Lego Horizon Adventures | Review Thread

Using Steam CCUs against Lego Horizon out of all things is a new low.

Lol, Sony is not Square Enix. We will not know even if it's actually the case.

Credits? I just don't see a reason for this to be any different from Firesprite's Call of the Mountain or the NCSoft MMO.
But I do feel that Guerrilla was way more involved in LHA compared to COTM.
I agree, but I can't find a single video with them on YouTube. Although the game is very short and there are already walkthroughs and recordings of the endings of the game, but I don't see the credits. Well, I definitely won't buy the game, so let's wait until someone posts it =)

I will tell you when the MobyGames page gets added.

pre ordered it when it was announced and didn’t follow reviews or anything, assumed it was a Lego game so can’t go wrong. they went wrong, it’s not good. The way you do levels is so trash

Most dudes dont like games with chick mc's, just like most dudes dont watch chickflicks at the theater. Plus Horizon is a boring franchise, proped up by bundle and ps+ numbers. It's not suprising that it's flopping, same as the money pit that the upcoming horizon mmo will

There are plenty of great Female MCs, from;
Lara Croft
Bayonetta
Regina (Dino Crisis)
2B
Jill Valentine/Claire Redfield
Eve (Stellar Blade)
Alloy (yes, even her)

It's just a matter of making an actual fleshed out character that is more than just their "Gender" or "Sexual Identity".

The same goes for Male MCs.

Trash

Sonys new game strategy is just garbage and DEI doo doo fests.

In Nintendo we trust I guess…

Might be the case where Guerrilla Games have too many on their plates making this, Horizon Remastered, COTM and Forbidden West PC in the last couple of years

The game isn't too bad and looks good visually although I am not a fan of the zoomed out, almost isometric camera perspective that means most of the detail is lost or the fixed camera angle due to the lack of camera control (you can rotate the camera at all).

Also, the game bizarrely has no PS5 Pro support - it isn't listed on the PS Store as Pro Enhanced - yet the game's 60 fps Performance mode apparently uses reduced settings compared with the Fidelity mode which targets 4K @ 30 fps. The resolution in Performance mode is dynamic so that would run higher than the base PS5 but the Pro should easily be able to use the Fidelity settings and achieve a locked 60 fps.

Kind of concerning that this is a first party game from Sony, a new one at that, that releases after the launch of Pro but yet does not ship with any Pro enhancements...

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
Bollocks, it's still one of their most highly rated and sold game series, they need to finish off the trilogy on a high note then move on to a new IP.
something tells me the third sequel will have the lowest sales in the franchise.

I am slightly confused. The lego games have been known for being silly adaptations of serious stories, but quite a few reviewers are saying that this is a negative specifically for this I.P.

Why?

Is Horizon simply too serious of a series to be taken lightly? Would this be like making a Lego game of Berserk/Guts?

I haven’t played Horizon yet so I am curious.

It can still sell 5-10 million and be totally successful though. But I'm not predicting what it will do, at least until we have seen the game (it could be a very different feeling game if it's a full on war with a futuristic race and earths machines on your side)

Because some reviewers are dumb? It's a Lego game, if you like Lego games this isn't that much different. It's a really fun little adaption that changes some elements to make it more for kids (certain characters don't die like in Horizon for example)

The voice actors seem to have had real fun changing their characters to be funny and light hearted, Ashley Birch playing Aloy in particular.

I haven't played Lego Horizon, so I'm just speculating. But I think it's just a matter of two things - if humor is landing and if characters who receive "Lego treatment" still retains quirks of their original versions so you recognize them as parody and caricatures. In case of Lego Horizon I noticed a few mentions that characters doesn't really feel like their regular counterparts but more like new characters with the same name, which I assume can make it feel more jarring, I guess?

Game pretty good. My son is loving it 😍
Playing Co op with him , I didn’t like the Lego split screen before but now is like knack 2, just transportation to the other player

I don’t mind some casual fun. How does it compare to the original Horizon Zero Dawn and what platform are you playing on?

Herman need to realise the horizon franchise is over.
he should start to be serious now on new IP.
"over"...an IP that sold over 20M copies with its first entry and over 12M with the second entry (which was available on PS Plus a year after release). I wish most IPs were this over tbh.

Looks really neat ngl. But Dragon Quest 3 looks to be the better buy today

I’m playing on PS5, just the story and character are from horizon , battle mechanics are pretty simple , and climbing is mostly just pointing to the next platform, is not open world either, main hub with short missions.

Imo It’s a game for young kids, is a lot simpler than previous Lego games . I won’t recommend for adults playing alone, can be pretty repetitive but kids like to customize the main city with Ninja Go, City, etc .

Wasn’t the last official number for Forbidden West 8.4M?

That figure is from May 2023, but it may be the last official figure given, still, that's a year and a half ago so it will be more even though it was on plus.

I chuckled at the counting fingers reference in the game but otherwise found a lot humour to be a bit cringe-worthy personally. The joke about inanimate objects not learning to protect themselves for example. I get that this is a game aimed at younger gamers but, c'mon, even they could not possibly find that even remotely funny.

Huh? It's made out of Lego, how is it supposed to look? Looks good to me.

The whole game is made to look like Lego, is this a first for a mainline story based Lego game?

That's what my wife said. I still think they could have chosen a bit different art direction for the water.

I posted on every account both devs and sony have on social media trying to find any info whether there will be a ps5 pro patch, i bought their 700 new console to run this at 4k 60fps and refuse to use ps5 vanilla settings on a sony studios game post pro launch. There is a clear difference in quality between fidelity and performance and playing this at 30fps for the crisp image is frustrating to say the least. How are they not supporting the Pro at launch, H O W ?
At least there are multiple graphical modes

First-Party Title LEGO Horizon Adventures Doesn't Have PS5 Pro Mode Available At Launch

Key Takeaways

  • LEGO Horizon Adventures lacks graphical modes for PS5 Pro support at launch.
  • Fidelity Mode prioritizes visuals over frame rate, while Performance Mode locks the game at 60fps.
  • The game's uninspired level design and dullness lead to mixed reviews and a "Fair" rating on Open Critic.
While Sony has been quite busy updating its first-party games with support for the PS5 Pro, oddly enough, a newly released first-party game doesn't take advantage of the mid-gen console's added horsepower—we're referring to LEGO Horizon Adventures.

With the game out today and reviews going up the day before, it's been revealed that Guerrilla Games' and Studio Gobo's LEGO-themed re-imagining of Horizon Zero Dawn doesn't have any graphical options that can take advantage of the PS5 Pro -- at least at launch.

LEGO Horizon Adventures Has Multiple Graphical Modes But None For The PS5 Pro

At launch, LEGO Horizon Adventures features two graphical modes, and these are: Fidelity Mode and a Performance Mode (via VGC). Both modes are the same graphical modes we've seen available for most games released on the PS5.
Fidelity Mode offers a richer visual experience with detailed lighting and shadow effects and even sharper textures but at the cost of a lower frame rate. More often than not, games in this mode are capped at 30 frames per second.
In comparison, Performance Mode usually has fewer effects available and even fewer crispy images, though it locks the game at a smooth 60fps.

Of course, Sony could eventually release a title update to LEGO Horizon Adventures that takes advantage of the PS5 Pro, though it is a bit odd that a game in development and set to be released after the PS5 Pro doesn't have any way to do so. Unless, of course, Guerrilla Games doesn't have access to a PS5 Pro devkit, which is very unlikely.
In comparison, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, which was released on October 31, featured PS5 Pro support right from the start.
While most LEGO-themed games of beloved IPs tend to review quite well, the same can't be said for LEGO Horizon Adventures. Our sister site Game Rant's review mentions, "LEGO Horizon Adventures does some things better than the other LEGO games, and it does some things worse. It has better graphics, polish, and combat than any other LEGO game I've played, but it suffers a lot from uninspired level design and general dullness."
Over on Open Critic, LEGO Horizon Adventures currently has a "Fair" rating. The top critical average is 72, and only 53% of critics recommend it.

That's just bad considering its also attached to the Lego brand.

Seems like many really don't care much about Aloy, not surprising seeing how she is just really bland.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
My own, id rather play as a dude then some chick thats on a gay ass mission to save the world. most of my non nerd peers feel the same
Sounds a bit insecure.

Guess you and your peers (if they do really exist) never heard of Metroid, Perfect Dark, Tomb Raider? You know, that game with the chick that featured in many magazines aimed at men?

This place is getting kinda weird. Now for some reason current players on steam is some sort of big deal, mentions of games bring on targeting focus on an individual person (?)..

I mean this is a Lego game, I wouldn't expect more than just some silly fun because that's really all it should be.

Thats different, i should clarify that i mean the typical "girlboss characters" hence why i wrote why i compared to chickflicks(movies made for girls). ie im talking about games like returnal, control, horizon. where you get a lectured constantly. The games you mentioned had fun gameplay, not an overbearing story etc with ethics to preach. ie i like the tomb raider movies (old ones.) they are mindless fun.
for instance i tried playing control but i just dont care about the strong silent woman that tries to find her brother, could not be bothered at all not immersed at all.
also the returnal trailer made sure i never bought the game, some butch woman trying to find some family member in outer space, hard pass dont care, dont even care enough to find out if thats what the game was about.
On the other hand i liked bayonetta due to the good gameplay. (since i like dmc.)

a lot of people are in the same boat

Be more specific next time my dude, we could have avoided all this lol.

I 100% agree with you. Lecturing in games is the lamest shit, specially when it's done in a so "in-your-face" way as it's so usually done nowadays.

It’s bad. It doesn’t even feel like a Lego game. Every level is kinda the exact same, theres a hot dog cart weapon? I’m fine with silly but that has no connection to anything. It feels like a mobile game the way you beat a level go to a mini stage then go back into a level. And I’ve enjoyed a lot of the Lego games

eeh, I dunno. I like this quite a bit and I'm not sure what people expected. Frankly, I didn't know either, but I guess it helps that I'm not that attached to the IP? I find the combat system to be very engaging and shockingly tight. Reminds me of oldschool action games from the 16-bit era and from the Xbox 360 Arcade era. The level design in-between the action is lacklustre and probably the biggest weak point. 4 out of 5 (or more) stages are just straight lines to the next battle and the platforming in the few levels that are different isn't that amazing. Still a fun time IMO, just maybe not at full price?

Based on the words it seems this is a game that's best bought when on sales. Especially with DQ3 remake here now as well
