Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

I agree, buying 4090 spoiled me a lot :messenger_tears_of_joy:
I just love modding games, it's my passion that I got with Morrowind.
No modded and fully playable game has the same water or the same npcs animation/body types variety, not even cyberpunk, the models may be more detailed but that's it.

No amount of moddingis gonna turn the stiff npcs in cyberpunk into gta6 npcs (if they remain as good as the trailer).

We had uber detailed characters for a while now, animations and microdetails is what gonna make a difference going forward.

oh yes. the same usual reshade presets and model mods.
nothing too look at here. They just oversharpen and desaturate the image... and add depth of field for better effect.
This is fake good graphics. if you installed the mode and played like that, it looks like shit during play. It's the instagram effect.
I hate these "real cp2077 wow so real" vids.
We all know very well that humanity has not yet made games better than Forspoken, and I'm afraid that in the next 10 years, hardly anyone will be able to come close to this ideal =)

I completely agree, I guess I just don't really like games in a real setting, I prefer either fantasy or science fiction. That's why if I had to choose between GTA and RDR, I'd choose the second. As for NPC behavior, that's a problem for the industry in general. Very rarely and in some games do they spend time and resources on it. It's long, expensive, and most importantly, most players don't interact with the world at a level that would be worthwhile. In principle, you can mod NPC behavior in CP2077, but it's unlikely that anyone would be interested in it, and there aren't many opportunities for NPCs in the game itself, unless you want to assign them a more complex route. But even in the days of Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, there were mods that significantly expanded NPC behavior, including companions, who were assigned entire unique lines of dialogue and quests. But usually, working with NPCs doesn't move beyond the RPG genre. Rockstar can afford this because their games have an unlimited budget and development time. I would like to see this in all games, of course, is it realistic with current budgets and development timeframes, unfortunately not...

This was uploaded to youtube by Massive's cinematic artist. It's the opening to the new DLC. the base game doesnt feature any third person cutscenes but the DLC intros do and my god they look stunning for realtime rendering.

What a massive mistake by Massive not taking advantage of all this talent and limiting all cutscenes to static first person.

.i believe gta6 can retain the same fidelity as shown in the trailer at 30 or 40 fps on consoles.
.rdr2 was never degraded compared to the initial trailers.
.rockstar games can do it
I believe the delays were actually due to that very reason.
the stakes have never been higher for a game and as terrible as the leaks were for Rockstar ,
gamers' lukewarm reactions to the leaks' visuals and their positive response to the reveal trailer
encouraged them and made them all the more determined to deliver a visually stunning game.

Just saying, but looking at that diminishing returns thread... Is anyone here not even slightly worried that lithography has legitimately hit a wall? How are we supposed to continue getting better looking games if the very hardware has nearly stagnated? There's only so much Nvidia can do by continuing to make the xx90 class cards bigger and bigger.

Lol RDR2 was the best looking game last gen, people are weird
lol RDR2 is literally the top 3 best looking game of the last generation. It's one of the few games that remain installed on my ssd while everything else gets rotated out. even cyberpunk which was a mainstay in my library was swapped out earlier this year. It's crazy that a 6 year old game can still hold up. A true masterpiece in visual design.

That said, I have no problems admitting it has been topped. Especially since last year. HFW was the first time where I was like ok, RDR2 is no longer the king, but since Avatar released last year we have had several games that have continued to push the bar. As they should given how they are literally running on 7-10x more powerful hardware.

The trees are the one thing that kinda looks dated. The foliage/grass on the ground is gorgeous. The water is sublime. The draw distance is still industry leading. Animation work is top notch. But some of the lighting, character models and trees start showing their last gen roots.

The tech behind the scenes will improve. Look at how epic has doubled the performance of lumen and nanite in just 4 years. That means Matrix quality graphics might actually be achievable this Gen.

Then there is stuff like megalights which is literally giving you an 8x boost in performance. It changes the way artists design levels.

Then there is AI which will continue to evolve but we might not see those gains till 2035 or whenever they decide to launch ps7.

Now the gpu gains are indeed slowing down and there is nothing you can do about that. Ps6 will only be 30-35 tflops but hopefully rt performance will increase two fold over the base ps5 and some architecture gains will get us to 5-6x more gpu performance even with a tiny 3x increase in gpu power.

It's all we have left at this point, very much? Software improvements and overall optimization to workflows surely, but losing the hardware progress factor is still something that might bite us down the line. I'm not saying this is bad of course, the more efficiently we use our current TFLOPS the more people will be able to keep playing games and still not miss out on a pretty game, I suppose things are just different now.

Bought The Konami UE5 Baseball game from the singapore store. No way to buy the steam version so have to settle for this 1080p PS5 version but my goodness, this lighting is to die for. I thought the night time lighting looked realistic until i played a day game and it's shocking how big of an upgrade it is from MLB the show's bland and basic ps3 era lighting.

the animations are a work of art. They are super smooth with near instant transitions. I dont know how they are doing it but the sliding and rounding of bases has never looked more realistic.

The presentation is also leagues ahead of MLB the show. It feels like a real broadcast as they cut to the crowd or the manager or the some poor sap on the field looking all dejected. It's minor stuff but adds up. Especially when the character models look this realistic.

The PS5 version is only 1080p so its not as sharp, but not bad either. The giffing process makes it look grainer than it is on my screen. The HDR pops especially at night and the crowd being kind grainy actually works to make it look realistic.

Realistically speaking, how many chance has gta6 to look EXACTLY like the reveal? And when i say exactly i mean down to the smallest microdetails.

Are a 2 billion dollars budget, infinite manpower and 10+ years in the oven enough to bruteforce these weak ass consoles?
As time goes by I genuinely believe it’s impossible for it to look like the trailer - maybe when it rereleases on PC the year after

Oh 100% man it has been topped no doubt, BUT it still looks reaaally good till this day. Sometimes I just start it up cuz why not and I still get wowed by the graphics. Animations are still top notch and I'd say that is the only area thar hasn't been topped by any game yet even by tlou2 in my opinion. I know tlou2 gets praised for its animation system and rightly so but in my opinion the animations in RDR2 trump them.

The day this happens is the day I quit this thread and ride into the sunset with a martini in my hand and never to be seen again. I still have The Matrix demo as the bar for gorgeous graphics that once matched that's when we have almost achieved photorealism!

Watch the GTA5 and RDR2 trailers. They are very carefully crafted with some fancy curated cutscene angles that you will never see ingame. They then use some post processing effects to give them an even more cinematic look.

All of this to say the final game wont look as nice during gameplay, but everything they showed is real. I am not too concerned about the number of NPCs on the beach and at the car park getting downgraded. Rockstar has been doing crazy stuff with NPCs since GTA4. rdr2 had so many different missions where you were fighting alongside a dozen or so NPCs against a couple dozen NPCs. On horseback no less. Way more than what we are typically used to in modern games.

One thing that impressed me was that they always showed the console versions when doing the gta5 and rdr2 trailers. And with rdr2, they didnt use the x1x or pro consoles even though they knew x1x could run it at native 4k. They've done the same with this game. The trailer had obvious fsr2 artifacts and was running at 1440p internal resolution. likely on the PS5.

This needs a damn Pro patch! No game releasing today should be 1080p ...sounds like the first truly next gen sports game though

I hope you’re right. I’ve lowered my standards at this point, if it’s like 80% as good looking as the trailer I’ll be happy.
