Lucasfilm Boss Kathleen Kennedy Expected to Retire This Year

adamsapple

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

After more than a decade in a galaxy far, far away, Kathleen Kennedy is charting a course toward retirement. The Lucasfilm boss has told associates she plans to retire by the end of 2025, Puck reported Monday night.

Reps for Kennedy and Lucasfilm were not immediately available for comment.

Kennedy joined Lucasfilm in 2012 as co-chair alongside Star Wars creator George Lucas, and a few months later took the reins after Disney paid $4 billion for the company and Lucas exited.
As Lucasfilm boss, Kennedy held one of the most visible and scrutinized jobs in Hollywood, and it was not always smooth sailing. She fired Chris Lord and Phil Miller as directors of Solo: A Star Wars Story in the middle of production. (The film went on to be the first Star Wars movie to lose money theatrically.) She also sidelined Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards, replacing him with Tony Gilroy, who was brought on to oversee reshoots. (The film became a $1 billion hit). Other projects were promised that never materialized, such as Rian Johnson’s trilogy, and another one overseen by Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Benioff and David Weiss. Daisy Ridley’s upcoming return to Star Wars has been languishing in development since being announced to fanfare almost two yaers ago.
Kennedy’s storied career includes work with Steven Spielberg and husband Frank Marshall, with collaborations including Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Gremlins (1984), The Color Purple (1985), The Goonies (1985), Empire of the Sun (1987), Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and the Back to the Future trilogy (1985-1990) and the Indiana Jones films, which concluded with last year’s Dial of Destiny. In all, she has produced more than 70 films and been nominated for eight Oscars.
The news comes ahead of April’s Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, where the future of the Star Wars franchise is expected to be unveiled.

Good but far too late, imho. Disney have killed all the enthusiasm I had for Star Wars...

I am also still pissed that they made Kyle Katarn non-canon. The Star Wars: Jedi Knight games (especially 2 and 3) are still the best Star Wars games ever made and Disney basically threw them into the trash. Fuck Disney.

I doubt he was canon to Lucas and most fans.

And she will hand pick the replacement.

Face it, SW fans, your stuff is Perma ruined and it isn't coming back.

Don't hurt too bad, thank goodness we still have the game indus-

Nevermind.
I've moved on. I genuinely have stopped caring about it now. Never thought i'd be so totally apathetic to Star Wars, but Disney really did a great job ruining it.

Chris lord and Phil Miller are excellent and i had totally forgotten she fired them. I already had a super low opinion of her but that's the icing on the cake.

Just watched across the spider verse so those 2 are on my mind

don't get your hopes up, this won't change anything. This is the future of all successful entertainment.
Wot mate?

I don't think Star Wars has earned a dime in quite some time. D+ shows ain't doing well, merch is in the toilet, no movies in sight. Baby Yoda has been carrying the entire thing for years.

The thing i hate about her rein is that you can't lev3l criticism at her without being labeled a sexist.

The indy sequels were bad especially her 1st.

Each film in the new trilogy made less and less indicating lack of popularity: $2.1 billion to $1.3 billion to$1 billion.

They didn't have any story boards for the new trilogy. JJ left material for Rian and it all got trashed. Kathleen doesn't even know the full story even though she's supposed to be the creative head

Merchandise (what star wars is based off of) has fallen off a cliff and the Disney hotels are failures

Fired Miller and lord causing the movie to tank and let disney to stop making movies and do shows

Only 2 successful shows, andor and mando.

You think she gives a damn about an Oscar?
Half the critics can't even stomach her, let alone stand her.
I can't stomach her either. She was responsible for killing any interest I had in Star Wars.
Not sure what that has to do with Kyle Katarn and Jedi Knight, though.

Agree for the top half, disagree for the bottom. The American side of the Western Game's Industry is cooked, but Europe still puts out solid titles, and Asia is killing it right now.

As for Star Wars, yeah it's probably fucked for good. Even if they cleaned house at Lucasfilm and put in the right people, the amount of damage done to the brand has been insurmountable, to the point where it would take years to build up trust with the fans again. And even in that regard they're probably never getting a lot of those fans back. They would have to build up a brand new audience. I hope we get a documentary or case study someday on how the biggest franchise ever got completely destroyed by incompetent retards and activists.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.

Again? How many Star Wars movie are they going to announce and quietly cancel afterwards? There have been almost a dozen of these failed SW projects by now.

I'm not even sure what candidate could replace her. It's not like there are tons of banger sci fi movies coming out or television series.

Would Denis Villeneuve be interested in this crappy universe?

I blame the fans as well as Kethleen Kennedy or Disney for no Rian Johnson's Starwars Trilogy.

It would have been much much better than current scenario and I always believed the guys directing chops.
