Played through the whole game without leaning. And only today did I learn what the little circles bottom right on your hud mean! 😂
Has anyone EVER repaired anything? I got 10 kits and considered using them on a rifle that I've been using to bash folks but it's so easy to get pick-up weapons I gotta think this system was from an earlier version of the game they just forgot to strip away.

The repair things are everywhere and I've never bothered to use it more than once or twice.

Jeez, I really don’t get how stealth is so widespread in AAA games. It’s just not good unless it’s top-down à la Metal Gear. It makes zero sense to be crouching pretty much everywhere there’s people in this game. Also I get that some high-rank soldiers can get suspicious seeing you even in disguise, but not if they can’t see your face. People getting alert 20 meters away when you’re dressed like a local seriously spoils the exploration. And regular enemies still can spot you before you can even tell them apart from the non-caring crowd most of the time. It’s really annoying.

Locations are done very well, but the over-reliance of a game’s structure on side quests and map markers has really been squeezed for all it’s worth at this point. Forced stealth doesn’t help with that. Fast travel is also somewhat half-assed here.

The game is still interesting, but I’m sure the reception would be much less enthusiastic if this wasn’t Indiana Jones.

I am a HUGE stealth fan and I stopped playing stealth in this game. I don't go out of my way to smack nazis in the face, but I do casually walk in the base as if I own it and just easily dispatch one by one if need be when I dont have a disguise. It's more fun this way. Crouching in this game is a chore besides being visually unappealing with his hands waving around like a lunatic and that dumb shit blue/black screen all around the edges that devs keep adding in all games when crouched. The game is designed to be played part stealth with disguise and part melee combat anyway. The animations of the enemies fumbling around, and getting knocked out is extremely well done and accurate to the movies even if janky. You just need to push towards the main quest whenever ure in a new area until you get some disguise or a quest to get a disguise and then you should start exploring, not before.

I got to himalayas few days ago and haven't launched the game since.
it's a great fun when I was playing it. I notice that sometimes, these games have very low pull power but are actually great when you play.

This. These high-rankers are easily the worst part of the gameplay loop.

Also this game has a serious collect-a-thon problem, way too many of the side activities involve collecting some very uninteresting things (like these weird relics in Gizeh, and the medicines).

Game is v.good, but it's slowly settling into an 8/10 for me.

You just stopped at the best 2 parts in the game. The Himalaya and the one after, won't spoil, are some epic shit. Game needed more of that tbh.

This 100%. I was playing on hard and I just casually walked into bases...might do a little bit of crouching but the ai is so effing blind I feel like they actively wanted the game to kind of be easy and not hinder your enjoyment of just exploring around.

The ai is terrible and the combat is just kind of janky funny but it somehow all clicks together to make a very good experience for the player.

Kind of an odd one.

I will finish it this weekend. I know I have to, I really like the game

Punching enemies in the face or knocking them out with all the objects around is quite fun tbh. Reminds me a bit of Riddick which was also a mix of everything.

Yeah no doubt, if this was made by Ubisoft people would complain a lot about it. It's a very easy game even on the hardest difficulty which is a shame. Still, for some reason,. I'm enjoying collecting everything compared to Ubisoft games, maybe because its more linear/open-ended. Going to go for 100% on this one I think.

I havent finished the game, but the Himalay and the one after are linear/scripted sequences and then you'll reach another hub-like area like the Vatican. After that dunno, because this is where I stopped.

Just started playing after the latest patch. I'm in the first mission in Italy.

So far, it feels like yet another boring AAA slopfest with poor gameplay. I'll give it a bit more time but so far this feels like a quick uninstall.
  • First person was absolutely a mistake.
  • The random change between third and first is immersion breaking.
  • Stamina is just dumb. Should never have been part of the game
  • Game has weird contrast. Needs reshade to fix.
Played a bit more. Already uninstalled.
  • Game is not good looking at all. Lots of ghosting, poor textures, and bad LODs lead to an overall blurry appearance that no amount of ray tracing can fix.
  • Character faces outside of cutscenes look last gen at best
  • I spent time going around the Vatican taking photographs, then I looked at those photos under a magnifying glass to check the box and move on to the next thing. If that's the way you want to start your game, I have no faith in anything you're doing.
  • Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to force you to take out a key, and then turn the key in a lock in order to open a locked door? Jesus fucking Christ.
  • In a lot of ways this game reminds me of Alan Wake 2 or even Hellblade 2. Those were also highly rated game with advanced tech that somehow looked like shit and were incredibly boring.
They should have either made a third person Uncharted clone or a more focused narrative/Telltale-style game.

Very demanding game. On a 4090/Ryzen 7950x3d and 32 gigs of RAM I'm not getting more than 60 fps without framegen. ( everything maxed out, 1440p res.) holy shit.

I think the thought behind these "left stick to operate" mechanics (doors, drawers, chests, chains, etc) is to make you cognizant of when you found a key to get through a specific door, or solved a locked chest versus just open one. And I think it's linked to breaking your 'cover', as I've had guys jump me for opening a chest. They wanted an extra step so you wouldn't just hit X accidentally or without realizing what might happen and then you are attacked. Now I agree it's not a terribly well realized mechanic most times, but I THINK that was the design decision for those things early on and they just kept it.

I think I will do things that have narrative or story focus and ignore the rest, already collected a ton of adventure books so Indy is reasonably powerful now (did two boxing rings back to back with no sweat lol).

I don't think it's that deep. I think they did it as a way to enhance immersion.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Anyone find the discarded key for the guy locked into the tower in Gizeh? Or the gold watch for the worker in the Vatican?

I wonder how many of these tiny quests I've just breezes right by because I didn't listen to conversations closely enough.

FWIW, those quests just result in a little bit of adventure points, which doesn't really matter much.

And yes, I think I only did a couple of them through the game too.

So i think a quick press of the right trigger when holding the revolver will start the reloading sequence.

And my brother in law is married to a Thai girl and she confirms that the language and recipes in Siam are legit :p

Yeah, and it's real fucking slow. Not that the game encourages you to use guns at all, ever.

I like the mechanic that in most of the game, as long as you don't escalate by taking a gun out, the enemies don't either.

It's definitely a weird one.

Is the AI good? Absolutely not. It's terrible.

Are the combat animations smooth? Nope. It's pretty janky.

How is the stealth? Terrible. The enemy is blind.

Yet where in most games these would be downsides, there's just something about it that all kind of works. I think it's the campy Indiana vibe to it all. I just don't care that some of the gameplay systems aren't great. The vibe of it all and rotating from hammer to guitar to dustpan to beat people down with is just good fun.

The keys though I gotta give it to them… Press right on the DPad, tap X, and then turn to open a door. This is like waggle. Just tapping X should be enough, no less immersive :D.

On the graphics side it is outstanding but there is a far bit of visible detail streaming / lighting getting recomputed as you move around. Still a gorgeous games I can hardly put down mind you :D.

Quoting this just for relevance. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I feel like the enemy faction disguises were too good. Once you have them, there’s no reason to wear anything else unless you HAVE to (e.g. needing the priest outfit to get into certain Vatican areas, or having to be in the default outfit to go to the village in Sukhothai).

I wore the Blackshirt, Wehrmacht, and Royal Army uniforms a good 90% of the time after I got them. It completely obliterated the need for stealth because only the very small amount of captains or guard dogs could detect you and they didn’t really change how people interacted with you. Like in Gizeh, no one in the worker’s area or the village gave a damn if I walked around dressed up like a Nazi, they interacted the same as if I was in the standard Indy outfit. So why wear anything else when that outfit had no downsides and let me go into every restricted area without consequence?

Would have been nice if the costumes were less effective and had more consequences for use.

Lack of access to the hat 'recharge' and the pistol for some of the other outfits was a slight tactical choice. But I agree, it would have been nice if the costumes had more features/downsides (like losing the whip as well so parts of the map became unavailable). I did get busted a few times changing out in the open so was some effort put into detecting that stuff at least.

This game is awesome, it just gets better and better, was already my GOTY back in Vatican but they keep on finding ways to make it more interesting and improve it further. The map layout must be top 3 this decade, there is so much to find and so many ways to reach areas and improvise. Bethesda should consult Machinegames to make the map in The Elder Scrolls VI.
I don’t want it to end… 28 hours played so far, at the Himalayas

Its only pretty in static. Sadly the game has one of the worst popin/lod ive ever seen in my life. Its more distracting in the final hub where everything in front of you changes its lod. Its insane how the devs saw that and said yeah its fine. It drops the visuals of the game significantly. Ive never noticed this issue in doom games so machinegames fucked up.

OMFG. I had the worst bug. The fight with Locus was bugged. He is supposed to go down and then the big snake comes. This didn't happen. I fought him twice for almost an hour thinking crazy shit. Thinking I needed to make a certain number of combos without fucking up. Some dude posted similar somewhere. I was fucking furious at the game design and starting to doubt myself. Long story short, rebooted and beat him in about 1 minute. Madness. Never had a cut scene not trigger in a boss fight causing the fight to never end.

I finished the game 2 nights ago

Stuck making 100% progress due to note bugs and some last ancient artifacts I can't even see on the map :messenger_downcast_sweat: Hopefully a patch soon to fix it so I 100% the game or it'll be uninstalled.

Anyway

Last open segment with the boat on the river drags a bit the game down imo. I much prefered the Vatican and Gizeh. Walking around and exploring is a ton more fun than the boat sequence. Still, amazing game, magnificient, best Indiana Jones anything since the OG movies. The snake sequence underwater was cool.

Critique : Not enough "traps" like the prologue. I would think there would be weight sensitive traps and so on more than that. Almost all traps are forced and often with cinematic. If they were to ever make a sequel, adding a sense of danger while exploring tombs rather than running everywhere and climbing without any danger would have made it even more Indiana Jones. The uniforms you find also make the game a bit too trivial in Gizeh and Sukhothai

9/10 game still

Troy Baker has to win best voice actor at next video game awards.

Emmerich Voss is the best villain in years, hilarious even. His "I know KARA-TE" line was perfect :messenger_tears_of_joy:. His constant smirk is perfect.

Can't wait to see what that team does next. Probably not Indiana Jones, but whatever it is, immersive sim FPS, bring it on. If Riddick was not a dead franchise, I would love a gory immersive sim in the same vein.

Lol you had to touch up reshade and contrast did you? Looks better without it if you ask me
At least wait with it for 2nd playthrough with it :p

Anyway - I am on last level now and I am not as enthusiastic about it anymore. I kinda was falling asleep on this evening session.
Same as you. It's a good game but the open areas got kinda tiresome. Especially the 3rd open area. it's still OK but it dragged.
The linear levels before it were very cool though.
The fights became kinda spongy though. I am not enjoying that as much. Climbing is very slow and methodical even with that speed up skill.

I like the graphics, love the cutscenes and everything. Indy is a bit wooden though.
One more highlight, I loved the snow deformation in that snow level. It's the first game with snow deformation that's actually deep and not ankle deep.
And what's with no weapons inventory? Makes me throw hammers and pistols to ledge up or ladder up areas... And he drops the fucking weapons doing everything.
I understand why they did it but if there is still an option to throw the weapon to another section and pick it up there, I will do it and it ends up being a hassle.

It's 7.5-8/10 for me though. Maybe will be better once I finish it. Very solid game. one of best this year for sure. Just kinda boring this evening. Uncharted 4 is in another dimmension honestly.

I get this with pretty much every game.

It's called aging in my case lolll

But I do finish some games here and there.

I surtenly do not do 12 hour runs anymore like when I was 12 though. Good old times on the nes and snes with final fantasy 1..2 and 3.

These were the best gaming times ever.

Got to the all to brief side mission with

Might just be me but the final 20-30 minutes were very disappointing. The payoff for how good the story was up until then just wasn't there.

It sort of left a little sour taste in my mouth because I enjoyed the rest of the game a fair bit.
