Production is great for the most part. Can't shake off how cheesy it sounds, with the hooks, some of those verses; considering the theme of the album and the fact that its a movie soundtrack, it makes sense. Kendrick does a good job, minus the screaming. Pretty much what I expected overall.

To be fair, Dre's last two albums had cheesy moments as well. Pause 4 Porno and The Doctor's Office :/. Dre been doing random shit on his albums since the NWA days.

Shit is boring and that's the worst thing I can say about it. Kendrick verses are the only enjoyable ones and everything just sounds corny (Dr's orders go fuck yourself) really nigga? Production is fine I guess.

I mean, yeah. But he's super rich now, it's his goodbye album with Apple hype around it and all.. Why feature unknown people in there 😞

Because he knows people will listen to it anyway so he's using it as an opportunity for dudes like Justus to catch on. There's a pretty decent mix anyway, you still have Xzibit, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick.

Saw this earlier in the thread too; I really don't think Dre cares to push new artists or is even motivated like that. Dude has done records with literally everyone in the industry or outside. Whatever makes it, makes it.

I simply can't think of any other reason for a dude like Justus to be on here.

What the hell, this album is mad dense sonically. It feels like there's a new beat or layer or sound effect every 16 bars.

Unfortunately the rapping and vocals are kinda :scust: and unmemorable aside from the OGs. This thing needs Nate Dogg badly.

R.I.P.

I feel like that's just whoever he was recording with at the time this project started taking shape. Like, it could have been Kyle if it was the wrong month.

Just started listening. Not really liking anything thus far, but the Justus kid hasn't jumped out to me as being especially offensive. I mean, he's doing better than Kendrick thus far if that Genocide verse is any indication.

I don't know what folks are expecting from this album. Dre is 50, Cube and Snoop are in their 40s, and Dre haven't dropped anything since 1999. Of course it's going to sound dated in some areas, but it's still flames.

It's not the fact that it sounds dated, it's the fact that it's just boring (and it would had been boring if it were released a decade ago)

How it sounds boring compared to the "AOTY" DS2? The production on point, the rhymes are straight, and the flow of the album is on point. It's pretty much a Dr. Dre album with all the bells and whistles.

DS2 is in stores now though

LOL, you sound hurt already. Most of us already stated our reasons, just deal that 50 year old Dre doesn't have it in him to put out anything more than a decent movie soundtrack.

It just sounds...rushed. You have Dr. Dre on this album, who sounds like he is reading his verses off the Notes app on his iPhone 6 Plus while trying to find cheap features on Soundcloud on his Mac (all provided to him by Apple) and at first, he tries to put some effort into his raps, but then he realizes "Hey now, I'm rich and I'm set for life, I don't have to rap for fame or money anymore", so he just went home and recorded the raps in his sleep (since he has a problem with talking during his sleep). You have all of these other rappers on here, both old and new, who "have something to say" (which just comes off as corny, besides one Kendrick verse) and honestly, I don't give a shit what Snoop Dogg or Ice Cube have to rap about in 2015

There's no heart to this album (which isn't shocking, since it's the soundtrack to a movie) and at least with DS2, there is heart in it

EDIT: Speaking of DS2, it's in stores now

Fair enough, but Dre usually let the features speak for themselves. Nobody buys a Dre album expecting him to spit some out of this world stuff. Dude is more of the narrator, while the rappers on the album play their roles.

Maybe I'm "dusty" because I prefer an album that feels complete, than a "hot joint" that'll barely get remembered by 2016....and I actually liked DS2.

Can't listen, don't have an Apple Music account.

On a scale of white-high-schooler-trying-to-do-a-freestyle-to-Power-2-years-after-it-actually-came-out to white-college-kid-trying-to-sound-like-Drake, how good is Justus?

Resisting the drip drip. Pre ordered the album after hearing he was donating proceeds to building the art institute.
Not sure what to expect but the people whose opinions are actually valid seem to like it so I'm optimistic.

I keep forgetting that Game can spit.

Game is a really really good emcee, he can go off when he wants to. He just has something about him that is unlikable so it's hard to remember sometimes.

We will see with Documentary 2, remember his last album was terrible.

Just finished listening. Man, I'm a massive Dre stan but this ain't it. Few thoughts:

1) Dre verses feel weird. He's rapping too fast or in cadences that take away the presence his voice usually has. The lyrics themselves can get kind of good sometimes but often it just sounds like Dre is spitting some generic raps.
2) Lots of seemingly wasted Marsha Ambrosious features.
3) Production is sometimes boring, but other times it's on point. I don't think it's dated, dude has a signature sound and is interpreting it in different ways just like he did with 2001, and it's the most divergent it's ever been. Ultimately it's not the beats that make it disappointing, but that it isn't filled front to back with great songs. Do I blame Dre? Do I blame everything being themed around a biopic of an already well documented group and time in his life?
4) Shout outs to Dre making a skit out of him shooting at his ex-wife. SMH.
5) Cube's "today was a good day" line kind of makes you really aware how weird this project is. Rhymes inspired by a movie about themselves.
6) Doesn't impress me until Deep Water halfway through the album. Keepers are probably Deep Water, One Shot One Kill, For The Love Of The Money, Animals and maybe Just Another Day.
7) Eminem verse isn't that bad. Dude is mostly carrying one idea/story through an entire verse, and that's something we only really see from old/early Em.
8) Autotune/voice effects pop up when you want them least.
