When did the woke trend start in gaming?

The day the woke movement lifted up his ugly head and made it a main topic around the internet....The whole woke movement and people behind it need to rethink theyr lives...Because life is to short to waist it for sh*t like this..

What game has said this?

By "hoe behavior" I assume you're referring to sexual promiscuity? But you are also decaying when women are not attractive in games or are covered up.

So you thing that a woman dressing provocatively and exuding sexual appeal is hoe behavior and woke, but also that covering up women in games or not playing up their sex appeal is also woke?

All of these things listed are much older than a decade. In fact, both of those examples you listed go back well over a decade.
1) Bro, almost no games gonna call themselfs woke, its bad for business, players/ppl recognise those symptomes as wokeness of the game.
2) Hoe behaviour is sexual promiscuity but not only that, all kinds of almost naked photos on insta is hoe behaviour too, or posting almost naked vids on tik tok doing stupid dances, going to pubs and clubs, dressing provocatively, all for male attention.
3) When it comes to female characters, suddenly all white knights/SJW's and feminist want them to be covered and ugly as much as possible, thats coz they arent real women, but they appeal to male audience, for the same reason us-gamers want female characters in game to not be ugly and to wear provocative/sexy clothes- coz they are ez on the eyes, and they appeal to us/please us, they arent real ppl/ aka sluts, just imaginary game characters, that is why its perfectly fine.
4) From ur reply i see u didnt ask what wokeism is, but u tried to get a gatcha instead, tuff luck 4u :)

Most of 18-30yo guys are virgins or had no sex in a year, bro, men start at the bottom of the mountain, aka 0 sexual value, we gotta work hard to change that, its not a shame to be incel when u are young adult male, its actually perfectly normal.
Cant Speak Nathan Fillion GIF

Well, we can agree that changing things about yourself can give you more sexual value.

1) Bro, almost no games gonna call themselfs woke, its bad for business, players/ppl recognise those symptomes as wokeness of the game.

No, I said what game has said that women are superior to men because of emotional intelligence or something? What games are you perceiving that women are superior to men, and what in those games gives you that impression if they are not outright saying it?

2) Hoe behaviour is sexual promiscuity but not only that, all kinds of almost naked photos on insta is hoe behaviour too, or posting almost naked vids on tik tok doing stupid dances, going to pubs and clubs, dressing provocatively, all for male attention.

So youre saying a woman seeking a mans attention sexually is a bad thing?

What games have women doing that?

3) When it comes to female characters, suddenly all white knights/SJW's and feminist want them to be covered and ugly as much as possible, thats coz they arent real women, but they appeal to male audience, for the same reason us-gamers want female characters in game to not be ugly and to wear provocative/sexy clothes- coz they are ez on the eyes, and they appeal to us/please us, they arent real ppl/ aka sluts, just imaginary game characters, that is why its perfectly fine.

So you want fictional women to be hoes or else its woke, but if a real woman is a hoe, then it's not woke? But wouldn't putting women in games to be sexual for the male attention also be woke by that same logic, real or not? If it doesn't apply to fake women then why does the feminism and stuff apply to the fake women?

4) From ur reply i see u didnt ask what wokeism is, but u tried to get a gatcha instead, tuff luck 4u :)

All I asked what for you to define your parameters, and then asked you questions about those parameters. I haven't denied anything you've said but i want to here it in your own words. Don't be so paranoid, and you'll find most "gachas" are just seeking information.

It really is about political climate especially in USA with big influence around the world. Started to emerge on Obama administration, and Ii became more rampant under Obama second term. Started first with movies and TV shows then , then gaming companies started to embrace especially after moving studios to LA like for example Sony move to LA head quarters around Ps4 era. Started to grow with emergence of BLM. Then the radicalization of BLM happened. Movement started just for anti racism which is for me, it is not bad, but it was radicalize because other agendas and group took advantage and joined the movement like pro abortion, extreme feminist, pro same sex marriage, pro transgenderism and gender ideology and anti Semitist. And worsen and fully matured under Biden.

I'll never get over people using the word "woke" as a bogeyman term. Especially from younger people.

Forming future idiots for generations to come.
I think these people called this themselves in the beginning. They are very good with funny name creations. ;)

Not really quite sure on the exact dates but the phases summarized

  • Griftergate and the rise of the simps
  • Perpetually offended people looking for any reason to get upset about anything in a game (or anything else in their lives) that doesn't line up with their ever-shifting morality narrative
  • Narcissistic cult, brainwashed and emboldened by the + being added to the alphabet - now thinks their sexuality/identity is the #1 important component of a game (and everything else in their lives)
  • Cult morphs to mob - starts looking for scalps - pressuring for deplatforming and outright firing of those who would dare try to bring in logical discussion or have a dissenting opinion
  • Media, studios, & corporations, who spent years guilt-hiring and elevating narcissists and social grifters from said mob into prominent positions within their organizations are now held hostage by them
  • Media, Movies, TV, Games and other content predicated on identity politics and sexuality are released in droves across the spectrum - people who don't consume or have valid criticisms are labeled bigots and told the content is "not for you"
  • Aforementioned content starts to bomb across the spectrum - blame is shifted to consumers and narrative of "bad faith grifters"
  • Companies that chose to ride on the side of the mob start to lose mass amounts of money & return on investments - studios shutter across the spectrum
  • Victimhood tours and other PR recovery stunts are arranged at a final attempt to shame consumers for not consuming slop <-----------------We are here

All of this is a result of hive-mind antics and mob capitulation - with a dash of narcissistic self-fellatio.
This is a perfect encapsulation of the timeline I'd say, well done.

Man I'm glad I cant relate to this shit.
But I also wish I could help yall.
U would be surprised how many young men, perfectly normal avg ones, never had sex, back in my college days, early 2000s, my roommate who was 5'6(170cm) and about 155lbs(70kg), very inteligent, 0 problem with study, just he was from small village, didnt drink nor party, bit shy and he still didnt even get a proper kiss on the lips from a girl even by the end of college...

He wasnt weird/autistic/didnt have bad hygene nor anything like that, just he didnt party and was of avg looks(not super fit, but flat stomach and not much musclemass), he did start to get balding/got bit of an "eagle nest" at the top of his head tho.
There are tons of guys like that in the 18-30 age braket. And they are invisible to 99% of women in terms of dating opportunities, and rightfully so, they got nothing to offer except of their good heart/loyality(disney movies lie about it, women only care about those if a man is top dog and has options/oportunities ;) .

Around what era? What specific games started the trend? Were they successful?
When Polygon & Co. complained at E3 2014 about how none of the three tentpole Ubisoft titles shown at the event (Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 4 and Rainbow Six: Siege) had any playable female characters in spite of their focus on cooperative and competitive multiplayer.

Five years later, by 2019, you were already getting soulless female MCs in the Far Cry 5 spin-off sequel, New Dawn, and had already gotten the choice to play as girl boss Cassandra in Assassin's Creed Odyssey -- which coincidentally came to the market at about the same time as Battlefield V.

What Marxist theory of class is being applied to ... let's say race for example that is causing an issue?

Foucault's intersectionality theory.

The left think-tanks love that word and use it often, It's in their propaganda manifesto. You can't miss it.

According to this theory, different oppresed social classes (by gender, race, religion) find a common enemy that represents all the social groups that oppress them. In the Western societies, that's the "white hetero male", which becomes a class of its own, regardless of financial background.

That's why you find feminists and LGTB allying with radical muslims, because both have a common enemy. Their differences don't matter, only their shared hate towards another group.

That's modern marxism.

The late 2010s is where you really start to see the shift, with even companies like Capcom falling to it as seen in those leaked documents.

Most people seem to agree that it was sometime between 2013 - 2016, which is probably accurate. Within that timeline you had the Trifecta of:
  • Tropes vs. Women in Gaming
  • Gamergate
  • Donald Trump becomes POTUS
The first one planted the seed, the second is where Video Game Journalists/Developers and Gamers turned on each other, and their relationship hasn't been the same since. The third one kicked it into full gear, like it was their duty to be as progressive as possible to fight Trump.

Now we're stuck in what is probably going to be an endless culture war in gaming. This will never go away. People may not like to hear this, and you can argue that all of this probably would've come to pass anyway, but Anita Sarkeesian succeeded at what she set out to do, and was very successful at it. Gaming culture was never the same after that. Journalists, Developers, and Gamers used to be united more under their love for video games, but this whole window of time divided us. Sure there are many of us that still get along, and still find common ground in the enjoyment of our hobby, but it's definitely not like the way it used to be.

At the moment it's probably the worst I've ever seen. Almost every major release in surrounded by some sort of controversy. There are two sides, and whenever a game succeeds or fails, one of these sides is openly celebrating and commenting about how the chuds got owned, or "go woke go broke". Each side has the opposing side living rent free in their heads. Gaming culture is an embarrassing nightmare now.

Whenever people talk about how gaming used to be so much better in the 90s and 2000s, you can add "People were way more chill and just enjoyed what they had" to the many list of reasons as to why that is.

It really started in the lead up to Resident Evil 5 (2009) with the whole killing black people in Africa and tribal clothing drama. Everything slowly snowballed from there.

It's honestly the earliest event I can remember that actually made waves.

I also think it's the first time where I had the "you can never win" thought, because if you kill black zombies, people are mad, and if you replace black zombies with white zombies, people are mad. Earliest thing I can remember like this too.
Little did I know that this would be a common nonsense we would see every day in everything in the future...

At some point companies started get points, incentives, and bonuses based off its corporate equality index ranking. Which has turned out to not be enough to make up for the financial loss in most cases which why companies have started pulling away from it as a top metric. when that was.. IDK lol

Define "woke" for the purpose of this discussion and then we can pinpoint something

People have been complaining about things in a similar nature to what gets called "woke" today for like 30 years if not longer so

Political correctness in the late 80ies and 90ies was the precursor of what we now call woke.

Woke games only started being woke, when people started getting angry about LGBT, Strong females and Black Characters in videogames, as if they hadnt existed since like the 80s or some shit.
And why do you think everyone suddenly started complaining about that, even if it existed before? Do you actually think everyone suddenly became racist, homophobic etc out of nowhere, at the same time?
There is a reason why people are tired of these topics now, it's because of how it suddenly started being pushed like crazy as political agendas. It's been forced so much into everything, it never felt genuine anymore. Pretending that there hasn't been an actual shift in how these themes have been portrayed in recent medias would be dishonest.

I think it's much more accurate to say it's the rich elite doing the oppressing if you're trying to claim that it's Marxism.

That's why you find feminists and LGTB allying with radical muslims, because both have a common enemy. Their differences don't matter, only their shared hate towards another group.
That's modern marxism.

Sure, but how's that prevalent in video games? Theres certainly no video games coming our with radical Muslim leads. And the ones with LGBT leads are there, but more often than not those are also white dudes.

Most games that release even, still are mostly white guys.

I certainly don't deny people exist with those ideals. But I dont see this prevalence of anti white male that supposedly exists in gaming.

I feel like that connotation implies something is bad *because * its politically correct which i think is an overcorrection.

Something overrly being politically correct seems to be the best definition of "woke" that gets thrown around(usually shoddily so). But something politically incorrect(im gonna assume thus basically means "offensive to some people") also can be bad. Something people find offensive doesn't automatically make it bad, but something people find to be inclusive isn't either.

It all started in 2011, after Occupy Wall Street.

After the 2008 crisis and the American government helping the banks to save themselves, while millions were left unemployed, people revolted and began protesting against the bankers.
Then, mysteriously, the media started introducing diversity issues in a way that divided people and thus, the Occupy Wall Street movement was dismantled.

I cant recall but didn't Capcom wanted change themselves? Thats why they outsourced their IP's to western developers.

Yup makes sense, goverment/elites noticed ppl got pissed off so they quickly found new "war" to make sure every1 are focused on that.
And guess what- who is most easily influenced and has follower mindset- young women, so they were primary target for that, then it spread from there- beta simps pretending to be allies/male feminists which we got so many among devs in the west, fucking disgrace...

There were some rumblings about The Witcher. It went mainstream with Resident Evil 5.
It went full retard when Rock Paper Shotgun complained about Playboy in Mafia 2. The absolute virgin even thought the photos were colorized.

Then the Dead Island collector's edition torso.

There was a full blown beef in online atheist and social justice communities, if you can believe that. Gamergate was that flopping over into gaming. That's why it seemed to show up with so much energy really fast.

I'd have to agree that Sakeesian's videos were the start of the modern "woke" gaming movement. Though, I don't like to call it that because doing so plays into the stupidity of it all. The thing about her videos is that she made a lot of really good points. Video Games had become a very male space and there was value in looking at the way that women were represented in games. All art is subject to a critical examination of how that art both affects and is affected by society. For a long time, games had gotten a free pass. Looking at how comically terrible the portrayal of women had become wasn't just something noticed by Sarkeesian, either. One of my favorite comics to poke fun at state of female representation is this old Penny Arcade strip about Prince of Persia Warrior Within.

uAUuWHb.png

Post-Sarkeesian, a lot of people that liked things the way they were started taking it very personally that the thing they liked was being criticized and painted in a bad light. Moreover, as developers, publishers, and the games media started pushing for better representation, a lot of gamers started seeing the acceptance of Sarkeesian's critiques as an attack on their character.

These gamers chose very poor ways to defend themselves and kind of proved the point of those trying to offer a more inclusive space. Basically, it just made things worse.

Both sides became more ideologically stubborn and the more extreme voices decided that their way was the right way and that any deviation from it was both a personal attack and also a battle for the future of an entire medium. This is still happening today. Too many people out there are still looking at isolated decisions and using them as evidence to express how the things they don't like are ruining gaming. What's worse is that a lot of these voices are now so extreme that they are normalizing some pretty gross levels of bigotry.

I can't wait till we get over this whole thing.

this was the start, it received tons of accolades and made space for activist types to infiltrate the space.

Gone Home - Wikipedia
Boy that ending was a letdown. Thought it was building to some grand mystery reveal, only for it to be a sister who ran away because she was gay. Whoop de fucking doo.

Still, it was only an indie, and new IP, so it didn't really bother me that much. I was letdown and just moved on. While there were inklings of it back then, it truly kicked off into full force in 2017, after Trump was elected. Almost everyone on the Left developed TDS, and wanted to proclaim their hate for Trump and the Right (including Center Right, who were lumped in with the rest of the "Nazis") in every way possible. Unfortunately, that meant in games, too.

I think the biggest example to solidify it was Mass Effect Andromeda. It was made with DEI hiring before DEI was even a thing. The director was a racist and had a cup that said "white tears" on it. They were hiring people based on race and sex, instead of merit. One example, a woman who said she hadn't touched gaming code in several years.

We know how that game turned out. Another rare incel win.

It’s more accurate to say that gaming followed the broader “woke” trend that permeated all of culture.
It's a sickness that causes activists to focus on gender and race at a higher degree than actual racists and misogynists do. Some might say they are the ones who have become the very thing they claim to hate.

Since the word woke actually means 'aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)'. I would say since the start of gaming it's been woke and I'm glad games don't shy away from embracing the diversity that exists in Humanity since the dawn of time.
