It's been awful quiet on the PS5Pro front. Very sad and frustrating.

Diablo: terrible pro support
Silent Hill 2: lazy pro support
Helldivers: Lazy
Astro bot. Nada... really???
COD: lazy
Uncharted: Nada... really????
Mortal Kombat 1 : lazy(ish)
Dead Space remake: nothing? Really ea don't you want some more buyers?
Cyberpunk: seriously?? Nothing? You also don't want some more PS5 sales. Just doing something and showcasing it... sales.

Like really. Really?

If every game you listed was patched for PS5 Pro you'd still be complaining.

You listed 9 games.

There are 99 games with official PS5 Pro enhancements either out already or coming out soon.

But please keep being "very sad and frustrated."

An EA intern could probably add something. But good on them saving that time and all those resources and keeping that Dead Space IP on life support.

Over 2 million in sales isn't bad. Maybe if they didn't pander and make Isaac girlfriend 10+ years older than him they would have gotten a few more sales. Jk 😉

Did you really want all the games listed in my post? I gave the games I have and played on the pro. If we took a poll I'm near positive most would side towards disappointment. And many games that got patches are a disappointment. Period. But you go ahead and bemoan my complaints and give gold stars. At the very least this thread finally moved a bit. As it's been dead here.

I'm not giving out gold stars, silver stars, or bronze stars.

The system literally launched like 3 months ago and there are over 90 games available. If you have a game that isn't patched or the patch isn't good, focus on the games that are patched and patched well. There are new games being patched every week in addition to the new games coming out.

GAF is always disappointed with everything, it's the default m.o. for posters here. If it weren't these 9 games you listed, it would be another 9 games.

There are some games you listed which will probably be patched at some point, have received updates that you're probably ignoring (like Silent Hill 2), and there are some games that probably don't make sense to patch at all. There are some good reasons why some games won't get official patches or get PSSR.

Helldivers 2 is a perfect example of that. The engine they used to make Helldivers 2 is no longer supported and it probably doesn't have any provisions for AI Upscaling, plus that team is beyond busy trying to create new content.

I'd love a Returnal PS5 Pro patch, but Housemarque is a really small team. I can see why there wouldn't be a patch yet or maybe ever.

You mentioned Astro Bot... what is a PS5 Pro patch going to do for Astro Bot? That was a laughable addition.

This week in PS5 Pro:

Assassin's Creed Shadows confirmed PS5 Pro (not sure if this was confirmed earlier)
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black released with Pro support
Doom The Dark Ages confirmed PS5 Pro support
Expedition 33 confirmed PS5 Pro Support

Just 10 days ago Dynasty Warriors Origins released for PS5 Pro

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 launches with PS5 Pro support next week

Within a month Monster Hunter Wilds will launch with PS5 Pro support

Not sure how you can justify saying, "things are quiet" with a straight face...

Great response, love that you had some wants for patches to games that you love. I really just want the same, I appreciate the work done, and there has been some amazing support by some of the devs. That being said there has been very poor support as well. And us having a discussion helps keep the spark alive for more work being done.

As for Astro Bot, Mortal Kombat gave a little bump to us Pro adopters (I mean a small bump) they could literally do anything and plaster on the pro support badge. It's a Sony playstation propaganda/mascot game!!

That would have an overall negative reaction. DF and others would chide Sony for slapping a "Pro" label on the game to boost sales and call it damn near false advertising. The game doesn't need a patch at all and so better to leave it alone.

Ok, looks like we should leave Asto Bot as is. What other games shouldn't get a pro patch then? That's seems a popular discussion.
Any game you list should NOT be patched. At least here on GAF.

I'm with you seems messy and certain games not getting anything seems strange to me.

From shouldn't touch any of their games, they'll just make them run worse on the pro.

Jokes aside, one of the best "features" of the pro is that games with performance issues on the base machine run much better by default. Devs that couldn't make their games run well on the PS5 can't be trusted to make a good pro patch, just leave it as it is running better instead of risking things.

I agree it's been quiet. But you know why? Because games are in rather good condition.
SH2 - I agree with you
Helldivers - just fine
Astro bot - was 4k60, is 4k60
COD - One of better updates
Uncharted - is now 4k60
MortalmKombat - fine
Dead Space - Agree with you
Cyberpunk - same with witcher. Lame
Did helldivers 2 even fix implementation. Performance mode before didn’t upscale unless you changed to fidelity then back to performance. I have not played it for a week but it definitely didn’t feel like a final patch.

I can name plenty of games that would benefit patching for Pro that are not. I can name plenty of games that need patching for PS5 from PS4 that are not as well. I can name games in either case that really wouldn't benefit. Why is it suddenly strange that not all games are patched for the newest hardware?

Games I want patches for

The Witcher 3
Cyberpunk 2077
Resident Evil 2 and 3
Final Fantasy 16
Final Fantasy 7 remake intergrade
Returnal
Ghost of Tsushima directors cut
God of War 2018 (never got a native ps5 release)

There are shitton of indie, non-AAA games out there. Games like Octopath Traveler 2 and Hades. No one is asking for patches for those. I think most every AAA game would probably benefit, but that doesn't mean they will get patched. For some, just too much time has gone by and there isn't enough interest.

pretty much locked 60 in game play, however it drops to 40~50 in the cutscenes which I think is very stupid.

The game does NOT use PSSR, but overall acceptable image quality with the usual ghosting artifacts here and there.
I see, its decent upgrade. Thank you. PSSR possibly will be the next update in the future.

Helldivers 2 is pro enhanced? How?

As I understand it, performance mode runs at 1440p instead of 1080p.

Yeah it runs 1440p. Much nicer IQ, although the jaggies are quite visible still.
Every time you start the game you have to change to fidelity then back to performance for it to actually work. It’s absolutely cleaner than the original version. But yeah, it was kind of done low-key because I don’t think it was supposed to really be out in full other than this method. Seems like a half step until they have full implementation.

I always thought ray tracing was a meme, so I always turn it off when I start a game.

Somehow, I forgot to do this for RE4 Remake. After a few hours in, I turned it off to improve the framerate.
To my surprise, the game suddenly looked flat and bland.
And to be honest, the frame rate gain wasn't worth the game suddenly looking much uglier.

Anybody else noticed this, or am I just seeing things (literally)?

Well I'll be, it works. I just tested it and the difference is very tangible.

A little disappointed with the PSSR implementation in GOW Ragnarok. Image quality is great, but it stutters like crazy in some parts, especially when you are in the dwarves' reign it constantly stutters. I switched from PSSR to TAA and stuttering is 90% solved.

Also I can't really tell the difference in image quality between PSSR and TAA, but TAA definitely improves performance. PSSR probably is recommnended for VRR-enabled TV, mine is only 60 HZ.

This is where things will be interesting. As an owner of both the Pro and Series X and having Gamepass, will it be better to play these games on Gamepass or do I fork money to play them on the Pro - IF the enhancements look good?

Good problem to have but I wonder if anyone else is thinking the same.
Same boat. From what I could tell it wasn't $50 difference in performance/Image quality. So I played on Gamepass.

RE4 only uses RT for reflections as far as I know and in most of the game you won't even notice the difference, maybe in some specific rooms or during the lake section.

Then I look at this short and noticed the Series X version (obviously) doesn't look like that in comparison. That's where I get conflicted. But as you say, $50 may not be worth it for this title.

It got even better?

Why can't more developers be like Striking Distance studios? Seriously, not only have they done some of the best work on Pro but they've actually listened to what gamers want instead of just slapping PSSR on their game and called it a day like the majority of devs who've released Pro patches.

And listen to what they're saying, they didn't have to patch this game considering it was rejected by the gaming mainstream and didn't sell anywhere CLOSE to other games, ones with much greater sales potential due to a potential Pro patch. They're literally thanking us ..they're grateful to be able to do what companies like Sony and CD Project and SquareEnix SHOULD be doing: updating your games for the people who shelled out money for better hardware! Let me just remind some of you that Sony hasn't updated 8 big, important exclusives for the Pro still ...this should be an outrage to anyone who bought a Pro who isn't a Sony fanboy.

CD Project just released the umpteenth update for Cyberpunk for PC. Every time Nvidia has some minor improvement in their pipeline, Cyberpunk gets an update. For PS5 Pro? Despite the fact that the "next gen update" they released TWO YEARS ago was mediocre to begin with they still can't be assed with updating their game now that we have the hardware to run it well....

Only in console gaming could a system like the Pro release and devs get away with ignoring it and that's the crux of why this console is a disappointment. It has nothing to do with the hardware itself but the piss poor support it's getting...where's Plague Tale Requiem and FF16 patches? Those are two games that also really need updates and two games that did way better both critically and sales wise than Callisto Protocol ....look at the difference in respect that some devs have (like Striking Distance) and others like Sony have for their customer base....this is why I get so angry with Sony and CdProject because instead of being grateful and doing the RIGHT thing by their most ardent supporters they literally do the opposite.

Lol. Sorry. Now I wish I hadn't brought it up. I've made up my mind to just pick it up on the PS6 (and hopefully brute force every bottleneck)
There's always something....I noticed it on Koboh into the distance. The good news is its only stuff that's way out into the distance but it's still noticeable and disappointing that we can never just get a great update that improves everything with some of these developers ...

Silent Hill 2 being a prime examples...Bloober only bothered to fix one mode and just ignores fixes for Quality mode .. its rediculous

Managed to get through it though. Played on Quality till the very end. It was bad at the very beginning and the very end at the hotel. The rest was perfectly ignorable, so I pretended it was all part of the ambience! No way I could hold out on that one till the PS6. It was awesome (and gorgeous too)

Nah . He's absolutely right to be "sad and frustrated" and I could add 10 more disappointments to his list. It's only the Sony fanboys that don't seem to see how bad a deal we're getting from our money with this system. The support hasn't been good and too many games have extremely meagre upgrades. Every single one of those games would be improved on PC if someone spent $700 upgrading their system. Sony, the console MAKER, the ones who charged $800 for the console on the promise of it actually improving games, hasn't even patched at least EIGHT exclusives! Exclusives that are all much better on their PC counterparts! And your going to try to mock the people who are not happy about this??

Agreed 💯

It's all very lazy. And again, lazy from those devs who have obviously done little to nothing. Now I've gotten hit with the devs owe us nothing unless they make money from it. I'll raise that and say Sony should be force demanding that their new fancy machine be used to its fullest by the devs (especially those under the PS umbrella).

I bought the PS5 Pro for enhanced future games, not expecting the older catalogue to be widely improved.

Your expectations were not rational. We have the PS4 Pro to look at for what to expect.

Yeah its super odd, isnt it? This was the high framerate mode, I only changed RT setting.

Although it's not a PS5 Pro-enhanced game, Forspoken is comfortable to play on the Pro.
The DRS resolution (PS5 720p- * Performance Mode) is visibly improved, and the frame rate is high, so it's comfortable to play.
I played for more than 10 hours just to try it out, and it was fun, and I made it to the ending.
