Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 Will Require a Microsoft Account to Play

Are Microsoft going to be complete shithouses with all their first party PlayStation games?

I’m not going to need to deal with this crap on Doom am I?
Age of mythology didn't require it unless you wanted cross play on so I linked my Microsoft Hotmail account to it. We gotta boost those Xbox CCU numbers boy's!

It's only an issue when sony does it.
Nearly every 3rd party does it, but never a peep.
Because Sony royally fucked up when they post launch implemented it for Helldivers 2. Remember people freaking out when there were skins locked behind a PSN account in Miles Morales?

Microsoft gonna boast that engagement Numbers in the next performance report
I think it is more for services integration. The uploading of car builds, paint jobs, online leaderboards, and group challenges. The best parts of the game are online in the form of custom tracks and the previously mentioned.

P.S. It is weird that this does not have cross progression though...

I think all these forced logins are pretty retarded, no matter who's doing it. Shit just seems completely unnecessary, and I think it should always at least be optional. They should just give like a free car if you sign up with a Microsoft account or some shit, it'd probably still fluff their numbers appropriately while also not pissing everyone off.

it would need more than a free car I think.
Forza Horizon 5 basically buries you in cars through wheelspins.
it's actually almost a cause for criticism towards the Horizon series, as cars feel less and less special since you get buried in them and in money to buy them with.

it would need to be an extremely popular but also extremely hard to get car...
like the Lamborghini Aventador J... but that's more rare than popular.
the GTR R35 Nismo maybe...

Game pass is next
Lol, so what your saying is instead of staying the course and getting people to buy their games again, they are going to force a subscription model on everyone that alreadt virtually killed the Xbox brand.

A smart move, wouldn't put it passed them

At least there’s cross play and shared leaderboards as an easy explanation for requiring a Microsoft account.
Ah there you are. Cross play totally HAS to have a MS online account…. Conveniently forgetting the game has a single. player portion now locked behind that online account requirement.

Hard to justify the requirement for a PSN account for PC ports of games like GOW Ragnarok and Spiderman 2.
What about PSN Trophies? Forgot the drama with a small online PvE game called HellDivers 2? No you did not, but conveniently left it out ;).

The single-player in Forza Horizon has been online since like Forza Horizon 2 on the Xbox One eleven years ago. The "SP" uses the same map as MP so there can be seamless jumping into a MP race. All race opponents are Drivatars based on people on your friends list. It's not a traditional SP racing game at all.

I obviously prefer it not being it there, but having to sign in once per game (or install) is not a big deal. Entering a username and password once (and maybe an extra security step) is not an issue. I've had to sign in games already for Microsft, like Gears 5, Grounded etc

The problem that occurred with the PSN sign in is that it blocked entire countries from playing, which sucks. I don't think a Microsoft account would be as restrictive considering Window's reach, but I don't know for sure, but hopefully not.

Does this allow cross save, settings and progress or is it literally a bullshit move to grow MAUs?

It's an online GaaS like Sea of Thieves. So I imagine so. Which means I won't be buying it on the Pro. I finished the festival and last expansion in 2023 and uninstalled it then. No use paying again for a game I won't go back to. I also have Crew Motorfest on the Pro, which is basically Temu Forza Horzion so if I want to play a similar game on the Pro I have that.

No cross save nor cross progress but cross play. Which is in their FAQ. Come on Mana, you usually defend the big U.S. corpo with more research :p.

Then I'll play through it again on the Pro. Only wasn't going to get it if it transferred the save over. I know it's hard for some people to grasp on this forum that people can have more than one console.

I feel sorry for Ubisoft since once it's on the PS5 people will see how much of a bad copy Motorfest is of it.

Well, you certainly need an account of sorts for crossplay, carrying liveries across etc. It's pretty much the same as Minecraft and that's been a thing for years.

Feel free to skip the game if it pains you that much. Or cry. :messenger_grinning:

Helldivers 2 launched without the requirement for a PSN account, and added it later. Made it tough for folks who didn't have PSN support in their country too. That's what led to the furor. I didn't include that because I thought that was obvious and a one off case.

There was way more rancor for SP games with that requirement, and the fact that Sony had to delist games from countries that didn't support PSN.

They said they would have it but had to remove it and told people it would come back. I do not have a huge problem with the MS account myself, but I was not putting up a huge fight in the Sony PC titles PSN login requirement thread :p. Feeling guilty much ;)?

Jez has gone from being a "hard hopium from fanboys" in a year to being happy that FH5 is coming out on PS5 and having to log in, how the guy adapts lol
