Jet collides with helicopter near D.C.

AJUMP23

Parody of actual AJUMP23
I don't understand why the Helicopter was allowed to fly across the flight paths like that? Shouldn't airports have exclusion zones around active routes?
They do. And this is why it is suspicious. The DC approach does not let passengers stand up 30 minutes prior to arrivals. Ever since 9/11.

DC is a highly regulated airport

According to the news conference, above the river is an official flight path for helicopters, and it is regularly flown. Maybe they’ll change that going forward, but I doubt it.

Seem that the helicopters are allowed to just zoom across when the helicopter pilot see that things are clear. Amazing to me that something like that is allowed in the first place.

Yeah, with AI it can perform the jobs like that easier - plus if planes and helicopters can connect to each other they can in theory receive signals and automatically avoid collisions.

From what I read there is a good possibility that the helicopter wasn't flying with an ADSB.

Ehhhh, this is the side of Trump I dislike. Let your nice professional spokeperson say this in a much more smooth fashion. Now isn't the time to say this stuff, especially when all the facts aren't laid out. It feels like sides are being drawn, the facts, such as they may be, will be hammered into whatever shape necessary, and an ACTUAL source of error and potential solution will be swept away by infighting.

The policy changes within the government are immediately noticeable. I'm already hearing chatter in meetings about removing mentions of DEI, and how policy changes will impact various things going forward. It's very interesting.

I do think Trump will end up putting his foot in mouth here. I agree that aviation requires the best of the best and we shouldn't lower standards in any capacity. However, I doubt the people involved here were "DEI". True "DEI" hires generally have roles that are a joke, at least from what I've experienced.

They literally had cabinet positions and upper management / lead secretary roles the past 4 years.

Do you forget all the unqualified men in dresses that were in charge of key branches and letter agencies?

At least this bullet was dodged,

Well, we will get a deep dive into the servicemembers on board. If they were senior leaders taking their mistresses on a joyride that will come out, if only to deflect from any notion that DEI had a hand in it. Highly likely there were only white men on that helo because that's the large majority of who is flying these things. Same with the airliner, I can count the number of non-white male pilot/co-pilots I've seen in a dozen domestic flights in the past year or two on just one hand, probably just a few fingers at most.

Oh, I'm not saying there aren't examples of absolute buffoonery. I'm just speaking from my experience with DEI. The people given roles they aren't qualified for because they have the right immutable characteristics rarely last.

Do I think DEI played a role in this tragedy? No. But an investigation will confirm that. If it was a factor, it's going to be show and likely the final nail in the DEI coffin.

This is the side of Trump true Americans like, no nonsense, blaming who needs to be blamed, not accepting anything from the media.
No that isn't what Trump did, with zero evidence he is looking for a scapegoat. We don't know who or what is to blame neither does Trump he just went after DEI shit because they are using this as the "bogey man" ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh DEI is coming for your family. I don't even approve of DEI shit myself but to start laying out the blame this soon is irresponsible

If you watch the whole press briefing, all he did was spin it around on them, since some of the questions asked were blaming him and his new staff.

Kind of like how ideologues didn't complain about the price of eggs/groceries for 4 years, until January 20th, 2025. The same price of eggs that shot up in January due to the Biden admin ordering the slaughter 100million chickens in December 2024 the month prior causing a supply/demand issue.

Reporters are not asking the right questions. They mostly never do.

Exactly, Trump and Musk are several steps ahead of these goons. DEI, Trans hires and so forth are just shaking in their non-binary boots because they're finally being blamed for their actions.

Cant believe this was turned into a DEI debate. I highly doubt they hired people with severe disablities to be air traffic controllers at the main Airport in the Nation's capital. But if thats the case then fine, do the investigation and let this be a lesson going forward.

What you cant do is simply detect an African American accent on a 911 call and assume that black woman was a diversity hire. She very likely earned that incredibly difficult job. And we dont even know the facts yet, there is no way the Black Hawk pilots who are even more trained and skilled were themselves DEI hires.

Let's wait for the investigation and if its an ATC error then maybe we can see if she was promoted without passing the test. Or if she was hired despite poor performance. For all we know, she was probably the best ATC up there in that control tower. It's not common sense to assume that just because shes black, she's a diversity hire. It's common sense to investigate and find out the facts because accusing someone of being a diversity hire.

"As families grieve, Trump should be leading, not lying. We put safety first, drove down close calls, grew Air Traffic Control, and had zero commercial airline crash fatalities out of millions of flights on our watch.Trump now oversees the military and the FAA. One of his first acts was to fire and suspend some of the key personnel who helped keep our skies safe. Time for the President to show actual leadership and explain what he will do to prevent this from happening again."

"January 20: FAA director fired
January 21: Air Traffic Controller hiring frozen
January 22: Aviation Safety Advisory Committee disbanded
January 28: Buyout/retirement demand sent to existing employees
January 29: First American mid-air collision in 16 years"

Is this true?
This is the nonsense being spread online by the lefty DEIs, those policies would take much longer to kick into effect before it had an impact.

The same inexperienced guy who was AWOL when there were many train derailments, chemical spills, planes crashing into animal farms and ships taking out bridges. All they do is gaslight and have no privilege to take the moral high ground.

Likely all true, or partially true but this is also all over twitter and twitter is full of half truths and nonsense.

Hiring freezes, replacing FAA directors and buyouts are not responsible for this crash. It's too early in the game to be blaming people let alone policies that take months if not years to pay dividends.
