Wes, are the flags coming back?

I haven't brought it up with the admins yet, who are the only people who can issue tags. Honestly, they caused so much hassle last time for myself and WasabiKing, that I'm fretful about doing it again. One of my "other ways to contribute" suggestions was going to be someone running a WorldCupify your avatar thread where at basic levels someone could simply add a small flag to their avatar - or they could do something more extravagant that incorporates the flag (like photoshop face paint on to their avatar's face or something...)

I had even thought about doing this programmatically via another site. I may still do this.

Short answer: We'll see, but 99% sure they wont make a return as they did last time.

Testing the resolve of a player returning from injury is different to a player getting a knock in a game though.

Ultimately with an injury its down to whether the player thinks he can carry on or not. From what I saw, Wilshere thought he could carry on. So why is that Hodgson's fault for letting him? Hodgson doesn't have x-ray eyes that can see he has a broken foot.
I think what you're failing to consider is the context of the game. It was an international friendly, not a competitive game. As such, it's reasonable to expect a greater level of precaution.

And while a player's response does play a part in influencing managerial decisions, I don't think it absolves responsibility.

lol, fucking dark theme plebs

50ppp, white theme, the way gaf-browsing is supposed to be done.

Amen, brother.

Bad taste gaf

why does that kid turn into a grown man

how the FUCK can anyone use that horrific white theme? it's so fucking bright

Great taste gaf

Jesus, the white theme is crap. It's so bright.

This is incredibly shortsighted.

So you're saying it isn't Wilshere's fault for carrying on? I know Arsenal fans expect their players to be wrapped in cotton wool and flown to Thailand for a Thai massage after every game but come on. If Wilshere had said he wanted to come off then he would've been taken off. But he decided to carry on, so he's only got himself to blame.

So whilst the residue of the international break is still somewhat looming in the air I thought I'd mention a thing I'd like to do for the World Cup thread this year:

As lots of GAFers tune in to watch teams or even a sport they normally don't I wanted to make some relatively small guides for each nation. Fluffy stuff such as this (these are just examples):

- Their history.
- How they qualified.
- Style of football/Tactical formation they play.
- Potential starting XI.
- Players to watch out for.

Instead of me writing all of these up I thought I'd garner interest on whether I could collect 32 members to contribute to make these instead. As an added twist I'd like the guides to be from people who aren't natives of that country (eg. I could write the guide for South Korea but not England) so that their opinion is formed as a neutral outsider looking in - just as all the GAF members will be when it's posted in the thread.

You wouldn't have to physically do any writing until the middle/end of May when the squads will be announced. I'm just collecting names and gathering interest now. I'll sort out a selection procedure later for each nation (it'll likely be purely random - names plucked from a hat).

So if you're interested say so now. I'll bring it up again couple of times between now and May for anyone else who wants to get involved but missed this message.

Likewise, I have ideas for other things related to the World Cup thread which I may ask for help with so don't feel like this is the only way you can contribute. Again, this is meant to be a fun thing. If it brings up any kind of conflict of any kind between members I'll just do them all myself.

Thanks for reading,
Wes.

Odd and I can do Japan. I have some knowledge on Korea as well.

I could do Korea

Republic of Kirea

South Korea, famous for North Korea, is the country where Ki Seung-Yeung was born and raised, playing football most of his days.

I'm not a fan of the "neutral" requirement. It's the WC, a little nationalism won't hurt! Plus, for the smaller nations you're going to end up sacrificing informativeness for neutrality. And it will probably a bit more bland as a result too.

Don't be afraid of my Russian propaganda, Wes!

There's someone on their national team called Dong-Gook. Can you tell me about his strengths and weaknesses please? Cause I kind of want to support Dong-Gook.

He's the Korean Altidore. Played for 'Boro a couple of dozen times. Never scored. Now plays for Hyundai's Sunday League team.

I'd love to help Wes! Hopefully the time zone will help get more people interested here. Here's hoping for a spectacle!

Off to see The Wind Rises. I had to cancel last time. :'(

On a final note, why is Shinkai doing Z-kai commercials? Please give me something more definite soon.

I'm not too sure about that.

I think the reason Archer works so well is because it's a cartoon.
