Song shits, much better than Applause (which I liked). I like that the production isn't a busy mess this time too.

Those sales receipts aren't very good you know...

Well DWUW's are good since it's just a promo single, that's about what Dark Horse sold iirc.

Track is alright, but im not feeling it as much as most of you
Could just be a grower though, Judas was definitely that for me.

I guess Im gonna wait for the itunes stream before I commit to this album. Edge of Glory was such an amazing single to me and got me hyped, but then Born This Way turned out less than stellar aside from a few tracks I dug. Dont wanna get burned again.

I'm not digging the ARTPOP snippet. I think I prefer her live voice compared to the processed one. Maybe I'll grow to love the album version, idk.

There is definitely less "strength" in her vocals than the live rendition, but I feel like it might ramp itself up in the second verse with all the HEE HEEs :p

tbh I'd rather a bold and loud live performance with a kind of processed studio version - not the other way around like for some other artists :keir:

I feel that the added vocal effects increase the song's feeling of psychedelia, and that the live version could never compare because of it. I cannot wait for the full thing.

OMFG didn't know this awesome place for some ARTPOP <3
I just ~LOVE~ Gaga, can't wait to listen the full album!

I've listening so much to the iTunes songs that I'm already kinda sick of them ahahah. Really, I'm just... CRAZY about ARTPOP <3

(But now I must admit that I'm pretty addicted to PS4 in Brazil's Theme - Work B*tch)

Welcome! I've decided to put a blackout on the iTunes songs too now, since I want to kind of forget them and be slain by the studio versions.

To recap today's events

Do What U Want is now the official 2nd single due to the positive reception it received. The song has already been sent to radio.

Venus will still be released on Monday with a snippet on Friday as planned but has been demoted to a promo single. Venus will still have a video though

I feel like Gaga and her label had a fight about that.

Will surely be awkward if Venus does really well on Monday too, though I'm sure Interscope is happy to have a hit regardless. Hope DWYW sustains itself on the charts. At least Venus can be a backup in case it drops like a rock (like all promo songs do)

I'm really confused about how this is going to work - doesn't she have performances that she's designed lined up? And what about a video? Surely she can't just rush one without it being a mess?

Oh my this reminded me of the beginning of BTW era.

The funny part is that I'm loving ARTPOP but I miss "The Fame Monster" and "Born this Way" days.

I'm not telling that they are better than what we know about ARTPOP, but I guess I love so much theses 2 albums that I want more and more, even that I love new and different stuff.

(And I must confess that I don't enjoy so much listening to "The Fame" nowadays, the only song that I really love from that era is Paparazzi - that could easily be a "The Fame Monster" single).

I can understand that sentiment. The Fame Monster was easily Gaga's best era musically so far (even if I do like BTW).

It's hard to compete with Bad Romance + Telephone + Speechless.

Also, the only thing that I didn't like on BTW Ball was that she didn't sing Speechless (and Paparazzi is kinda lame too). It's one of my favorite songs ever =(

This is the thing that bothers me most, as she puts out more and more albums most of her older stuff is going to be neglected live. :(

There was a certain grit and rawness to the Born This Way era that I really loved. Judas in particular is the kind of song I hope to see on ARTPOP in some way. It's so loud and busy, and never holds back.

Whereas the songs I've heard so far from ARTPOP end up leaving me wanting more, Born This Way gave me EVERYTHING it could give me in each 4 minute song. Even if you weren't a fan of the songs, you have to appreciate how committed she was to maxing herself out completely with each track.

DWUW is a great track but like Applause I end up wishing I got more and more out of it. It might make more sense within the context of the album (and I'm starved for Gaga material anyway) but that's the difference for me so far.

ARTPOP is definitely the evolved version of the Fame Monster at this point; polished, clean, but holding back in a way.

Hm.. Just listening to the Spotify versions of DWUW to identify the differences between the explicit and clean versions and wow, the clean version sucks. You can't even really hear "Fuck!" in the explicit one anyway.

Also, why is everyone saying that R.Kelly is singing that part? Pretty sure it's Gaga. Especially on when the line drops a note, the tonal quality definitely sounds like Gaga.

I suppose we'll have to wait for a live performance to see.

This song has really grown on me. At first it it sounded like solid bop, but after listening to it with headphones, everything about the production meshes together so perfectly:

  • The harmony choice when she sings "You won't use my mind/You don't own my life."
  • Her soft, inviting delivery of "Do what you want, what you want with my body. Do what you want, don't stop, let's party" at the intro, like it's a challenge to the listener.
  • The contrast of R.Kelly's soft RnB vocal to Gaga's harsh, gritty screams. Even if it were unintentional, it's contextually appropriate considering she's writing about being devoid of any romantic involvement with her lover.
  • The build to the bridge/outro (I can't wait to hear how she sounds live).
  • Whatever instrument that has a synthesized xylophone/steel drum quality to it.

Artpop is shaping up to be her best album yet.

There is a listening party happening soon in Berlin. Gaga will be playing Gypsy on piano and it will be live streamed, though the streams seem to be exclusive to Germany at the moment.

We'll get some capture or something sooner or later, though. Even some impressions from those who are attending too.

YASSSS! I want to hear some Gypsy!

She didn't sell Gypsy as hard as she could have, but telling from the melodies and intonation it's going to be stellar. Gypsy and Venus are definitely my most anticipated.
