Where do you guys go for hair style inspiration?

I have an appointment tomorrow with a really good barber but I don't have any idea what I want done.

Any good texturizer you guys recommend?

I'm in the market for some and I don't trust my own judgement since I do not have much experience on what products are good.

hmm, i think my 12-year affair with american crew grooming cream might be coming to an end. got a freebie of b&b sumowax and it's juuust a bit stiffer which is what I need.

Oddly enough I've been the guy talking poor of amcrew but after looking for a really light hold styling option and trying b&b semisumo I found amcrew forming cream to be the best option for me.

It's really nice, gives you just a touch of hold without being sticky or hard to remove and gives your hair just a slightly enhanced look and shine.

the part of my hair that was dyed has finally grown long enough for me to mess with the hair straightener again. since i'm already planning to chop the colored part off i may as well try something fun. give myself some wavy/curly look.

About 75% of the time I have bad hair days. It all comes down to the amount of hair product I use. If I use too much it weighs my hair down and makes it look greasy. If I use too little it makes it fluffy with no desired shape.

I like that product, but its incredibly sticky. It's not really a product you put into your hair then tussle around until you get the style just so.

I just tried some yesterday since my hair was being too poofy now that it's longer. Immediately regretted it, so damn sticky.

I need to go and cut my hair, I have not done it since July or August and the "wings" are getting annoying. I have already trimmed them once...

Any tips?

The alternative is I do it myself (buzz) with a hair cutter.

Is this the correct thread?

I am a redhead with thick hair that grows pretty fast.

this is me last winter, maybe gives you an idea of what hair I have and what might be suitable. I have more hair now..

Works fine for me. In any case, reuploaded for science and for sexy posterity.

Look at this guys hair.

tumblr_n9jtesT48J1rot71co1_500.jpg

I ditched the long emo hair and went for an undercut. No fade, just a 2 going all the way up the sides and back.

Just need hair product and ways to style it now.
I've been looking for different haircuts and this is the one I like the most so far.
My hair ISlong enough to attempt a similar haircut like this.
First time I do something as drastic as this so yeah, hopefuly my stylist doesn't fuck it up lol

I'm going to try the American Crew grooming cream after seeing you guys talk about it. I have pomade and clay on deck. Might look into a texturizer or will the cream cut it?

Been finding that I can't get height on my hair in the morning. It's flat if I don't use a hairdryer, but if I do, it's way too fluffy.

Whereas if I put some product in it then let it dry naturally, i get a lot more height when I play with it.

Zup men! I'm having a hard time telling if my hairline is receeding or not.

Thinking about growing my hair out again, but I'm also afraid I'll look stupid as fuck. I'll let you decide. I know I've done this before, but I need fresh opinions. Am I going bald? Should grow my hair out?

Does it look like my hairline is receding?

I wish I had grown my hair out even more. I got a haircut shortly after this. I want get Kurt Vile length hair!

how do people deal with tangled hair? I'm growing mine out again and i forgot how curly it gets. Fucking mad tangling after i wake up in the morning, especially at the back.

Wierdly, i thought mine maybe was, then i saw a picture of myself when i was 16 and my hairline is exactly the same. Long hair seems to do that to you lol.

be prepared for it to be a pain in the ass to manage. My hair is wavy when it's your length, but goes full on cuntcurls when it's long. sitting at about 14 inches long after a year. There was a point in May when i had to wear a hairband or beanie to keep it out of my face when running or playing football. Now it's long enough to be tied back and tucked behind my ears.

Go for it though.

Do it. Your hairline is fine, and if it is receding, grow it while you still can. I'm in the process of growing mine out; it's been a year now, so I still have a long way to go.

Hair has more elasticity when it's wet, so when you're in the shower use a shit ton of conditioner and gently comb out the knots with either your fingers (God's comb) or a large toothed comb (the ones with the really large teeth, not the larger end of a regular comb). Do not do it dry because your hair will break, and do not use a small toothed comb or brush, as those will break the hair as well. Wet, lots of conditioner, and your fingers work best. I usually bend over and hang my head as upside down as possible and gently comb from my neck down to the top of my head, and from my forehead to my crown.

I recently moved to San Francisco and need to get a haircut this weekend. Any recommendations for good barbers/stylists in the city?

Look for a tangle teeser brush. If you dont want your hair tangled in the morning then you need to tie it up with somethi g lets say a bandana perhaps. And no wet hair on the bed

My hair gets wavy and it's kind of a pain. I had it really long and messy for a while and finally got it cut. It ended up being a lot shorter than I wanted it to on the top, but oh well. I think I'm going to try going nopoo since it's so short.

I also finally picked up some American Crew Fiber and I'm going to try actually styling it, which I've never done before.

This is how far I got last time, haha. About a years growth. Do you think it will stay down on it's own if it grows longer? Moist weather is a bitch and makes my hair look like that pretty much.

Hard to tell since I have a headband on.

What do other people here with super curly hair do with the back? Easy to style the front with various product but the back is a lot harder to manage. Just got out shaved off last time, but I don't really want to have such a contrast all the time

It looks like you might have a slight receding hairline, but it also might be the angles. Either way, looks awesome and you should def grow it out again. Mine is nowhere near that long, unfortunately. Plus, it's really curly, so it looks a hell of a lot shorter than it actually is, 5½, but looks two or three inches.

I just leave it alone and deal with it. The problem with shaving it is that it will never have a chance to catch up and you'll always have these hairs back there that are shorter than everything else on your head and you can do nothing with. But then again, I plan on crowing my to around shoulder length.

Might as well just post a picture.

Here's my current haircut. I've somehow wrangled my hair to stay in place without any product for the moment... that doesn't really happen as it gets pretty wavy in the front.

I asked for pretty short sides and to keep a good amount on the top (my hair was pretty long when I went in to get it cut). I almost kinda wanted a bit more on top, but I'm happy with the sides, I think. Are they too short for how much is on top, as in they make it look like a doofy haircut? Should I stop skirting around it and just ask for an undercut the next time, or does this work better for me? I'm wondering maybe if I grow it out I could get it cut to do a Matt Smith/11th Doctor kind of thing, maybe.

Anyway, opinions?

I feel like there are certain people who can rock long hair (a decent amount actually), but I am certainly not one of them.

Man bun often looks pretty poor in execution lately. People try it when their hair is too short or something.

My problem is that the back of my head just becomes a mop. Too many curls! Just need to get a second mirror so I can deal with it.

Started rocking the man bun lately. Having trouble controlling all of the fizz.

People seem to reccomend this Moroccan Oil hydrating cream. Any one here have some experience with this or reccomend something else as a syrum or oil.

American Crew Fiber isn't actually doing a very good job of holding my hair up, and as you can see it's pretty short.

Is it worth trying that Hanz De Fuko Claymation stuff I've heard about?

Nah, you look fine! It might be receding slightly, but it's hard to say for sure; it might just be your natural hairline.

I'm having a similar issue right now that I'd appreciate some feedback on. I noticed my hairline receding about a year ago (although it probably started a few years back), but I kept my regular haircut. Here's what I looked like:

As you can see, you can kinda tell that something's going on up top, so I recently trimmed my hair down to 4mm, and I think it looks pretty decent.

Still, I can't help but miss my hair a bit, and some people have been asking me why I buzzed my head, that it looked great before (gee, thanks). I'm pretty content trimming my hair down like this, but since my hair will eventually be gone for good, I'm having second thoughts about the trimming. Maybe I should try to rock what I have left while I can? What do you think, GAF – keep trimming the hair or grow it out a bit again?

You might be in the awkward stage. There's always an awkward stage when growing your hair out that you're just going to have to sit through and deal with, and by shaving the back you may be in a perpetual awkward stage. Mine is more or less the same way, or rather, was, but now that I'm hitting six inches without even a single hair being cut it's not bad at all. I really can give you specific styles, as I generally throw a skully on shortly after getting out of the shower, or I just let it air dry as is and dries into a neat curly fro.

None of your pics are showing up for me. Getting a Dropbox 403.

So something came over me today and I opted to get an undercut. My stylist told me that, since I have thick wavy hair, that I should apply styling spray and styling cream, followed by a blow dry, followed by pomade in order to get a straightened look to my hair. Can you guys recommend any products for me to use? I'm currently using American Crew pomade but I'm not familiar with good brands of styling spray and styling cream.

Horse Detective

Why the long case?
So I haven't tried many foreign brands, but I recently picked up a small amount of Gatsby spiky edge at an Asian market. Despite the name, it is a fantastic product for pomps and undercuts, or anything with top length. I am loving it so far.

really? i swear that stuff is like one of the weird mega glue brands.

Ive not done a bloody thing to my hair in 8 weeks or my beard really outside of trimming the neckline and moustache. I must look borderline feral at this point.

Argh, hair is firmly entrenched in the awkward stage at the moment. Figure I got about five more months before it'll actually look decent again. I am using the forming cream again though, I just put it in after towel drying and smooth it back with my fingers. I want to slick it back without a part, but after a few hours it always parts down the middle for some reason.

Have you ever tried propecia or rogaine? I have some slight temple recession but my hair is thick so with my hairstyle you can't see it at all.

Im debating on ordering some generic finasteride online because 90% of the men in my family are bald, but at the same time my hairline is better than theirs were at my age.

All the positive propecia stories all include the fact that the person using it wished they started younger and maybe they could've regrown some hair and kept most of it. Already have Regenepure DR shampoo that has that ketoconazole in it and plus I like the other ingredients as well. Any propecia users care to chime in? I feel like if I would be a good responder, then I could keep my nice hair for awhile.

Never tried it, but don't think I will seeing as money is tight and I'm generally pretty okay with losing my hair, but if you're thinking about it you might as well start early.

Yeah thats what Im thinking. Only problem is Im at the point where its hard to tell if the receding is just from a normal receding hairline (aka mature hairline), or early stages of MPB. I'm slightly under a NW2 (probably NW1.5) so I could possibly save and keep a full head of hair for a long time if it all works out, maybe even make it more thick than it already is.

I've shaved my head fully before so its not like I'm afraid of going down that route, but I have really nice hair so my logic is to try and keep it for as long as possible, or at least give it a good shot. Propecia is pretty cheap though, I saw an online pharmacy selling the 5mg x 30 tabs for $57, split into 4 thats almost half a years worth of daily doses. But if you don't really care either way more power to ya, thats less money to spend and less worry down the road tbh.
