The Playstation platforms get a disproportionately high amount of software releases. From the Media Create Top 1000 for 2015
PSV - 284
3DS - 266
PS3 - 194
PS4 - 148
01. Nintendo - 8.796.933 <23,55%>
10. Pokemon Co. - 869.787 <2,33%>
01. 3DS - 18.438.698 <49,37%
02. PSV - 5.205.609 <13,94%
03. PS4 - 5.114.598 <13,69%
04. PS3 - 4.185.655 <11,21%
If you take away Nintendo's(and Pokémon) share(and keep Sony's if you really want) then the 3DS still sold 8,771,978 pieces of software. Even if we divide that amount by 266 it's 32,997 average sales for 3DS software.
If we do the same for the current PS platforms then it's:
PSV: 18,329
PS4: 34,558
EDIT: I just realised that I took away Nintendo's total software sales from the 3DS sales. Splatoon alone counts for a million non-3DS sales there. Oh well the point is still obvious.
I'm not really seeing your point here.
But even using your numbers and stuff it only proves that there isn't a gigantic big gap between 3DS and PS4 sales, which made the discussion in the other thread that the PS4 as software platform is dead a little silly looking.

The point is that the 3DS actually moves a lot more software when you were implying the opposite(not the first time you've done so either).
If it was worked out properly the gap would be big. Even if we just properly took out the Splatoon and Mario Maker sales the 3DS total would be 10,667,807. I also counted 24 Nintendo/TPC 3DS releases in the top 150(couldn't be bothered further) which means at most there was 241 Third party 3DS games.
Just with that small adjustment the average becomes 44,306.
Feel free to prove me wrong.
Who is saying companies should get rid of the PS4 platform? The last discussion about PS4 versus handheld platforms was about companies that had great success on PSP, then lower sales on Vita, had even worse multiplatform sales on simultaneous home console releases mostly on PS3. And those suddenly go PS4 exclusive as if no portable console audience exists anymore in Japan of all places. This is a point several people like to forget when talking about the healthiness of a plfatform. The last thread had a bunch of people talking about that niche and medium companies should get rid of the PS4 platform and move to handhelds, a claim that doesn't really get that much supported by software sales - especially if we are also excluding first party sales from both numbers and only comparing third party sales.

Persona and Dragon Quest aren't really good examples for what your are referring to. Dragon Quest is on the 3DS for the very reason people mentioned and will be the best selling version. You're going to have to post some receipts on people saying that Persona 5 would flop on the PS4 because I have never seen that.Is this joke? How many times have we seen people act like the PS4 SKUs are a flop and a game should go to 3DS? Persona 5, Dragon Quest, I'm sure you will see it when MH PS4 gets announced.
I remember Sammy (yeah I know) saying FFXV should of been a 3DS title lol
Sometimes the loss of the portable audience in Japan can easily be replaced by overseas sales.

Also, that MH comment is pretty ironic considering your post.
Plenty of people predicted Persona 5 would be a 3DS game pre-reveal(and were quite obviously wrong) but I don't think anyone said it would flop on PS4, especially considering it was a PS3 game at first.

The discussion started as "PS4 sw sales aren't that lower than 3ds ones in japan" and that is a silly statement

Slightly Off-Topic, but not that much, since this would actually have relevance in terms of support from smaller Japanese developers.

It seems Nintendo announced at the Game Creators Conference '17 that Switch dev kits will go for around 50,000 Yen. Correct me if I'm wrong in my interpretation of this aspect of the article.

Well Dragon Quest did go to the 3DS for the reasons people gave in those threads with SE surprising everyone by going mulitplat and Persona 5 wasn't even announced for the PS4 until about a year after it was revealed and came with a delay. People expect those particular franchises to miss the PS4 isn't exactly all that crazy, especially when you look at games like Persona 4.They were both franchises that people thought would miss the PS4. Just go scour the threads before Persona 5 and DQH were announced.

I was always sure Persona 5 was going to be PS3/PS4. I did not see DQ 11 coming to PS4, but going multi platform would be the best way to get the numbers to go up. And since it is Unreal 4 they can get it on both Switch and PS4, this probably sweetened the deal enough to make the leap to multi platform.
The 50,000 Yen dev kit is a great deal. Nintendo is trying their hardest to get the switch in everyones hands.
So is 50,000 Yen accurate?
If it is it probably deserves its own thread.

Go ahead and quote the people who "want to get rid of the PS4 platform" as PdotMichael wrote, I very much like to laugh at those posts if I knew where to find them.Is this joke?
Yeah, thats true. I guess maybe thats because they are estimating differently out from the data that they have, but i'm curious why this would be done for shipped numbers. Not sure how they would estimate something like that.I don't know where the issue lies but there has been major discrepancies between trackers lately. Like there's a nearly a 100k difference between Famitsu and MC for Momotaro and a few other games also have pretty insane differences.

If you use quotation mark then it should be a real quote.
And the software ratio is in favour of the PS4 indeed. PS4 owns 30% of the software market in FY2016 while the 3DS is at 49%, although having a several times higher install base.
60,174 FW, 109,583 LTD (Media Create, PS3/Replicant version).Need those first week and LTD sales for the first NieR.
Oh, nice. Thanks.60,174 FW, 109,583 LTD (Media Create, PS3/Replicant version).
Actually it seems it sold a bit more after it left the charts and ended at 138,793 LTD.Oh, nice. Thanks.
This seems to be a pretty good opening for Automata than. Just have to see what the legs are looking like to see how much farther it can go.

Regardless yeah this would be a good opening for Automata.
Wasn't saying it did, was giving the number that I can see for the first release's LTD. But good to know the budget release has done decently...NiieR has seen continued sales of budget release last years, its popularity didn't rise in a day.
I just noticed Fire Emblem got bumped back onto the list (The FE titles are improving on the Japanese' eshop too).
Looks like FEHeroes is doing a decent job at marketing the series to new players. I wonder how well Echoes will do in April.
