First-Party Title LEGO Horizon Adventures Doesn't Have PS5 Pro Mode Available At Launch
Key Takeaways
- LEGO Horizon Adventures lacks graphical modes for PS5 Pro support at launch.
- Fidelity Mode prioritizes visuals over frame rate, while Performance Mode locks the game at 60fps.
- The game's uninspired level design and dullness lead to mixed reviews and a "Fair" rating on Open Critic.
While Sony has been quite busy updating its first-party games with support for the PS5 Pro, oddly enough, a newly released first-party game doesn't take advantage of the mid-gen console's added horsepower—we're referring to LEGO Horizon Adventures.
With the game out today and reviews going up the day before, it's been revealed that Guerrilla Games' and Studio Gobo's LEGO-themed re-imagining of
Horizon Zero Dawn doesn't have any graphical options that can take advantage of the PS5 Pro -- at least at launch.
LEGO Horizon Adventures Has Multiple Graphical Modes But None For The PS5 Pro
At launch, LEGO Horizon Adventures features two graphical modes, and these are: Fidelity Mode and a Performance Mode (via
VGC). Both modes are the same graphical modes we've seen available for most games released on the PS5.
Fidelity Mode offers a richer visual experience with detailed lighting and shadow effects and even sharper textures but at the cost of a lower frame rate. More often than not, games in this mode are capped at 30 frames per second.
In comparison, Performance Mode usually has fewer effects available and even fewer crispy images, though it locks the game at a smooth 60fps.
Of course, Sony could eventually release a title update to LEGO Horizon Adventures that takes advantage of the PS5 Pro, though it is a bit odd that a game in development and set to be released after the PS5 Pro doesn't have any way to do so. Unless, of course, Guerrilla Games doesn't have access to a PS5 Pro devkit, which is very unlikely.
In comparison, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, which was released on October 31, featured PS5 Pro support right from the start.
While most LEGO-themed games of beloved IPs tend to review quite well, the same can't be said for LEGO Horizon Adventures. Our sister site
Game Rant's review mentions, "LEGO Horizon Adventures does some things better than the other LEGO games, and it does some things worse. It has better graphics, polish, and combat than any other LEGO game I've played, but it suffers a lot from uninspired level design and general dullness."
Over on
Open Critic, LEGO Horizon Adventures currently has a "Fair" rating. The top critical average is 72, and only 53% of critics recommend it.
