Forza Motorsports early previews

Lighting and environments seem below GT7's but there's RT, so maybe that's why

Sound is excellent as usual
Environments are a massive step up from GT7 or any other sim, and the lighting is very close (some tod looks better some tod look worse).

Was going to post about this after bumping into that video preview on YouTube, sounds and looks fantastic, gawd damn.

Haven't been this hyped for Forza in yeeeeears.

Do they mean that it is expensive or that it is locked by a leveling system on every individual car? If it is the latter... that is insane!
I watched some Forza youtuber, I forget which one. He was saying each car would take like 4-8 hours to fully level up. That you can't use what you earn on one car and put it towards another.
But I think even he wasn't 100% sure of the details. So take with a grain of salt.

Looks like they delivered on the advancements in AI and physics as well as real time time of day and weather.
As well as the much doubted in gameplay RT.
Finally seeing what the Series X can do.

Not quite in line with what they promised, which was originally the basis of your expectations.

They've already shown us gameplay footage so not worried by test screens, expecting 4k 60 with RT and the latest iteration of hardware Tier 2 VRS.

Forza Motorsport, 4k 60 FPS, on track RT.
Next gen only games will show the potential soon.

Watched Super GTs take on the gameplay.

Damn. Said a lot of depressing things. Physics feel the same as Forza 7, Lift off meta is STILL in the game.....

Ai bunching up, driving directly behind each other clueless.

Doesn't feel as good as GT7.

Sigh...

Depends on the track tbh. GT7 tracks have great environments but ones made for Sport are a bit lacking.
GT7 does indeed have nice looking tracks especially Watkinsin Glen and Trial Mountain but they all have static 2d trees with ok looking track side detail. Just look at the Maple Valley footage with 100s of fully detailed 3d trees letting the sunrays shinning tru. Just like Mugello filled with tons of trees and detail on track. And than you have the micro detail on track which is Forza Horizon quality that was never featured in a racing sim. This is clearly a step above those tracks in GT7. And im someone who has almost 200h in GT7 playing on a big OLED with proper HDR which looks stunning.

All you can do is try it for yourself. |He's always been a Forza hater. The few positive things he does say are killing him to say them.

Wasn't comparing them directly, just pointing out certain ones are much better. The 2D trees don't bother me as long as they look good and they do make the accurate with light pass through and reflection, that sheen certain leaves have in the sun.

But yeah it could be better.

Just watching the official video and it looks like the AI is still bad, why do they keep braking at random moments? They were always brake checking you in the previous Forza games. Real racers want to win the race, not just brake because the player is behind them or touched them.

I wouldn't call him a Forza hater. He's very similar to me in the fact that we've always enjoyed Forza until GT sport and then 7 completely blew it out of the water for SIM feel and online competitive racing.

They've had 6 years to at least get it on par but it's looking like a disappointment yet again.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, MS need to purchase Kunos.

yeah fuck that

Consolidation is already bad for one, we dont need another developer being gobbled up by MS. Kunos and most of these other PC sim developers have no clue when it comes to making an actually fun campaign or career mode, which is why Forza and GT are still relevant despite PC sims being "wAy MoRe AcCuRaTe"

Dan Greenawalt said in an interview that the preview version people are playing is about a month old. So things like AI still slamming into your car, and going off track, has been fixed.

Thats nice to hear because most of the video's looked like the ai was hitting the player left and right.

They'd do well to disclose that more next time. A date of the build on the title screen would help.

Anyways, I'm excited. Still want to see how the CarPG system works out as no one's tried that in a racer before...

So they had six years but wait till the last few weeks to fix the AI 🤔 I don't know how game development works but that seems strange.

I guess we'll have to wait for the impartial reviews of the final game to get the true story as usual with Microsoft.

Cant wait.

First time I did online racing was one of the old Forza games on 360. Matches included partied friends. Screw you guys, I'm ramming you guys around corners to win! LOL. Fuck, everyone is taking the game so serious like it's real life. I'm plowing my way to finish line!

Cautiously optimistic about the game. FM7 was……ok? Nothing great. I've enjoyed the 80 or so hours I've sunk into GT7, so looking forward to getting back on the other side of the track (get it) and see what Forza has to offer.

I hope so but don't know how many times we have heard the "it's an old build and fixed for launch" line and it wasn't

I was also not buying there "its a old build" pr talk till today after seeing those visual upgrades over the older console builds. Its better to wait and see what the final build gonna do with the ai before judging.

I really like how the game looks from a visual perspective. It's less colorful and more realistic and kind of dull looking when compared to FH5.

It reminds me of GT4's realistic style look and i really liked the look of that one too. Maybe it might be "last gen" looking to some people but for me I can see a definite improvement over FM7.

Starting to wonder if there actually were visual upgrades over older console builds or we were just not seeing the full picture/the game looking a lot better in motion than we imagined

Naw, the in game RT and SSGI where not in the previous build, also the shaders in the cockpit and pop in is much much improved over those older builds.

4K is ruining fidelity in gaming.

It's an interesting point, although I don't agree in terms of this game since I think it looks fantastic.

The point on resolution isn't lost though, if your watching a TV show or movie at 720p or 1080p, it looks "real" because it is. To that point, a game targeting 720 or 1080p could look more "real" regardless of resolution. I'd love to see what a developer could do targeting a lower resolution on purpose with this in mind.

In June 2022 they promised RT on Series S. Again it seems like they make the bold promises first and then figure out if they can actually keep them, later.

Going by that tweet at least, they don't seem to specifically mention RT during gameplay for the S. When companies "promise" using marketing language, always expect the worst case scenario.

Yes that's what I thought, they can just say 'oh we meant photo mode, did you think we meant gameplay!' Plausible deniability, shady sales tactics and Turn 10 go hand in hand, unfortunately.

Not only that there's slowdowns galore.

Could be his setup but press x to doubt on his ability to record a video.

Here you can see the visuals are definitely a huge leap over 7 at least.

That side by side is massive!!

Is part of the reason FM7 looks worse here that the lighting is a different time of day? FM7 was known for being a dull game overall (I mean lighting / weather) especially compared to FM5 which had impressive lighting 10 years ago. (I like the simple clear HUD of FM5 as well, the minimap is clearer for example.) Can't show Maple Valley in FM5 because it didn't return until FM7.

By the time of FM7 the graphics and lighting were downgraded so everything looks flat.

The physics are completely overhauled, whomever that poster is referring to they don't seem to have a clue what they're talking about. From windows central.
How does Forza Motorsport (2023) feel to play? Well, it feels incredible. This is the most refined, responsive, and consistent handling I have ever experienced in a racing game, and it forced me to look at each car as if I was actually driving it, to not just master each vehicle but also to learn every corner and segment of the tracks. It's genuinely an awesome driving experience, which should be at the core of any racing game worth its salt.

I'd trust a known sim racer to tell me how the handling feels over some windows central journalist I don't know that might have not played a racer since need for speed in the 90s.

Just look at GAF's Immortals of Aveum topics.

Lots of snide remarks about "720p, what is this the PS3 gen?"

Most users don't care about fidelity, they just care about the raw pixel count.

OK mate, the video showing the vastly improved tyre physics is also nonsense is it? According to the trusted sim racer it's exactly the same as Forza 7 even though the video shows otherwise 🤣
