They won the 2024 GOTY and The 2024 Multiplayer Game of the year. That's what happened. You don't live in reality.
One game winning doesn't magically put them in a 'good place'. It's just a flash in the pan. What good is that trophy if the rest of their lineup is stuck in neutral?

So go ahead, wave that GOTY trophy around, but the truth is, it's just a bandaid on a much bigger problem

cod is the most greedy and mtx hungry franchise on the market, and apparently it is infested by cheaters as well.

I don't know how bad the cheating situation is in regular multiplayer but Warzone is free to play.

Nothing will stop cheaters but a paid game will help deter them.

Destiny 3 would have been a guaranteed hit with a much needed updates. Instead we still get D2 expansions and this Marathon crap. Bungie will be dead by end of year.

This pile of shit is a rip off. It will bomb hard. I hope people don't get fooled by the retarded influencers paid to praise the game.

I think people comparing it to Concord never played an extraction shooter or a battle royale and they think all GaaS shooters are the same.
Yeah see a lot of on the internet, people who haven't played a extraction shooter don't understand how it works.
This game is nothing like your COD, BF, Apex, Fortnite and most main stream multiplayer shoots.
The install base for extraction shooters currently is mostly on PC bar Hunt Showdown which is on console as well.
If the battle pass is not expiring and the mtx is not down right greedy, I can see this game being big on Twitch and PC. For console have to wait an see.
As someone who love's Escape from Tarkov and Hunt, I can't wait for this hopefully they keep working at it until the release in September.

Yesterday people said I shouldn't be worried about Marathon getting annihilated by GTAVI since there is no date for that game yet, turns out it didn't even need a GTAVI release to absolutely bomb, who would have thought? Lmao

Yeah, the biggest problem with Concord is that it had no idea what it wanted to be. It's like the developers threw a bunch of shit at the wall with all the different game modes and was waiting for the playerbase to steer the game in a certain direction. It was incredibly half baked. At launch, the best game mode was team death match. Everything else was pretty awful

And there is zero chance that Marathon isn't at least a decent success at launch. 10's of millions of gamers love Bungie's gunplay. That alone will entice a large player pool to give the game a chance

I don't think it will have a large twitch presence from what they've shown.

it looks too simple and too streamlined.
people watch Tarkov streams because they are tense and unpredictable.
in one run there'll be a sniper battle across multiple buildings, the next run the player might sneak through the mall trying to make as little sound as possible to not get heard by other players, and the next run after that maybe he'll come across another player and communicate through proximity chat and team up or lie and betray the other player etc.

Marathon looks way more like you just go in with a team, instantly rush through the map to your single (!) objective, and shoot at everything that moves.
and from what they've shown I can't see how any run will look any different than that exact pattern. go in, rush to objective, shoot people/bots, extract/die.

there also seems to be little to no learning curve, as each loot item is instantly identified and given a value.
when in Tarkov you slowly learn what is worth looting, what can be sold where, how you optimise bag space etc.

it clearly tries to be beginner friendly, which runs the risk of being too streamlined for hardcore players.

Wait WHAT? 3 maps at launch? WTF have they been doing all these years in that studio. Smoke dollar bills?

AAA development is a fucking joke. No,actually it transcended to being a parody of the joke it became years ago!

$70, pay for battle pass, 3 maps.

Best value in a shooter ever!

I remember the outrage COD WWII had at launch when I think it only had 8 MP maps and 3 War maps.

Yesterday's unfriendly consumer features are today's golden days of nostalgia. Oh how far this medium has fallen.... it's a travesty how devoid of any respect for their customers these companies have become.

I think I'm in the minority in that I actually really like the art style.

Except for the god awful character designs. Combined with a "premium" price, it's clear they've truly learned nothing from Concord.

Considering your ingredients seem wrong...

Full price

Isn't a full priced game

At least 3 maps at launch, possibly 4

Looks like a PS3 game

Watch it in 4K

Multiplayer only.

Like pretty much every live service game successful or not?

Fortnite launched with only a PvE mode, which cost 40 dollars. It launched a free Battle Royal months later. Marathon isn't 70 dollars. It's so funny how one writer can literally make something up, take his time correcting it, and people will for days keep repeating the lie. Even when Fortnite launched BR it only had 1 map.

It's as if people just have no sense of time or history.

I don't know if it is just ignorance or trolling.

Really don't get this manufactured outrage around this title lol. Tarkov is a premium title, so is Hunt Showdown and so are many other multiplayer/extraction games. I mean you kind of need to in order to combat the low-effort cheaters that would otherwise create infinite accounts with no drawbacks.

Three maps at launch is plenty as well.

Anyway I can see why this game's style might not be for everyone, especially with regards to the visuals but people are so quick to write something off based on so little. I'm the biggest Bungie hater around (well, I'm not actually that tall so the jury's out on that one) but even I'm willing to give this a shot at launch. or at least try out the inevitable open beta weekend or whatever.

I largely disagree with the consensus about the visual aesthetic. I think it looks good. It stands out. There's definitely some thought poured into it.

The problem is, that for something that tries so hard to differentiate itself visually, it doesn't seem to bring any new-thinking in its gameplay that compliment or match it. Something that tries so fiercely to "go against the stream" like this, needs something equally "daring" to back it up. Like, an inventive gameplay mechanic or unique gimmick. None of the gameplay footage I've seen thus far seems to indicate that.

And if it doesn't have any of that, then it could really use a storyline campaign to compensate for it.

Also, I can't fault OG Marathon fans for being bewildered by how they're using the original IP for this.

The look in gameplay is so disappointing. I loved the style when I saw the trailers but in game it looks cheap.
It's odd. I liked the early footage and haven't analyzed it or anything but it looks like shit in action. More like gaudy, eye-searing Lego than anything. The aggressive neon colors on white are obnoxious as well.
