Forza Horizon demo impressions

What do you mean finished the demo, is it time limited, one race..... Talk to us

its 5 (or 6?) races and you can drive around in a small open world section. no time limit and almost every race offers a rival race after you finished it the first time. pretty good demo in terms of content. by finished i mean i did all the races.

Game is fantastic. Once you've finished all the events you can free roam the demo area, as well. Really fun just driving around.

Visuals look great, and the AA is a noticeable step-up from Forza 4.

Had to tear myself away, but want to save myself for the full game.

Which cars can you drive in the free roam?

That you very much :-)

It's so pretty!!!

Nice little bonus of a gift car for playing the demo too.

Edit: oh wow I already have rivals in the demo from my friends list too.

Wow, I thought this game was going to suck and I loved the demo, I ended up playing the game for around 40 minutes, I like the way the cars control and the graphics are super clean. Seriously, normally ps3 / 360 games look awful on my PC's monitor and Horizon looked amazing on it.

Not even downloading now I'm just going to wait.

Turned the music off and swapped cockpit for bumper cam, now I can concentrate on driving the experience is much closer to what I was hoping for.

Love the way the wheel shakes when the plane flies by.

Demo is great. Feels like it's a good representation of what the final product will be. Even though I've seen the Mustang VS Mustang race, it was still an intense run. The Camera shake when the plane buzzes past is a nice touch. I like how it serves up a rival race as soon as you finish your current race. Full game can't come soon enough.

Music is awesome, even if the soundtrack was quite obviously decided by some marketing suits. It's like a whos-who of advertising soundtracks. :P

The music wasn't bad but a little overwhelming, the game is so much busier than FM, once I get used to the pace of the game I'll stick it back on.

While sitting here typing that out the day has turned to night, nice to see the demo showing off what it can do!

Just a fantastic demo.

You can see the lessons from other games in the genre coming over.

Looks fantatstic, handles great, cars feel different, great social integration. I even used the gps voice commands.

Bring on the 23rd.

Some more thoughts on the demo: It's really easy to tell what roads you have driven, which is nice for those of us that want to drive all of them. I found a discount sign, smash it to receive 1% discount on upgrades. There seems to be 100 of them so I assume upgrades will eventually be free. I like how if you drive by a discount sign the map is updated with it's location. I drove by a couple during a race and it was nice touch to easily get back to them. I tried out the kinect GPS feature, I like it. Really simple to use with onscreen keywords. I just wish there was a way to get rid of the text and icon that say "Say GPS". I did it once, that prompt should go away now. The plasma owner in me hates it.

The IQ is so damn good, everything looks jaggy free.

I like the sat nav telling you the main ways to turn, better then glancing at the map constantly.

Soooooooooooo.......

I get home, its in my active downloads :)

But it says it's assigned to another console.......

Played this for about 5 minutes before I had to go, but I really liked what I played.

Looks great.

Make sure when you download it you say All Downloads so that in the future it is the Xbox of choice when you remote download.

The handling feels REALLY weird... like, there's no weight to any of the cars or something. Or there's not the right amount of contact with the road. I'm not sure how much of the FM4 driving model/physics were brought over, but IMO it feels NOTHING like FM4 with all assists off... at least, not with a controller.

The whole "open world" thing is a bit of an overstatement too, it seems. I gasped when I finally saw a bit that it looked like I might be able to drive over (a place that wasn't fenced off but quite hilly) and I hit an invisible wall :( It's definitely less TDU-style "open world" and more Burnout Paradise/NFS:HP-style "open road".

As it is, unless someone can tell me why the handling is a bit shit and how it can be fixed (there were certainly enough controller tweaking options) then I'd love to hear it.

Oh, and that fucking piss filter. Codemasters want it back.

Is it me or is the diffculities much tigher/preform better then Forza 4. Had it on the highest diffucility and was having a blast in the car they give you to free rom in driving through the dirt roads with it as a manual.

I think it takes your save file for the diffucilities, cause mine was on Medium when I was doing the races. It just felt really weird and tight, but not tight. It was a very odd feeling. That's why I experimented after I got to free roam.

What cars are in the demo? I'll do a side by side comparison for a car since I play with assist off.

I liked the demo and the premise of the game. I honestly didn't really know much going into the demo as I haven't followed the threads on this game since it was announced. The graphics are nice and I like that you can kind of cruise around and notice the procession of time. I think this game shows a lot of promise. It's convinced me I may have to pick this up by the end of the year.

2013 Dodge Viper, Ford Mustang (muscle era sorry I'm not sure what year), and a Mitsubishi Evo were usable during the demo. Oh, and whatever car you start off with first. I think it's a current gen Mustang. I am sure others will be more descriptive than I. :(

Since this game like a forza take on PGR and a few other open road racing games I find the handling is a great blend of what forza can do and a little more control at high speed, not to call it arcade because it's not but it's different, it feels real nice to me like the evo grips well and the viper will slide out when trying to do too much with it in corners.

On the map to the bottom left and top right there are two sets of road which seem visible but no way to get to them, I think the left one is from the plane race because it's in the rocky area.

I think you started with the Viper, didn't you? AFAIK there were only three cars driveable in the demo.

I don't think so, because I've always driven (at least, in the last 10 months or so) with zero assists in FM4 yet this started me with "medium" as well. TBH I didn't give it a chance *with* assists, but without it just felt really bizarre. Like, there was usually to much understeer with the cars (until the beefier Viper and Mustang strangely snapped into oversteer all of a sudden). Just... yeah, never really felt right. Certainly didn't feel like FM4 on a pad.

Transition is nice, but the Lancer feels like it has WAY too much understeer on the gravel. I'm not sure why, I thought it would've been taily as a motherfucker.

But thinking about it... yeah, the cars never really felt like they had weight for some reason. It's getting near bedtime, but I will definitely give it a side-by-side crack with FM4 (to the best of my ability).

Derp you're right! Just 3 playable cars I did start out in the viper. On my second play through I paid more attention in what I was in. I usually start in bumper cam view so I really didn't bother to look my first time through.
