For The First Time In A Decade, Xbox Is Call Of Duty's Most Popular Platform

"It's about being accessible in more places, and there's no real platform out there today, other than what we're doing with Xbox [Game Pass] that isn't really per-device," Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said

Is this how they are defining Xbox to get to this milestone? Congratulations.

No.

You're comparing previous sales data with this year's engagement data after giving away your game to ~20 million players at no additional cost.
... so more people are playing Call of Duty on Xbox for the first time in a decade, then? Title wasn't "Call of Duty sells more on Xbox" or "Call of Duty makes more money on Xbox". Reads like you're arguing a point no one else is.

First COD I've been interested in since the original MW series and I'm actually really enjoying it. I've barely played anything else since its release.

I've heard the single player is great! For someone that doesn't play multiplayer this seems like a good enough value/reason to try out Gamepass esp. if it clocks in around 8 to 10 hours for the story.
No add on sales from folks just interested in the story, but does that bother them? They have indiana jones right behind CoD...driving more single player hours so they don't need the CoD single player...uh...players to stay in CoD.

Lifetime performance no longer matters...its all about those monthly engagement numbers now.

i would be more surprised if Xbox wasn't the most popular platform.
There aren’t that many Ultimate subscribers on Xbox, total sub count is around 30 mil and that’s all the tiers and PC Gamepass included.

But one could question if by ”Xbox” they actually mean any device with access to the Xbox app. I play it on PC. Is that an Xbox now? Yes it is going by their ad. Then it’s easy to understand that ”Xbox” is the biggest platform.

I've no idea how many ultimate subscribers there are, but i doubt more Xbox gamers bought it than just sub for a month or 2 to play it, how many Ultimate subscribers are there?.

i'm a PC only player, and my PC is not an Xbox, i don't use the Windows Store for my games.

I still can't believe they made it all the way to 6

My excitement for CoD died when Warzone released. It just hasn't been the same since.

Even with 2 months subs I doubt that Xbox consoles are the biggest platform. I just can’t see it even if this is cross gen so Xbox One and Series are included.
I think they’re adding up all the devices where the app can be accessed like in the ”This is an Xbox” ad.

Side note, no Microsoft Store user here either, I just add the Gamepass games into Steam. I only use the Xbox app to click install then I add them to Steam. And then fish out the art from within the game folder to make the library look nicer, there are small library icon art and splash screens etc. Works well enough to not want to purchase Gamepass games.

You could well be right, it's what Microsoft does after all, as you well know as do i, they took the Xbox name out of the PC app to try and suggest it was different, but it wasn't lol, and

Exactly, we want control of our files to use them how we want, and i use mods constantly, MS want's too much control and that can stay on Xbox for me.

It's included as part of a subscription of course the numbers are going to be higher on the Xbox platform (cloud, console and perhaps the windows store).

It would be interesting to know what kind of subscription numbers they would need to actually make a profit on a game like Call of Duty if it was platform exclusive, especially when you factor in other games that come to the platform.

Seems like they consider GamePass to mean Xbox, so I assume they're just lumping Xbox and PC together.

Which is true, I suppose.

PC Gamepass is classed as Xbox btw, Steam and Battlenet PC players don't have an Xbox icon next to their name, only PC Gamepass users, it has an Xbox/PC icon.

Completely Unreasonable
I wonder if Gamepass has grown or if it's all existing gamepass players flocking to COD.

Snake oil Phil strikes again:
"It's about being accessible in more places, and there's no real platform out there today, other than what we're doing with Xbox [Game Pass] that isn't really per-device,"

Also if you look on the article itself he never says Xbox has the most users for this game, feels like quick fud. Stephen Totillo did the original interview and it's paywalled on his substack

I'm playing via Game pass PC. Not sure if they include those since they have an Xbox icon with the PC tower.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

How to not read the OP and have a knee jerk reaction 101.

We saw cod jog back and forth between consoles it happens all the time I think COD going PlayStation during 14, 15, 16 etc (PS4 era) was a gigantic deal.

And all they had to do was put it on a 20 dollar/month subscription service and eat into actual sales!

Congratulations, you have now ensured that even the most casual players will never buy games on Xbox going forward.
That’s pretty much the point. They want you on gamepass. People on PlayStation will still pay full price.

The skins are like $25, people on gamepass will buy skins. It’s not rocket science.

That's all good, but if one day my shitbox literally becomes an Xbox.....then there are a lot sites across the internet that owe me an apology and an un-ban.
