You can tell that this thread has gotten super slow since TPP released,
I've barely posted since release and I have the 11th highest post count.

Anyway, hope you are all well.

It can really consume you, huh? It's unbelievable how much there is to do in MGSV.
Such a shame that it starts to feel super repetitive after about 20 hours

Out of interest (and this isn't an ambush), did you/anyone else feel the same when playing through MGS2: Substance, VR et al? Because I kind of see TTP's content as equivalent.

I did actually. To this day I have never completed the VR mode in the HD release for the trophies.
I did it back on ps2 though.

I still rate MGS2 much higher though because it has an amazing story
and David Hayter

I will 100% TPP one day but I will most likely never play it again after.

MGS2 I will one day get the platinum trophy, and I will still replay the game at least once a year.

220 hours into TPP and still going.

Wow...

I had to stop after about 60 hours.

I was so into the game for the first 15-20 hours.
Then I realised that the story wasn't going to get any better.

I'm never going to say that MGSV is objectively a bad game. Hell, it's a great game!
It's just not what I wanted from a new Metal Gear game.

I feel like I would have called it my GOTY if it was a new IP.

I think being a part of the MGS series actually did the game a disservice.

TPP makes me feel so many things that I feel like I keep contradicting myself.
It's definitely my most memorable game of 2015, although not entirely for good reasons.

Ignore this post. I'm just trying to figure out how I feel about TPP

The bolded part is a pretty good way of putting it tbh.

Now that the dust has settled and we've had a good couple of months to let everything sink in I don't really mind some of the things that I found frustrating before. Yes story wise and the direction it took wasn't what any of us expected. But I think I just acknowledge and accept it for what it is. Either way we've got a game which feels unbelievably good mechanically and is very fun to play. It's not everything you'd want from MGS but I, like you, also find it to be my most memorable game of the year. In fact it might even be my GOTY lol, I started playing Witcher 3 but it was so soon after MGS the game suffered, as it's terrible mechanically speaking when compared to MGS, but I'll revisit it one day for sure. That said I started playing Bloodboorne a couple days and that's amazing so far, has a shot at becoming my GOTY if initial impressions are anything to go by.

Well that's the problem Kojima has been facing for a while. He wants to make new games of course but keeps coming back to Metal gear (for whatever those reasons may be) so in order to make things interesting for himself I imagine he tries to evolve the series with each game. Every game in the series is quite different though with V he just went all out with its evolution. I love it but I can understand some people not liking it.

Well, he's got no excuse now for making new stuff.

Yup. His next game will showcase a level of freedom in creativity that he hasn't had in a very long time.

Yeah, MGS IP was a huge limit because it didn't let him fully develop things that could be fit with a new IP. Imagine a new game entirely based on the Language theme.

I've been playing this for the past two days, my natural inclination seems to be the non lethal, no alarm approach for the main missions, must be all those Splinter Cell games. What are the consequences, besides the score tally, to dropping those objectives? I'm looking to eliminate some of the hand wringing that really slows down the game and using only the tranq pistol about 95% of the time is constraining what seems to be a really good arsenal of weapons.

I finished MGSV but I still feel a need to go back and play more every so often. Jeez this game just plays so well that short bursts of it are great even after 130+ hours. >_>

You see, I think TPP, MGS2: Substance and PW were designed with that in mind.

Stay non-lethal. Use other non-lethal weapons/ equipment instead of just the tranq gun. Don't go Rambo.

So, there are story consequences to shooting up a mission every once in a while? I mean, I just got the rocket launcher and there are tanks out there.

The game has made it so if you get lots of headshots, soldiers start to wear helmets, and if you play a lot at night they start to wear NVG etc etc. So basically the games 'adapts' dependent on your play style. So I guess a consequence of going all guns blazing would be that to a lot of soldiers would now be wearing full body armour which is a pain lol. Although that said, if you just want to shoot up every once in a while I doubt it'd do much harm. Oh and another thing is *semi-spoiler*
the more you kill the bigger your horn gets, so that sorta' changes the story in that you'll have a big ass horn on your head during cutscenes if you've been killing a lot lol.

Ah, that's interesting, a
quasi morality system
built in. I'll keep an eye on it. My kill count right now is at 30, 25 of those being assault rifle kills due to a botched soldier extraction thing(this is the worst side op I've seen by the way, I simply can not locate the guy on many occasions). This won't be an issue now that I have auto fire weapons that are non lethal.

Typically 1-2 interrogations will reveal a top ranked soldier or prisoner

Digital Extended Soundtrack for MGSV will contain 114 songs

A new soundtrack has been announced for Metal Gear Solid V. Called the ‘Extended Soundtrack’, this digital only release will contain 114 songs from the game (from cutscenes and gameplay).

Metal-Gear-Solid-V-Extended-Soundtrack.jpg

You can buy the album as a whole (receiving a digital booklet describing the music) or you can purchase each of the songs separately.

The album releases on December 23rd on iTunes, for a price of ¥2700 (around $22 USD), or ¥250 per song.

So happy the rumours were true. It will be really interesting to see what Kojima brings out next, a man with as many interests as him it could really be anything lol.

Just update it and then check the update history.
I'd rather not update it. With Konami being a shitty company, who knows what they might remove in this patch? Not saying it will happen, but I'm avoiding all possibilities until I know what this patch does.

Fair I guess.
I'm updating it now.
I'll let you know what it does in about 10 minutes

Hmm, looks good. I will wait just a little longer to make sure. After all, IIRC,
Quiet returning
was not mentioned in patch 1.06 notes. But of course, that's a good thing.
At least host migration was finally added.
I might actually play MGO now
