Looks like Dragon Age: The Veilguard just received its final major update

BioWare appears to have bid farewell to any further updates for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, following the launch this week of the game's Patch 5.

Patch notes for the update thank fans for playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard over the past few months while some small additional quality of life features have been implemented.

BioWare goes on to state that it is now happy the game is in a "stable place" and will move to monitoring for any reports of game-breaking bugs, should these occur.

The patch notes finish with "Dareth shiral!" - meaning 'farewell', or 'safe journey' in the game's Elvish language. It really sounds like this is it.

Earlier this week, EA said Dragon Age: The Veilguard had missed the publisher's own internal targets, after it "engaged" 1.5 million players between October 2024 and the end of the year, "down nearly 50 percent from the company's expectations".

Last week, Eurogamer published the first statement from Dragon Age: The Veilguard game director Corinne Busche, discussing her exit from the studio.

While large updates to Dragon Age: The Veilguard were not expected and BioWare had already ruled out the prospect of DLC, fans have still reacted in surprise at the sudden end to any further small additions.

There had been some hope of a New Game Plus mode being added, for example, as well as further cosmetic options for character clothing designs.

Instead, Patch 5 contains a number of small bug fixes, and one final quality of life change: "Recommended levels have been added to side quests that players may receive at significantly lower levels."

I think they should also update the PSSR version to the version that Jedi Survivor is using. It’s ok on the Pro but I think it should be better.

Welp, this is the end of Bioware as we know it. No way in the heck is EA going to allow this studio to continue any longer. Mass Effect 4 (or 5, if Andromeda is the fourth installment) might as well be canceled if it's still in pre-production, and from the way how woke af Failguard is, I think it would be for the best.

Losing 6 BILLION dollars in value thanks to this turd flopping like a sack of potatoes will make even the most out-of-touch executive EA clench their desks hard enough to break wood.

Eurogamer in shambles, lol. Who even uses that site anymore except a few unhinged activists pretending to be gamers. I bet very few of them even bought the game, but I'm sure they fiercely defended it in comment section though, haha. I'm sure Reddit is traumatised by what happened to Veilguard too, lolz.

The amount of manipulation surrounding this game pre-release- meant to trick unwary customers into buying what they thought was a Dragon Age game - makes me have very little sympathy for its subsequent failure. "Return to form" is now another term that, when used by gaming media, is a red flag.

That aside, I'm curious how EA is going to deal with Bioware going forward. They already got rid of Busche, who was clearly one of the biggest problems with how the game turned out, but I wonder if the remainder will be given even more money and time to likely mess up Mass Effect too.

I'm seeing the same thing with Assassin's Creed previews now, it's a return to form apparently, lol. This one is gonna be a big test though if inserting woke elements in mega franchise can hurt it to a meaningful degree. Assassin's Creed fanbase is mainly braindead like Call of Duty fanbase, they'll keep buying them games no matter what. It may sell well still, but if meaningful amount of money is lost then that's all it takes.

It may still sell to some hardcore AC fans and AC has huge fanbase, but that’s it, it’s dead beyond that.

Forget about expanding or taking the franchise to higher level, right now they just want to get their money back

Hate for this game is so overblown for its DEI stuff.
The reality is that it just played it a bit too safe and choices didn't feel like they mattered a ton. I thought overall it was really polished, ran great, gameplay systems were well designed, and characters were relatively memorable compared to other games.
But people these days just love controversy and getting on a hate train without even thinking first.
We had Hogwarts, we have Veilguard, different sides of a coin, same triggered childish response.

Hogwarts and Veilguard are not different sides of the same coin. One of those games respected its franchise and fans and the other shit all over its franchise and fans. I'll let you decide which one succeeded and which one failed.

Wrapping it up just in time for BioWare to get shut down after their investor meeting (is that next week?)
I think the Edmonton studio is done. Austin may get a shot at Mass Effect. That game may be the least infected DEI game you've ever seen because the studio is on life support. Which beg the question, if devs know people hate this shit and it doesn't sell, or in some cases actively hurts the sales of the game, then why do they keep putting it in there.

The initial trailer didnt show any woke stuff, and yet as someone who was extremely excited for a new dragon age, i immediately lost all interest

Not surprising. They can't patch a whole new concept into the game, or intricate RPG mechanics the game is lacking, nor completely rewrite the game's story, dialogues and characters. On a technical side, the game was already well-optimised in the beginning and bugs and glitches were few.

There's nothing left to do with this game that could be done realistically with patches.

EA are absolute fools if they move forward with BioWare developing the next Mass Effect. It doesn’t make sense from a business perspective. BioWare have released 3 games since Inquisition, none of them have been a hit. They have a history of bad leadership and management, and it’s clear they have no talent left at their studio. Devoting another 5 years of resources and time to an incompetent studio, seems insane at this point.

"Characters relatively memorable compared to other games"

What other games? FIFA sports?

Yeah, still don't get why this game make so many people angry.
I didn't think the writing was great around the trans portion but it was a wholesome attempt to shed some light on what a person who is affected by it might go through. I guess I don't understand why it's so hard to look past those sections, given they are optional and dialog is skippable, and just enjoy the rest of a rather cool game. A lot of the characters had really interesting inner struggles, game was very much about finding yourself and being at peace with who you are.
Then there's this Yasuke thing for AC. People losing their minds because it's not "historically accurate". Since when is AC a history documentary? Quite frankly I can't see it being anything other than not wanting a black character. To me it just reminds me of that cool black samurai in Guilty Gear Strive and no one bitched about that.
I just think there is too much bitching about small petty things. People just too sensitive these days and feel they need to react to everything like they are fighting some holy war of truth. There used to be a time these same people were screaming horror about women voting, blacks having rights, and gays being accepted. This new stuff is so mild in comparison and still people have a stick up their ass.
Things just stay the same and people don't necessarily learn nuances. Or maybe we just have a lot of angry kids with too much time on their hands.

So I took that approach and figured well it's "only" a little cutscene, and I've said all along that the technical merit of the game is decent but as someone who got the plat for this game the trans stuff is sooo sprinkled all over it's not just a scene, it's absolutely obnoxious and to me it needs cut out of the game because there's just moments you don't realize until it's too late that youre now entertaining conversations about non binary and other mentally ill bullshit, and it is absolutely immersion breaking in every way. It'd be like the characters talking about what's on Netflix that weekend when they aren't killing gods and dragons.

It ruined the game, it has some nice landscapes and areas but the director wanted to tell his story and it's absolutely apparent, ridiculous and nothing but a self insert lecture so people have every right imo. Infact even tho I love bioware the old bioware is gone and these asshats I hope are dissolved soon, maybe mass effect saves them but I don't see it.
