Motorstorm Apocalypse Review thread

Looked kinda blurry to me, maybe because I was expecting real 1080p. :P

then why don't you force 720p then.. :p

game looks amazing... Jet you asked for 1080p and you get something close, just because its not 60fps doesn't mean you gotta hate. Also Motorstorm demos always look far worse than their final versions.

first 1080p MLAA game huh?

I thought it would be impossible because even Under Siege settled for 1080p no AA...where as they had 720p MLAA.

I wonder why MLB The Show didn't use MLAA. I tried to ask if they were on the forums but my question was never answered.

I have to believe they tried, but maybe it didn't work out well.

That was unbelievable. I'm totally buying this damn game now. :D

Anyone try out the GT wheel or any wheels with this game? Does it work?

i got a G27, but this isn't really a wheel game...

PR demo did'nt look as good as the final version AT ALL, i remember the difference was pretty glaring

This is correct. The first demo (of the track with the huge dropoffs) was vastly inferior to the version of the track in the final version. I believe it was eventually re-released though, so it's probably not possible to download the original demo.

No, it's not correct. It looks exactly the same in the final build. I went there, I checked it. I proved it back then. Just check the MS2 thread.

Both demos are still available as well. Also - why would you think some developer would be so stupid to release a demo which is "vastly inferior" to the final version? To scare of customers? Sorry, but things like that don't happen.

People underestimate just how much of an impact the lighting has in the MotorStorm games. The first MS2 demo looked worse simply because the time of day was different (and ugly). I bet it's the same reason why some find the MS3 demo to be pretty ugly; aside from the aesthetical differences, the lighting is just overly bright and flat, which makes the game look so-so. Compare that with the above video of the coastline level, which looks incredible.

I'm sure I've seen pictures of the differences between the first Pacific Rift demo and the final game. In fact I'm positive of it.

Yup, this one:

It's bullshit. It's made up. Some guy made it up because he was disapointed with the demo or whatever. That doesn't change the fact that the final version of the track looks exactly like the "80% quore build".

Nah, it was a comparison between an older build and the demo. The older build looked better. Final build ended up looking like the demo.

No. As bee pointed out, itÄs a question of lighting and daytime.

I tried the specific time trick, but its not working :/

anyway, the lighting looks drastically better. I believe both are during the same time setting. if you go further along the video when they are climbing the hill after the huge jump, the shadows are facing the same direction.

You are wrong. One is morning, the other is midday or something like that. I compared it, don't need some YT video for that.

I'll have to try out both again, during the same time setting...

but I'll say one thing though, MS PR's midday setting didn't look as good as Motorstorm 1's midday setting....as far as lighting. I always played PR in either morning or evening because of that. So like you said above, that might be the case between the demo and final version.

either way about to check it out.

I can't believe people still think a company would release a demo that they KNOW looks shittier and weaker than the actual build. This is a fanboy argument, and isn't true 99% of the time. That's the truth.

it's not uncommon for a demo to be based off a much older build than the final version.

those two tracks look ACE though :)

Every Motorstorm demo in existence has tasted like poop. this is truth.

well here is your 1%.

one of Sony's Biggest games last year...and probably the best looking one.

and I believe the demo didn't even have MLAA, compared to the final version.

I always wonder, since developers these days go to higher res because of the 3D, and even have 3D modes that run on the half the resolution or something ( Killzone 3?) sometimes, why they don't put a mode with half of the resolution and double the framerate ( 60fps), I mean many racing fans will go for better framerate over higher resolution if it's available.

yeah someone asked a couple of days ago, why MS Apocalypse didn't have a 720p/60fps mode.....would be cool if they could patch something in. But I think they just don't want to have different driving feel on the same disc...like how WipEout HD plays at 30fps in splitscreen mode, and alot of people complained about that.

add to that, how would that affect online play, would it break it? would someone have an advantage?

well it's possible that their simulations and such are based on 30 fps. just because they can render two frames of the same scene instead of one, doesn't mean that they can render frames twice as often, if that makes sense.

that's probably why in this case they went with more resolution instead of more framerate. i presume they have a reason anyway. remember a game isn't just about the graphical effects.

I agree I thought it was coming out this week in the US. :/

But then there's the Earthquake which could have delayed it anyways.

Uh oh...

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, the publisher behind the game in the territory, has announced that it has delayed the game there. Sony had already confirmed after the devastating earthquake in Christchurch last month that the game's release in New Zealand was being delayed.

It is not yet clear if this delay will now be mirrored in other territories. Speaking to GameSpot UK this morning, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe said, "The game's release is under discussion at the moment. We'll get back to you when we know more." Sony Computer Entertainment America is currently slated to release the game in its territory on Tuesday April 12.

I see no reason why it should be delayed in Europe, tbh. And with only 5 days to go, surely it's already in shops waiting to be put on display?

Heh, my copy of Motorstorm Apocalypse was already sent out to me. Should have it tomorrow or wednesday. I hope it's not delayed because I'll have nobody to play with online. D:

loved that other level.
What i like about the graphics is that the jaggies are much less aparent. Is this because of better anti aliassing or because of the resolution (or both)?

Might even buy it.... although i haven't finished pacific rift..

No shame in that, these games are an absolute BITCH to finish. I have all three and I always give up the campaign long before the end.

Does anybody know if any other levels are more freeform like in MS2? I LOVE that game...

I hate the fact that there don't seem to be any vehicle shortcuts in the demo, or many shortcuts in general.

After reading this I'm convinced it won't be as good as Pacific Rift.
Aside from the fact that the urban city setting doesn't quite interest me as much as crazy lava tracks, jungle tracks etc.. the racing just didn't feel quite as good and the explosions of shit just confused me as to where to go.

And Split/Second is probably better as far as destruction/urban theme goes.

This is my biggest gripe with the demo. It doesn't help that the vehicles feel like driving through mud like MS2.

I hope to Christ the cutscenes are skippable. I don't want to waste a single second with that tripe. Why Evolution chose to integrate such a useless feature into their game is beyond me.
