I would think even the 4080 might struggle even with 16gb ram unless you go lower than 4K. Nvidia has severely underpowered all of there cards compared to the 4090. It seems anyone who wants to enjoy a full path tracing experience are stuck paying the exorbitant prices for a 4090, or the upcoming 5090, or perhaps the 5080. Nvidia, are ridiculously stingy with their ram in recent cards. I saw a good video about this the other day where a streamer was demonstrating that a 3060 at 1080P and high settings with 12gb of RAM was outperforming the 4060 with a piddly 8gb ram. I have a 5700 XT with no ray tracing capabilities whatsoever so I am either going to buy an RDNA 4 RX 8800, or perhaps a mid tier Nvidia card like yours. I doubt I would be lucky enough to find a used 4080 for a good price otherwise I might go that route.

Peoples are cranking to ultra / supreme settings for nothing. There's a ton of VRAM hungry effects that bring little to the table. This has always been the case with recent ID tech games. Even doom eternal will kneecap memory pool. Almost nothing to do with path tracing, although yea, if you had supreme with RT, then for PT you have to drop a notch depending on memory you have. I have high setting + full RT and it's gorgeous.

Crazy that this got dicked out of the Keighley awards

Totally could've seen them try and get Harrison and Troy up on stage at once to play off of each other (and ensure maximum awkwardness and embarrassment by proxy).

I mean, they pulled Pacino out of bed for an appearance. It wouldn't be that much of a stretch for an appearance by Ford.

We've had third-person games where you are picking up objects and inspecting/looking at them so I dunno if first-person is justified for that reason. After playing the game, I still wish at times that it was third-person but it's fine. I am enjoying it still.

Yeah, that's likely the reason they went with first-person view. Still, I think if they had tried to make a third-person game, they could have done it.

Think it would have taken this game to another level, frankly. But they made the decision and I'm fine with it.

Gonna start in few minutes.

First things first, will see how fistfights work. If its as good as Riddick, I will be happy.

I still have its muscle memory, having played it not very long ago.

Also quick warning for PC users, the game is fucking around with TAA & DLSS. You can have DLSS selected and the performance will be total shit. Because it's somehow defaulting back to TAA at launch and still showing DLSS, So you have to swap back to TAA in settings and then back to DLSS.

When everything is well set in the game, it's incredibly optimized even with path tracing. Sadly, these setting bugs are the culprits for so many "WTF" going around. I hope next patch goes through all of that. DF will likely mention it in their upcoming video.

People seem to forget that Riddick bounced between third and first person as well (mostly when climbing up onto objects and shimmying across ledges...like Indy) and no one complained about it then

And plenty of folks have said they would have preferred third person here. I think it is fine to have different points of view on this point. The game is still great.

Anyone has the game on Steam? Can you confirm if there is exclusive fullscreen there?

Bonus question, anyone with a sub-12GB can confirm if the full RT option shows up?

Riddick has a far less iconic silhouette than Indy though, plus that game was all crawling through ducts and tight corridors, and the eye shine aspect was best represented in first person.

If you ask folks to close their eyes and imagine an Indy game I think the vast majority would envision a Tomb Raider/Uncharted type game. Plus thats the way Lego Indy and most other Indy games showed him, I think. But I think trying to show the whip in third person would have been really janky given how it's used so after playing the game a bit, I see the value in first person.

Shooting a gun feels way more impactful in first person as well

I have 12GB and the option is there with a warning. Same for "supreme" quality

I think they might still do something for the game at the show. An 'out now' trailer or Keighly reminding that it is indeed coming to PS5 next year as well.

But I don't see Ford coming to the show. Maybe Troy and the actor who play the german officer villain doing some back and forth.

So, it shows up for 12GB. I've seen some people on Steam say it stops at Ultra/Supreme and they don't see Full RT as an option. They all had 3080s 10GB.

I wouldn't be surprised if under 12GB don't have the option. I don't think the game would run based on how it performs for me.

Also, I noticed the game only uses dedicated GPU memory and only a tiny bit of "Shared GPU memory". When I was playing COD, I noticed that game used shared quite a bit.

Edit: and it's only using like 30% of the GPU,so somethings wrong

I think it might be too far off, and unless GTA VI gets delayed, I doubt any/many other games will have a chance next year.

The PS5 release could resuscitate it for a bit, especially if they dont fuck up the Pro version, but yeah 2025 seems like its already getting packed with bangers. Gonna be tough to stick around in peoples minds (unfortunately).

I keep finding these 'medicine bottles' and I have no idea what to do with them, haven't run into any NPC that needs them so far and they don't look like health items for Indy.

When first they announced it, i was a bit underwhelmed, i guess because all the expectations over the years to get something similar to Uncharted, but then i watched the trailer again and began to warm up to the idea, and followed with more and more we saw of the game i was looking forward to it very much, now hearing it also kinda Dishonored/Riddick vibe? even more excited. Need a few more days to wrap up Stalker 2 and then i'm on board.

Early Vatican day time spoiler sorta -

There's a nurse in the Vatican, around where you head to the post office to get the camera, who gives you a sidequest to find them. 15 total. And then you trade them in for some pretty valuable skill books (boosting health and stamina). There's a collection of them on her front desk so you can decide which ones you'd like to aim for.

As I said before, first person works a lot better than I thought it would. Third person is just a personal preference for a game like this. If you liked Dishonored and Riddick then you'll love this.

You use them to buy ability books, at vendors.

Thanks!

I'm also loving how involved the side quests in thew game are. I still have yet to do the first story objective in Vatican to find the camera lol. The first instance of "the great circle" has come from one of the side quests I'm doing. This looks like one of those games where even the side quests factor into the central plot.

shame no VR support especially considering it's first person. i read the last wolfe stein in id tech 6 had a VR mod so maybe it's possible. its disheartening seeing devs especially id software neglect VR like this.

Yeah I spent probably about 3-4 hours exploring before I even got the camera. Ended up having to take notes on where to return to. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

You are RIGHT where you get the camera though, and I advise you to go do it right now because one of the things you need to photograph is right there in the same room as the "great circle thing"; the camera thing is kinda interwoven into the objectives of the sidequests, so you don't have to double back and do it.

On sound......anyone notice that NPCs sound like they are right beside you when they are really much further away? Could be because I'm using headphones. I'll need to see if there is a sound setting for this. I've had guys I thought were coming right around the corner but when I peak they are nowhere to be found. On a couple of occasions they were on a different floor. Just bizarre that they sound so close.

where you can spend the medicine vials...

there is a pharmacy nun in an alley over by the right side of the vatican (next to the post office) that will accept them in trade for health or stamina boosting books.

I’d love to play this game but my Xbox broke, and the game crashes on launch on my PC.

I somehow blame adamsapple adamsapple

Phil works in mysterious ways.

On topic, oh good there's things that just straight up list key icons on your map. That's a great help, this game seems like it has a lot of mysteries and shit and my FOMO would kill me or lead me to start using guides down the line.

It’ll win GOTY at the 2025 ones.

Doritos pope will of course give it to his waifu Kojima for Death Stranding 2.

I feel like 2024 was THE year to not miss for a potential GOTY

Kingdom come deliverance 2, Metroid prime 4, Avowed (I still believe damnit!), Monster Hunter wild, GTA 6, Fable, Doom dark ages, Death Stranding 2... It's just so much releases. Might have a chance if GTA 6 is delayed (high chances) and a couple of games don't meet expectations (I think monster hunter will be Dragon's dogma 2 level of disappointment).

But it'll be nominated in many categories at the least, Troy Baker should steal the best VA 100%.

Immersive sims just don't get the hype machine turning. Prey 2017 was seriously overlooked.

But you also have to be careful which one of the two you want, because you can only get one tier3 book in Vatican.

Yes! I have dolby atmos with a nice freaking pair of headphones and at the vatican I heard someone yelling in the distance but I literally thought someone was in the street yelling. I removed my headset to go look from the window and was puzzled for a minute. I said eh, they must have walked by.. then putting the headset back on I heard it again and realized it was from the game. Insane sound quality and 3D spectrum.
