It is such an incredible game.

Let me start by saying that Motorstorm is, to me, defined by its intensity. And this game is INTENSE. Some of the levels are mind boggling hyper active. You're racing at insane speeds, charging up boost, and then a helicopter flies above you firing rockets at some people around you, a huge building starts collapsing and rain is pouring into your face. Your adrenaline level goes bat shit, and just when you're fully hyped, the ground below you starts collapsing, you try to turn right, hit some ramp you haven't seen and then do a barrel roll safely landing just in front of a monster truck that's chasing you.

It is so insane that anything you've experienced in Pacific Rift pales in comparison. It is really out of this world experience and I am in shock at these negative reviews. I usualy tend to agree with the metacritic average, plus minus 5 points. But 78 for THIS game is heresy. The production values are THROUGH the roof. Everything is so stylish, so polished and so well executed that you really wonder how many years have they been doing this project. It's on another level compared to Pacific Rift.

Intensity aside, graphics, sound, vehicle behavior have all been finely tuned, with graphics engine getting the biggest overhaul. All the sparks, the destruction, the scene complexity in general, are hugely better than Pacific Rift.

The driving itself, is in my opinion, better as well. This is the first Motorstorm I've played where I managed to completely control the vehicle even in most insane situations. It's really well done.

And then there are things like perks, multiplayer and customization which I haven't even tried. Oh, and there's a progressive trophy system which highlights a trophy each time you make progress towards it in real time, which I thought was very cool.

You have said this maybe 30 times in this thread, are you working for Sony?

He asked me why I thought this, I thoroughly explained it. Why didn't you quote the rest of my post? The sentence you quoted was written because my opinion here is in conflict with the current reviewers (although I'm really confident that meta will increase). This is a pure 9/10 game.

Selective quoting like this is utterly retarded; why don't you go and check the Killzone 3 thread and read Lagspike's impressions of that Sony first-party game? Don't be butthurt that some might like this game more than you apparently do. It's really one of the weakest arguments you can pull up.

I didn't want to flood the page repeating what you just wrote 2 posts ago.
I saw you write maybe 10 times this game is awesome in this thread and actually it does look like real and sincere opinions, it just seems weird you are posting a 100 times how good this game is :)

So, anyone who thinks a game is awesome and repeats it a few times is working for a publisher?

Don't be stupid, I asked him why he thought it was better than PR, he gave me a good answer.

No.

And we are shitting up the thread now with this BS so let's cut it.
We can race each other once i get the game instead.

This better not be delayed to May bloody 5th! I've been looking forward to it for so long and I'm moving to South America the next day. What bad luck that would be!

Lagspike is so right though. This game really is hyperactive. It must be sensory overload to play it in 3D. I want to play it in 3D!!! :(

Also, seriously, I can make this game look really ugly. That was true for MS1 and MS2 as well. But as we all know (hm, at least those who played and liked Motorstorm before) the series is defined from the hood perspective. And boy does it look good at times. Then everything goes through the roof, stuff is collapsing and you see the shadows on the ground moving towards you, insane lighting quality, 5 cars around you, rain in your face, all at super stable 30FPS...it's just awesome. Even someone who hates Motorstorm, Sony and is blind should this game give at least an 8 for graphics. Sorry Gamecreactor and Co., you lost all your credibility imo.

Also the racing experience is quite deep. Besides the Online-mode you unlock hardcore festival races and a time trial mode where you really have to find the optimal route and be a good driver to win. The racing physics are as good if not better as in old Motorstorms. However it feels different because you are on tarmac quite a lot of time which you didn't have in MS2 and MS1 before.

So is it very different? Yes it is. Is it still Motorstorm? Hell yeah. Does it deliver on what it promises? Definitly. 120%. This really feels like an apocalypse going on around you, Split Second pales in comparison. MS:A is so much more organic, many more details, CONSTANTLY throwing stuff and you and if it's just office chair which sticks to your hood and hinders your sight till you loose it when you jump from one skyscraper roof to the next one.

I spent most of my racing time with photomode, however. :( It's just...you are playing this game and you want constantly hit start to make a photo of this awesome stuff happening around you...

If you can´t find it in the UK, try importing it. I think they have started to sell it here in Denmark.

Photo mode has always been a great feature of MS games.

The physics in the demo felt a bit off, one small graze along the wall and it could cause you to spin out. I'm sure I'll get used to it

There's really no story in the cutscenes. They're only there to pump up the Festival atmosphere which is done by far the best in any Motorstorm yet. You really feel like you belong to a group of crazies who hijacked an aircraft carrier and are sailing around the world looking for thrills.

The only thing I don't like about this game are the long loads (although it may be because I have a promo version, which are prone to long loads/bad printing). Everything else is top notch. I can't believe it has a 78% meta. This is THE Motorstorm game of generation. I really hope Evo will continue improving this game. It's an arcade racer masterpiece.

How did you get the promo version?

This is not a good way to start out your tenure here on NeoGAF. I think you should change your...mindset? Or there's always another popular forum you can visit that I think you'd enjoy!

On topic: Is the Gamestop code functioning yet? I've tried a few times, and each time it's not valid. :\

I'm associated with a gaming website which has access to promo versions for reviewing purposes.

Lucky you ;) I'm guessing that your website will give Motorstorm a high review based on your impressions. Where can I check out the review?

Damn, May 6th? I sure am glad I got my copy... The game is being sold in Sweden right now, but I'm not sure if that's just the first shipment and there's gonna be a delay until the next one, or if they have just decided to not delay it here.

You could always import from Australia its out here, try Dungeon Crawl. Played it for several hours last night and while the presentation is extremely lame (wait till you hear the Aussie accent on a certain female character) the racing in the game is awesome. Once I stopped expecting what I got in the last two games on the PS3 (the feel of certain vehicles, non linear progression and the soundtrack by DJ Shadow that I think is refreshing in Apocalypse) I started to really enjoy it.

The new controls allow for faster reactions (which are needed to dodge incoming debris and sudden cracks/explosions) and work really well. Running over people is outright hilarious and the nature of the races has an unpredictable element to it which for now is fresh, hopefully the harder difficulties don't make this aspect frustrating.

The online is where its at, with everyone at the same disadvantage when the track changes occur it makes for some interesting and hilarious racing. Theres still always a few racers who seem to have perfected the tracks already and will always come first by a long shot but its nothing practice can't get around (hopefully). The betting system is really cool as you can gamble by choosing a rival you think you can beat and win/lose your experience points and I think this adds to the fun chasing that opponent with the rival graphic over their vehicle.

So far I have found it really fun. I can understand criticisms of the presentation but I by no means can see how anyone can label this game a failure. Its fun, looks awesome, is fun to play and sounds heavy.

Ugh. After having my copy sent by Gameplay.co.uk on Tuesday there is still no sign of it. On top of that they have charged my credit card. I'd normally put it down to Royal Mail being incompetent but it appears someone who was sent the game hasn't received it either.

Any word on whether Sony is forcing a recall on the game within the UK?

Online is real fun, though I didn't understand the betting system at this point. How exactly does it work? How do I change the amount of chips I bet etc.?

Picked up the game in Australia. Really great fun. The first time a road collapsed on me, changing the path, it blew my mind. The way the action taking place in the game is part of the storytelling feels really natural.

I think the graphics aren't as lush as Pacific Rift, but it is forgivable with so much going on.

Yet to try MP. PSN ID is StackboyRoyale if anyone wants to race.

Are you using the hood cam? I think the graphics are even better than PR. The improvements are minor, but they are there. Higher resolution, better shadows, better anti aliasing.

Whatever. Done for the evening. Made myself an iconic MS1 buggy and tried to win the first hardcore event...no chance. Yet. Had a big smile on my face the whole evening. Great fun so far.

Crap, hype is getting to me. Just bought a new 3D capable Panny plasma, and have been shrugging off the 3D capability. Just the mere fact my TV can do it makes me at the very least curious, coupled with the fact I love me some Motorstorm.

Any recommendations from those that do have them? Cheap versus expensive matter?

Haha, just saw the end credits. The "thanks" from various people on the dev team are displayed there, under their names. I didn't catch them all, but here are a few gems:

"meh"
"Can I go skydiving now or are we going to make another one of these games?"
"I'm off for cake and grief counseling"
"So anything I write here will end up in the credits?"

Well done!

All in all, I though the campaign (Festival) was a bit too short, but I still prefer that to what was in PR. I just couldn't get through that one. And I've still got stuff to do in this one. Haven't won every race yet, and there are MS cards to find. Plus, I've only just got started playing online.

Nah, behind the car view is the air that I breathe.

Huge mistake. The hood cam increases the immersion and intensity tenfold.

I put it in our demo console at work and BAM! 201 MB update. Normally I don't care about stuff like this, but such a big one on release and given the controversy surrounding the game all of a sudden, I'm not sure I wanna patch it at home.

I am so beyond disappointed in the industry in general at the reviews of PS3 exclusives. Hype has built itself in and around people now, to the point it blinds them to anything that is reasonable and successful on its own terms. This has led people to outright lie for the benefit of money and being well read. Well, fuck you people. Fuck yourselves hard and bleed to death. This game rocks.

Oh boy...

It's in stock everywhere here in Sweden.
The local stores charge 60€ though, so i will either order it or wait for a small price drop.
I am really excited to play this online.
