So GamingBolt gave Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition a 7 on PC after giving the original version on PS4 a 10. Am I missing something here? I mean this is the same game with additional DLC, 60fps and other features exclusive to PC. How the heck is it a 7 while the PS4 version is a 10?

I get that it's a different reviewer, but it's still the same site and this kind of thing is just unacceptable imo. The reviewer also says the port is excellent (which makes downgrade in score even more baffling), something that is absolutely not true (please refer to DF for tons of issues this port has). From all this I can only gather that this was an incompetent review and poor showing on the side of GaminBolt, not that they have a high standard or anything.

Moral of the story: mainstream gaming media reviews are often rubbish.

Btw, I don't think the game deserved a 10 it originally received.

Different reviewer. Different tastes. This is obviously someone who didn't enjoy the game to begin with. That's usually a very bad choice for a review of a port known for not changing anything relevant, but that's on the editor that assigned it more than to the reviewer himself.

But honestly, I'm ever amazed anyone reads these clickbaiters. I wouldn't be surprised if they picked someone negatively predisposed toward the game in order to stir some drama. Drama = clicks, and you fell for it.

IGn for example always makes sure that the previous score of the game is taken into consideration even if the reviewer is different, they only mark the game down if the game mechanics have aged, which obviously isn't the case here.

Also miss 90's gamepros very objective reviews.

The "new" shine of the game is gone, if you're a gaming journalist you've likely played it before (or seen a lot of footage).

There's also the fact that open world games have moved forwards in the last few years.

Steam reviews will paint a more accurate picture of how the game compares to everything else, as they always do.

I dont even bother because no matter what I consider it a flaw. For general games I watch ACG and for RPG's its JayRPG most of the time.

Yeah, but the game was released 3 years ago and nothing really changed since then. 7 is basically good and 10 is a masterpiece, that's a massive difference.

What exactly does Death Stranding offer in gameplay that Horizon doesn't? Death Stranding is the most barebone game when it comes to gameplay mechanics.

I don't see any other game recently released that has advanced open world game genre to say that Horizon is now outdated and deseves such harsh criticism.

About right tbh, It's a gorgeous game obviously and it has a few good moments but honestly, the open world is lifeless and boring. Fighting the dinobots is a novelty that soon wears off. It's one of the only PS4 exclusives I haven't gone back to play again.

I agree, the game was never a 10, imo it's 8.5. I just find it strange how it went from 10 to 7. I think 10s are way too casually given these days. It never seizes to amaze me how every new GTA game gets 10s from almost all mainstream gaming media.

A website review is an individual's opinion. If they are two different people, it's irrelevant what the first person scored it. It's no different than IGN giving a game a 7 and GameSpot giving it a 10.

like I already mentioned, IGN always takes into account their previous score as do some other gaming sites. It's still strange to me how this was never a problem when it was going through editorial process.

IGN wants people to believe they hold the only review that matters.

I listen to GameScoop and when they talk about game of the year, etc, they only acknowledge IGN reviews and treat it as gospel for how good a game is (or isn't). If they score a game lower, they don't give a damn if it is sitting at a 93 on Metacritic.

The problem is the 10, not the 7. There is no way HZD is a 10/10 game. It's a woeful open world game. If you played this after Ghost, it feels dead and empty by comparison.

Smh, I already said in this thread that the game is a 8.5 imo. My problem isn't with the 7 (even if I think it's a bit low), it's with the fact the score is tied to the same outlet and their two reviews are worlds apart even though the one on PC is more complete.

The issue is with the second review making it seem like it's a completely different game. It's a different reviewer but people still look at it as Gamingbolt review. It has technical issues yes, but this isn't the reason why the score was downgraded.
