Marathon will be a premium, paid - but not 'full price' - Extraction Shooter with 3 maps at launch

Without a doubt I want to know more and hope there is an open beta to able to try it but haven't like enough of what I have seen to reward them with a purchase unless I do it on a platform that makes refunds super easy

Give me a break you sprinkle 40's on your cereal in the morning. Then move onto COD skins just like me.

Such hate. Just play something else if you don't like it my friend.
I will.

I am just pissed because they call it Marathon, and it's a fucking PvPvE extraction shooter. The old fucks who played the original Marathon games back then most likely aren't the target audience for this and the zoomers who are, weren't even alive when the original games came out. So why use the IP? That's what pisses me off. I was so fucking excited when they first announced this. I was ready to forgive them for Destiny 1 and 2. And then I read about what this game is supposed to be. And Bungie can't even properly support their live-service games, tbh.

Destiny? No, not at all.

It was a garbage game when it launched, the only good thing about it was the shooting mechanics (which Bungie has never gotten wrong).

Halo? Past Reach they haven't influenced the industry at all, and Reach released in 2010.

Destiny 2 also has not been influencial on the gaming industry on the whole in any way shape or form.

You don't think failures like Anthem were created in an attempt to take a peice of Destiny's pie?

No influence on the Division?

They pretty much invented the looter shooter.

Have you ever heard of Borderlands my guy?

Destiny created the looter shooter lmao now I've heard it all

That FPS video is very disheartening. Boring PVE gameplay is one thing but hearing that a vast majority of the sessions are PVE is even worse. Maybe it varies depending on maps.

And a lot of what the director described as unique things in Marathon are staples in other games already, like Hunt.

Good point. Still say Destiny was more influential than that title.
Sorry, but that is just absolutely untrue.

Destiny did nothing special that other games couldnt easily recreate, and they have such as The Division.

The only actual great thing that Bungie still has is their gunplay. The feeling of shooting is great in every one of their games.

Besides that, Destiny 1 had an insanely garbage ass story, a few shit locations and 1 fucking 'raid'. What an insane letdown that game was.

And then you have Destiny 2, with them shelling story missions and campaigns I never got interested in playing any of it.

And their delusional approach to customization, microtransactions and all that stuff, while shelving campaigns you paid for is absolutely retarded.

You know what makes WoW so great? You can go back and play literally every raid from the old games.

Yet the game was insanely popular.

Look I'm not saying the game didn't have its faults, it absolutely did but it was at the top of the most played charts on and off for years for a reason.

That doesnt make it influential in any way shape or form.

One of industry leading GAAS for years has not had any influence whatsoever? Is that what you are implying?

I can't think of anything Destiny has done to the industry, and I played the shit out of that game on release. Please elaborate what have Destiny done that changed the industry?

This ain't my game Sony-bros.

I'm a PS5 Pro, Nvidia, and Nintendo enjoyer, so not about the money on this one.

It's the fact it is an online shooter with no SP campaign. I'm beyond that now. To vote for this with my wallet?

man... why does it have to be an extraction gaas shooter...
I love the style and world they built. The reveal trailer is soooo amazing.... gameplay looks great too. but mp extraction.... cmon... why not single player

Marathon plot intrigues me even since knowing its connection to the Halo lore so that got me interest in the Marathon franchise but I couldn't bring myself to play the original given its ancient gameplay and level design.

I was hoping that Bungie will do the old IP justice by remaking the old game for the modern era.

But no, it has to be another extraction shooter.

If it influences others to try and replicate your success then I'd say its influential.
Games like Destiny, The Division are just a natural evolution of what Borderlands and Borderlands 2 did years and years before them.

Destiny didnt invent a 'live service' game, neither did they ingent looter shooters.

Same with Marathon. Nothing original from them.

Isn't that the case for most games these days? We just get iterations of whats come before?

I think we are talking about different definitions of influential.

Fortnite for example has no original ideas of its own, but I'd say its been very influential on the industry.

True but I still would not call Destiny influential in any way shape or form

Just a reminder that Destiny was the last Hoorah for the "real" Bungie studio that had been together for 30 years making games. They're living off the studio name, and the Sony took over... so expect the worst.

The pacing is way off. Extraction shooters are working when the pacing is slow and you can feel the tension. This just looks like the final circle of apex legends. Also the loot and the loot interface looks boring af. If you want an engaging and long lasting extraction game, you have to make the loot exciting. Looks like bungie missed many points here to make a good extraction game. Also this art style and the characters are made to sell you crazy weird looking skins that one is obvious. This will launch with barebones content and nobody will be there to wait for more in the future

Yet not a single PvE shooter has implemented raids, dungeons, and PvP similar to Destiny. The fact is, nothing like Destiny exists on the market today. If it does, please do share. If you were to say Division 2, I'm sorry but I just can't take that seriously at all. 2 mediocre "raids" in 6 years that don't even compare to the quality of raids that Destiny offers is a bad argument.

Say what you will about Destiny (and there's a good amount to say, like the removal of content), but let's stop pretending that other games, especially live service games, have done it better or can "easily recreate" what Destiny has achieved in the last 10 years. Not a single shooter has done it. I wish it would to add more competition.

Probably because the lame half mmo-lite is a shit design

I havent played division 2 for more than 5mins so i couldnt tell you

Im not saying other games have done it better, but I dont think they are interested in occupying the same kind of space that Destiny does.

Youd have to come up with something really really good to get people in the door, and like games like Anthem and The Division have proven is that is almost an insurmountable task for most developers these days.

But ofcourse other games can create 'raids' and 'strikes'.

But it makes the games a different kind of timesink as well.

Gameplay looks like a slower Apex on way smaller maps. Not good at all

Only thing Im seeing thats Extraction is looting items

Apparently character skins wont be a thing. Bungie said knowing what character you are shooting at is very important in the game so skins changing up a character drastically is out.

The Final Shape, which released last year, is the highest reviewed expansion of the entire Destiny franchise. You are out of your damn mind if you dismiss the amount of talent still working at Bungie. Just hatin for no reason

It's like saying Rockstar is screwed because Dan Houser left the company
