Monster Hunter Wilds open beta impressions

beta doesn't do light/heavy bowgun justice, these 2 weapon require alot of mod and customzie to function, but beta has none of it, play gun feel horrible

I'm curious if they gonna ups date the Beta and add crazy OP flagship monster for us to fight.

GS main. To do normal gs stuff. It’s pretty much the same. Just don’t feel like to hitting hard like you use too. Idk if it the sound or not. Now doing the focus move and that focus counter, yeah it feel like you do for sure.

I can see myself incorporating the focus move well in my play. I just don’t know bout that counter. Feel like I’m having to go out my way to try it. Maybe once I get the hang of it and really understand what the monster is doing. I fall in love with it

I want more! This demo\beta is so short, argh!
Absolutely loved it though.
Will do some free roaming for the rest of the demo period.

All the characters are drop dead gorgeous. God bless Japanese devs for allowing us to enjoy actually beautiful characters.
The redhead from preset 23 is breathtaking.

Overall the graphics is great (in Resolution mode) and it runs decently on PS5 with 120FPS mode enabled. It's not as smooth as 60fps mode would be, but it's good enough for me.

Performance mode is weird. It has a very heavy blur on everything and an extremely heavy motion blur on monsters when up close. Somehow it reminds me of Xenoblade Chronicles games on Switch, similar levels of blur on everything. I will stick with the resolution mode.

If PSSR can make this blur go away, I might consider getting PS5Pro just for this game.

So, how does this feel compared to MH World ?
How's the weapon hit feedback/animations/joy pad rumble/general performance ?

Has the MH formula changed/evolved even a little bit or is it more of a MH World re-skin ?

Thanks

1 gun each type, and normal, spread, pierce avaible to use, all infinity ammo, both gun can use thunder ammo, light can use freeze, heavy can use wyvern and slice, light has paralyze while heavy has sleep
Looked up some Beta gameplay and it looks like Normal 2 shots are also infinite. I wonder if they only have craftable or limited ammo for the special ammo types like Sticky, Elemental or Slicing and the basic shot types are all infinite.

On one hand this is good to save on crafting, on the other hand it makes the game more streamlined and less reliant on ammo management.

Hmm seeing the same thing on LBG from Gamescom footage.

Hoping it's just a Demo thing. Frustrating!

fidelity mode vs frame rate mode

the frame rate mode appears to be 1080p while the fidelity mode is around 1440p

It would be really interesting to see what PS5 Pro can do with PSSR here
This on tv ?

I guess it's the same issue like ff7
But then I played on a 32 inch Monitor , maybe the issue won't be so glaring .

How's the weapon hit feedback? imo weaker than world hit feedback, i dont know if it is the sound design or what, but it feels weaker imo.
joy pad rumble ? nothing crazy at moment.
general performance ? better than World PS4 OG release imo.
animations? way better than world.

it has, now the game is open world and even more interactive than before, but at the end of the day its more MH.

I prefer the open zones of World, Weapon hit feedback were better and monster looked bigger and more "menacing".

I've tried my best to go blind with it, but my only concern is that it's a very brown game. Very brown indeed.
Too much brown.
And this is coming from a C64 owner, who ate brown for breakfast.

I think that's just how the first biome looks. The second one is supposed to be in the jungles, should be plenty of green there.

Has there been any word on Pro support and what that will entail? Can't see myself playing this how it looks and performs on the OG PS5

Its amazing, character creator is excellent, Sekhret puts Palamute to shame, weapon switching is potentially a game changer, environment looks incredible and the ecology aspect/herds and the way everything changes is awesome, new combos and combat mechanics are really well implemented. Yep its amazing so far, thank FUUUUUUCK its more World than Rise and putting the franchise back on the right path.

the weapon switching is suprisely faster than i image, just press right d-pad and your character just hop on chocobo, switch out 2nd weapon, no menu or confirm need to accept

I’m in the same boat.
I should be way more hyped for a new MH, but something just makes me feel a bit tepid.
Maybe it’s years of multi hundred hour MH saves , or this game looking very similar to World. Not sure but ya, I feel you.
The only thing that let me down a bit other than the graphic being just ok is that some weapons got huge glow ups like the bow or gunlance but other weapons were barely touched like the lance or hammer or gs, sure focus mode on gs to not wiff anymore is big, but every weapon can do that...

Also the worrying that the game is gonna be way too easy like dogma 2.

As much I’m super hyped for this game, I’m not getting PS + just to play it early.

But I’m curious If later on they will add super difficult flagship monster to hunt in demo.
This. Haven't subscribed in over a year and although I was considering I won't. AFAIK it's not even a normal demo, like I could play in 6 week's time or when I have more free time to really play it. It's probably a time limited beta. I don't sub for that.

Yeah looks like ass on PS5 in fps mode pretty sharp in fidelity mode but the perf is shite.
Needs PC or Pro.
to be real, it needs a better engine, RE is not made for open world, Decima is one of the best engines for open world games, look at Horizon FW, it looks way better and runs flawless in perf mode.

PC and Pro console are just brute forcing perf in games made with trash engines, there is no reason for this game to run like it does, its Dragons Dogma 2 all over again, Capcom needs to stop using RE for open world games.

I fucking knew it...all the videos showed less hit-stop\worse impacts than world but i asked to rurikhan during a stream and he told me that it was way better than world, this fucking dude can't say anything negative about capcom titles to save his life.

Is it at least better than mh rise paper feeling?

played a couple minutes, base PS5 version is terrible for someone sensitive to low framerate in quality mode.
and performance mode looks like ass.
glad i bought this for PC.
this is one of those games you want to play on either a PS5 Pro or PC.

imo it is between MHW/Rise, like i said its missing something sound wise or effect wise, i cant put my finger exactly where, but it feels "softier".

Needs more blood like MH4U. MH4G/4U to this day I feel has better overall sound design and effects. Lacks impact as is. And if nothing bleeds then we don't get that cool monster lore with insects having green blood as well as regular monsters having red blood. On top of that they served a purpose in smaller gore spurts meant you did lower damage compared to bigger spurts of blood.

Not to mention hit sparks of different colors(hitzones) telling you that you are hitting weakness or did critical damage.

GymWolf GymWolf I watch Ruri sometimes but he is a MH White Knight. A MH veteran honestly should be more critical but only saying good things gets you access to future content/events. Wilds to me looks like it will be decent as a Rise/World hybrid but the oversimplication and introduction of weaponswap is going to make the game much easier. But hey LBG/HBG builds here we come.

Depending on content available I might buy at launch(will check out the Beta on Steam for sure) otherwise it'll be a 2 year wait because Capcom probably has an expansion already planned.

The Electric Wyvern is also amusing to me because it sounds like AT-ATs from Star Wars and I can't unhear it.

I like the character creator. Can finally have attractive characters and long hair again.

I feel like it's an engine problem. DMC5, DD2, RE Remakes, MH Rise and now Wilds all have some severe downgrades in terms of hit response compared to the MT Framework installments. Like every monster felt like some just random MMO mob in Rise.

Played for a bit this morning while waking up and had a bit of fun. It's back to feeling like Worlds (which I liked and was my first MH game) instead of Rise which I didn't like. Don't know that I'll buy at full price but might buy in around the $40-50 range.

for those playing - how mandatory is the new "wound" system? Is it pretty much a chore that you have to do before you can really start fighting a monster like crutch claw 'softening' was, or can you ignore it entirely? Does it create new "weak spots" or just further enhance damage of existing weakspots?

it's just feel random for me, just complete ignore it and go unga bunga on monster with greatsword, and just hit focus button few time during fight, if i see glowing red spot i do focus strike for ton of damage, that's all, you don't have an ugre to re-soft your target like in MHWo

BTW, check your equipment box.
Even though there is no crafting in this demo, there are 4 different equipment sets in the box, with 2 variations each.

I love how detailed those armors are!

EDIT: Palico equipment too! There is a friggin mech armor for your cat!

I've tried to stay away for spoiler purposes tbh.
The snippets of trailers I allowed myself to glimpse have been brown..
360/Ps3 era brown.
So brown...
But seriously, yeah, must of missed the greenery, so that's a relief 😅
