes, helmets and environments are incredibly well done and deserve an Oscar nod. This won't be too surprising to those who've seen Tarsem's other works, though.

There isn't really a lot to be said about the film - there aren't any ambiguous loose ends
(although the end kind of sets up the potential for a sequel with his son, I guess)
and I don't feel like there's a lot to be debated story-wise. While it's not really like 300 in many ways (for one, the warriors have a much more believable/much less ridiculous physique) I think fans of 300 will also enjoy this: the fight scenes are great, there's a satisfying amount of visceral combat, the story's fine and it moves along at a good pace.

Thanks for the impressions.

There isn't an official thread yet and I don't think there's enough interest in the film to warrant one.

Is it as visually stunning as The Fall?

I really liked the fall for some reason the whole time i watched it i always thought it was a prettier Baron Munchhausen. Will wait for reviews and on this, but i like the director.

It'd be nice if the second picture actually looked like that in the movie. Surprised at the positive impressions so far, this looks terrible to me on every level. That clip with the minotaur was one of the worst things I've seen in a movie in several years.

Mmm...not quite. I think the fact that The Fall was shot in actual locations, whereas Immortals has a fair amount of green screen makes it hard to be as beautiful. I also think the more fanciful nature of The Fall lends itself to a greater push towards beauty.
