It’s the coward’s way out, and I think reflects poorly on the poster applying it, as a transparent attempt to socially pressure out those opinions, rather than engaging with them.

This is a good point. The overuse of it in PolGAF is absolutely infuriating. I try to avoid it unless I find something genuinely funny. I think we can all hold ourselves to the high standard of not using it for nefarious purpose here. We have a good community in this thread. It's grown so much over the past year or so and it's always the first thing I read on the internet. Let's all be friends and air our disagreements out in the open without the need for fuckery and backstabbery. Laughing emoji? No! I'm drunk. Triple post apologies.

No, Donkey Konga came out first. DK became Nintendo’s attempt to cash in on the music fad back then. He didn’t get a legit release that generation. It was a pathetic attempt to cash in on the guitar hero craze.

Very happy to see Nintendo is doing better here in the UK. Lots of my friendship group have bought Switches in the past year.

The Switch has reached mainstream appeal. My wife's friends are buying it for Animal Crossing, and branching out to other games. My brother-in-law bought 3 of them for himself and his kids. It's nice to see.

I enjoyed the games of that era, how much fun Iwata made it all, with his shenanigans and amazing Iwata Asks, and I’m glad I was able to cast my mindset in a positive direction, but those were some dark times for Nintendo.

It took three years but eventually Nintendo released enough evergreen titles to hit critical mass. Animal Crossing was the straw that broke the camel's back.

It’s to be expected. It’s a console OT, shielded from outside fanboy wars that have embittered everyone, and has become a utopia for a positive discussion. A natural consequence of that is artificial boosts for games that could... really use more criticism, and negative reactions to seeing that done.

It’s a nice challenge, and I think worthy use of time, to try and establish a critical tone where one is warranted, and to, inch by inch, actually get people to talk about the positives and negatives of a first party game.

Plus, getting to call out smiley crew, is something I’ve wanted to do for a while. Similar uphill fight. But adding a small picture to a post one doesn’t like (not to be confused with a low quality one), is not an argument. On politics or gaming. It’s a way of running from confrontation, instead of meeting it head-on, or providing anything of substance in return.

There are times when I post elsewhere and people click laugh and I can tell they mean it in a laughing at you/saying your thoughts are so wrong they are laughable vs laughing with you way. I do see it becoming a problem in other threads. I don't think anyone here is doing that. Small minded people beget small things.

I try to be really fair here. There are a lot of things I think Nintendo could do better and I'm always honest about that. I think most in the thread are fair in their criticisms. In the case of Three Houses though I do have to disagree with you-I thought it was phenomenal through and through. I could talk a little bit about how Edelgard's route was a little too short or removal of the weapon triangle but overall I just really enjoyed it. If you didn't enjoy FE then I totally understand and think that is valid. People have different tastes.

It clearly benefitted from the 2020 shenanigans, but it has outsold all competitors, and been making history for years before that.

It’s because of Nintendo’s good work over the past three years, that it was in the right place to achieve that kind of desirability during lockdown.

I think your favorite AC will always be your first. There’s nothing like the sheer magic of discovering it all for the first time.

That said, I feel like AC/GC has... something about it, that still makes it stand apart to this day. Part of it is that AC modernized the longer it went on, and there’s a real nostalgic, rural feeling to the original that the others lack. I struggle with defining the rest of it.
