Ooooh, I see. A lot of people here are scared of credit card info being stolen. Amusing.
When did I say people should complain about it?
My honest reaction was "so what?" Why not just buy the games straight off of Steam, etc. That's not to say I didn't understand why it is a good thing, but I didn't understand why everyone was quite this excited.

No reason to walk into a Gamestop. Valve could at least sell it to other retailers like Best Buy, Amazon and Walmart too. Wonder what will happen to Impulse now?
I can see these cards selling for less on ebay than msrp easily.

Kind of cool people can use GameStop giftcards and used games towards Steam now essentially.
I won't personally be taking part in any of this because as a grown adult, I can buy Steam games directly, and any physical games I buy are through Amazon, so I look to keep my money out of Gamestop's hands, but cool for those who don't have a healthy hatred for the company as I do.

The good part about it to me is that - assuming someone is both a console and gaming pc owner - instead of only trading in your console games for store credit and buying used console games where only GameStop is making any profit, you now have the ability to trade in console games for what is effectively Steam credit. This way GameStop gets their little bit, Valve gets their little bit, but most importantly the Developer/Publisher/Actual people involved with making the games are making more money. Now, obviously this won't always be the case - it may not even be the majority situation - but I can't see it as anything other than good.

None of my family members have steam accounts, and won't simply hand me cash as a holiday gift.
They will give giftcards though.

Not everyone has a credit card or want to put one on the account. My kid has his own steam account but do you think I would be stupid enough to put my CC info on it! This way I could give him this as a gift like I do with his Xbox points and he can buy whatever he wants.

Shit happens. It would be pretty stupid to let one bad event prevent someone from purchasing anything online in the future. Hell, I do my banking online - should I stop doing that, too? My bank can get broken into, and my password can get stolen. No matter what you do, your info is out there electronically somewhere. Important info. I don't understand the irrational fear over purchasing things online.

Dunno about him, but in my case, I'm sitting on a bunch of trade-in credit and a couple of unused Gamestop gift cards right now, so... yes? (GS doesn't currently allow you to apply gift cards toward their direct download stuff for some bizarre reason.)

I don't use Creditcards on services at all. I just don't trust it. Old fashioned or paranoid? Maybe, but I found that I can also take better control over my expenses by using prepaid cards and vouchers.
So yes, this would make me get into Steam.

To bad you are more interested in trying to look cool with a dumb reply then actually understanding that this will benefit Steam users a lot. I can now give Valve my gamestop in store credit money rather then it all going to gamestop and now people can buy me these pre-paid steam cards for gifts instead of other crappy presents.

Cause Steam Vouchers are end game, if you take all the credit from Gamestop and transfer into cards, no more Gamestop cycle, all that money is flushed out, yes GS will get skimmed a little $$$ for it, but overall this will remove credit forever

Uh... prepaid cards are pretty big outside the US. Not everybody has a CC you know.

Just for the record, i have plenty of credit cards but with all the shit that has gone down over the last 12 months with hackers, i have become very paranoid with using my credit cards online. I find myself using pre-paid cards more and more for online purcases. For example, I only use pre-paid cards with BestBuy.com now and plan on making the transition with Amazon shortly.
