How much staying power do you think the Souls-inspired trend in gaming has?

Tendency based design is objectively superior to pattern based design. Pattern based design is rather crude.

Normally I'd say these things come and go, but I believe that the Souls games have, on some level, forever altered the landscape of 3rd person action combat across the industry.

Much akin to RE4's impact on video games that are still felt today, but likely even more so.

Unfortunately, the lessons most inspired devs are learning from FROM usually don't include the most important one: level design.
 
Might as well be doom at this point. I don't think they are going away, and possibly not evolving into anything else for a long time.
